I predict this will be awful. Depp has repeated the same performance over and over for all his tent pole films for a while now. He may be as creatively bankrupt as this new HP series seems.

Why wouldn't they just use
the guy they already showed in Deathly Hallows
for the character y'all are talking about?

You have ABC Family? Or I guess it's Freeform now.

Seriously, feels like every other weekend is "Harry Potter Weekend" :lol

The post contains speculation based upon alleged leaked SPOILERS

I think I figured it out:

Depp is Grindlewald, but so is Colin Farrell. The character Farrell is playing is simply Grindlewald disguised via Polyjuice and Depp is his real form.

Bit of a bummer though, as
I would have loved to see Colin Farrell as a reoccurring villain/Grindlewald in the films.

Lol they could have easily kept this as a nice surprise for people.

I worked on some of the movie so knew a while back, but it would have been nice people going in cold and have him appear.

I think it may be a way to get word/speculation out there that Grindelwald is in the movie (assuming that is who he's playing).. I know the movie is tracking a bit lower than expectations, and they're probably trying to compel more Potter fans to be interested.

I thought Grindlewald would be using polyjuice, this all makes sense

I hope they stick mostly to America, I doubt they could fully exhaust the possibilities of magical America in one movie.

Yeah, but when they revealed the name of America's school, they also revealed the school in Japan and one in Africa so the movies may be a bit globetrotting.

According to rumors
that's Colin Farrell's character

Well considering this picture already exists of him prior to FBaWtFT...

I mean, fair if you don't want Depp, but that's some pretty bad logic. By that metric, Downey should have stayed far away from Iron Man.

Downey had Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Zodiac, both within three years prior. Depp's best role since the first Pirates was voicing Rango. Downey was largely improving from where he was at, Depp on the other hand has been moving down for the better part of a decade and a half.

So Fantastic Beasts is a prequel to Harry Potter that stars some of the main characters from the original franchise? Is its story related at all to the one of the original franchise?

Also, should I care about this if I didn't much care for Harry Potter? I saw the movies and thought they were ok.

Considering the nature of his recent troubles and the kind of audience the movie is bringing, i'm surprised they signed him up.

I was super hoping that was going to be the case from the trailers but it seems like Grindelwald is already established in Europe.

Edit:

So Depp is Grindelwald? Godfuckingdamnit. Farrell would have been so much better for the role.

If the whole
Depp is Grindelwald
then they royally fucked up with the script/movie. That's something Potter fans having been dying to see and this movie looks completely unrelated to that. Of course people wouldn't be interested in something that looks like a spinoff at best.

How did they royally fucked up if
Grindelwald
is going to be a heavy presence in the franchise?

Considering nobody seems interested in this movie, somebody fucked up. Maybe they should have retitled it or shifted the marketing approach.

People are interested tho. Early tracking is 75M to 86M before reviews even hit.

But there is a lot of interest. It just happens to fall between Doctor Strange and Rogue One

Was getting caught part of your plan?

That's funny because it's happened before.

Uh, what?

I knew it was tracking low compared to the HP movies but I thought it had dipped further based off this post:

Seems like it's doing fine enough I guess. Kinda surprised as I've seen little buzz for the movie.

There's been a good number of trailers... but yeah it's not Potter level. Then again nothing was really going to be.

It can do well without the world imploding in on itself from hype :p

No fucking thank you. Depp has been awful for years, and I can't support a wife beater. My hype for these movies just plummeted. What is WB thinking? What is Rowling thinking?

Is this in the time where Dumbledore fought Grindelwald? Will we actually get to see the fight? Would be awesome!
