Bungie details Halo 2 Live playlist changes

Here's a little glimpse of what's coming (subject to change)-

All team slayer playlist - You wanted it.You've got it. All team slayer, all the time. (perhaps this week will be a good time to get your last great games of CTF in as it seems the vast majority of players will abandon these objective games once and for all when given the chance. -sniff- ) The existing Tam Skirmish playlist will be only objective games - primarily CTF and Assault with a small sprinkling of Team Ball, Team King and Territories.

Unranked FFA playlist - play Slayer and a few other Rumble Pit games with guests and parties of up to 8. Let the good times roll.

Major Clan Match- party size limit changed from minimum 5 to max 8. Also, the team imbalance has been changed to one from two. (so no more 6 vs. 8 games)
Big Team Battle - we've upped the max party size to a full 8.

Variety - we've gone through and adjusted the weighting and offerings in every playlist to make sure more maps and more gametypes get some loving. Foundation has also been added to the playlists where it makes sense.

Should make some people happy. I'm not on Live yet, but I've seen requests for all of that stuff, especially Team Slayer.

They need to take out the Colossus from the Rumble Pit playlist. EVERY TIME that map comes up everyone starts swearing and moaning about how crap it is.

Sweet. I'm glad Foundation has been added to the Matchmaking list. Hopefully, I'll get matched to a Juggernaut game now, with the newly weighted playlists.

I can only play with a friend, on his Xbox, using a separate Live account. It really has kinda sucked. We can't play any Slayer, or any games where we're not on the same team. Our only options are Big Team and Team Skirmish.....where 90% of the time you are stuck playing CTF, and you never get to play any of the smaller maps. Once in a blue moon you'll get a Team Slayer or Territories game or something. It's just lame.

I hope they hurry up and implement these changes, because I'm tired of the same maps and gametypes over and over. I hope that the unranked Free-For-All area becomes popular quickly, because it's my only opportunity to play online Slayer.

I'll still be playing the objective games. It's the weird gametypes like territories and teamball that I love...

They should make it so that whenever there's a major clan match and one clan has more than the other, they have the option to select some people to not play in the match, yet still be able to watch the action minus voice comm. support. That would rock.

More Shotguns! They need a shotguns and swords variant that's standard. No weapons on map, start with a shotty, plasma sword, no motion detector and two plasma nades. Slayer to 50 or even 100 in a team game with these rules is just awesome! Try it with your system link group!

I think the new playlist should ban swordball from , ever, and I mean EVVVVVVVVVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR, being a viable option again.

If you create oddball games with energy swords only you suck.

Seriously, Colossus rocks. The only maps in Halo I hate are in Halo 1, and even then, there's a couple of maps in Halo 1 I would like to see downloadable in Halo 2 (Hang 'Em High comes to mind).

you should consider xbconnect. there's tons of players online and there's no need for this matchup bs. seems to work pretty good for me. i can play with my cousin who lives a couple hours away without any lag.

hyp.

Colossus sucks as a Rumble Pit map. The weapon balance tilts towards the side with the grav jump and shotgun. The overshield is there also. So most of the action is over there and thus dropped weapons and such as well. So if you repeatedly respawn on the other side of the map you're at a disadvantage.

Grav Lift and Overshield are at opposite sides of the map. There are shotguns and battle rifles for sniping on the sides.

I'm pretty happy that they are throwing in the unranked skirmish playlist. It's a perfect middle ground between the random ranked games and the ones you customize but have to pull people into youself. Now if none of my friends are online, I can jump into a slayer game and just have fun, not worrying about the rankings.

I hope they keep that - I can see myself playing all three ways: Ranked games, with arranged parties and unranked Live skirmishes. Good job, Bungie.

I love Colossus. What's your beef with it? It's an incredible CTF map.

Not if you can procure the Beam Rifle (that maps most important weapon) and get away from the messy area and then just snipe guys out of lift from either base side. Beam Rifle is the sword of Colossus.

Though you do make a good point about the spawning system. I love Colossus, but maybe it is better suited for team play.

In a way it's kinda sad that so many people will be pulled off the objective type games. Don't want to force them to play something they don't like.. but those games combine the best of killing and tactics combined.

That's fine for the casuals. Tournaments are never just team slayer games. I think subtly that's what Bungie is targeting ultimately, to make Halo 2 not only a game for casuals but a game that will be in competition at MLG/CPL/AGP, et cetera. And those competitions will never just be all team slayer matches.

Don't worry, the Slayer/Team Slayer fad will be over in a couple months and most games will be objective games then. It happens with almost every online FPS release: Deathmatch is the most popular mode but once people realize how limited it is they move onto the objective game modes.

I will be all over the team slayer! I love team slayer. I won't quit objective games though. I am going to start not playing H2 when there is lag though, lag = bad. Me and a friend were playing some games from my house last night, 2 xboxs and it was lagging real bad, usually its fine, but my flatmate was bittorrenting some stuff. Bittorent = death for xbox live.

Seriously the playlist had to change, If I see one more rapid assault on burial mounds ARRGGHHH.

*Get warthog drive to base, explode. wait for bomb to reset, grab, walk, die, round over*

Oh and collossus is actually quite good for playing land grab on. there is 5 different territories.

If you're sick of CTF you don't belong playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live.

I honestly wish they weren't addedin team slayer. It's a pretty boring mode overall. It's just slayer with a stipulation of "don't shoot these guys, shoot these guys." The teamwork aspect is sorta fun, but it's much better in CTF and Assault.

You should have been playing Tribes when you were younger. You'd appreciate CTF more.

About fucking time. God in heaven Colossus sucks for Rumble Pit.

+1,000,000 for having a ranked Team Slayer mode. That's me favorite.

Goddamnit they'd better add Coagulation and Beaver Creek to regular map rotation; I've YET to see any of those maps in Matchmaking.

I just hope these changes will mean my clan won't play 15 out of 16 games on fucking ZANZIBAR each night. We're sick of that map like you don't even know. I think total games played on Beaver Creek might be like, 4 at this point.

My vote for future downloadable maps is Sidewinder. Hang em High is the runner-up.

I had a great time today with Head To Head. That's something you just can't get reliable in PC first person shooters. Having the ability to jump right into that here and have opponents available all the time is awesome.

I saw Ramirez is rank 12 or so. I don't know if you know this, but you and I played (I think) NHL 2K5 a few months ago in a random matchup and we ended up on each others' friends list. I didn't even know you were a GAFer at the time!

Coag shows up in Big Team Battle games all the time for Assault. Haven't seen Beaver Creek in there, though.

When's this update supposed to happen, anyway?

im still gonna play the objective games with my friends because they are a lot of fun, the most classic matches always seem to be CTF matches. but team slayer is just so much mindless fun that i will probably play that more than the objective games.

I'll pretty much just switch between the two once I burn out on one. Play team slayer till start doing badly then switch to team skirmish.

There better be some Classic CTF on Coagulation in this playlist update *shakes fist in the air*
