Burnout 3 Xbox whining (aka why gamefaqs sucks)

http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=919651&topic=15965743

what the hell are these people whining about?

No glowing sparks on Xbox!?!?
"I personally think it's a huge blow to X-box users because I feel the glowing sparks adds a lot of meat to the crashes. Looking at the latest widescreen videos posted on IGN, you get a real sense of emptiness and even dullness when watching the X-box movies compared to the PS2."

(a) is this even true and (b) do people really obsess about the minutia of games until all the life and fun is sucked out of them? I guess this is what I get for going to a gamefaqs message board.

THREAD OVER. This man has single handedly closed the discussion.

You proved the Xbox version actually looks BETTER in this picture...

Check it out, on the PS2 pictures, which I'm guessing are the bottom two, sparks are coming out of the trunk. On the bottom right there is a spark almost coming from the licence plate.

Now, on the Xbox version the sparks fly inbetween the car and the wall, not through the car. It's better. You're wrong. The "brighter" sparks was just to cover the fact the PS2 couldn't handle them the way the Xbox can.
This is so silly.

Holy shit this is such a dumb argument I can't believe it wasn't started here.

Wow. People will complain about anything these days. Really now... when it all comes down to it, I'd rather have custom soundtracks than brighter glow.

Well, the PS2 sparks do have a more stylized look in this picture:

You're right. At least in those stills, the PS2 sparks look brighter and more elongated, almost like speedlines. The sparks in the Xbox version, on the other hand, look more like somebody threw clumps of straw out the window. And yes, a little visual touch like that really can change the 'feel' of a game for me.

god

I know most of gfaqs are like mid teenagers makes me wonder wtf they woulda done had they had a genesis or snes (since they are prolly to young to remember that era)

Your talking of visual touches and the PS2 in the same sentence?

Damn right I am. :p

While the Xbox has a clear edge when it comes to geometry and textures, there are some visual effects that the PS2 just seems to handle better, like light trails and other luminous effects. Most of the time, it's not an issue, but occasionally you have a multiplatform title that uses those effects heavily as part of its 'look'. NFS: U is a good example--I bought the Xbox version, but felt that the neon-and-rain-slicked streets effects were bolder and better-looking on the PS2, which was a little disappointing. And now with BO3, I'm stuck trying to decide between getting the version with the cooler-looking vfx, or the one that lets me use custom soundtracks. Having the version of the game that runs on the most powerful hardware automatically be the best one to buy would make things a lot easier, but life never seems to be that simple.

I don't understand. The PS2 version has apparently brighter sparks and your're making the leap that it has "cooler-looking vfx". As for NFSU, the Xbox version IMO was the better looking version. If you have an Xbox and an oppurtunity for custom tracks and assuming you are of sane mind and body, how can you not get the version which supports custom sound tracks?

I like the big sparks, it gives a more arcadey feeling to the game.

I find it hard to pay attention to the sparks as I'm being slammed against a wall at 180 mph, all while having Ghostface's "Daytona 500" pumping out of the stereo.

In a previous thread I said that BO3 and BO2 were similar in terms to speed, but that is no longer the case. As soon as you get up into the faster sports cars and into the super series vehicles, it becomes difficult to disttinguish traffic from landscape.

I've already put 6 hours of game time into it, and I'm barely a third of the way thru the game.

I cannot believe that some of you people are actually continuing this stupid argument..... wait a minute... yes I can.

The sparks are the 'cooler-looking vfx' I'm referring to. I just prefer the more luminous look of them in the PS2 version, and the more elongated, 'streaky' look to them adds to the impression of speed. The PS2 hardware also seems to handle effects like motion blur a little better in general. I'm not saying that the cumulative effect is huge, but it's something that I notice.

I felt that the PS2 had the better vfx--the neon visuals looked a little less vibrant on the Xbox, and the wet pavement effect didn't come off looking quite as good--but the framerate seemed to hiccup at certain spots on the PS2, while it remained more or less solid on the Xbox. I accepted the slight visual hit (IMO) in exchange for the more smooth 'feel', but I wish I could've had both.

I'll probably end up getting the Xbox version for the custom soundtracks, if for no other reason than that I really don't care for much of the default music. :p Though as with Underground, I'll probably also end up feeling ever-so-vaguely dissatisfied that the version I bought wasn't the best in every respect. *shrug*

Hmmm? That's actually where the system shines...

Still, I'm more curious to know whether the motion blur effect has remained the same on XBOX.

You know what else is getting old? People who think it's clever to point out how stupid it is to complain that a thread is stupid. Making fun of people who make fun of people for continuing stupid arguments they complain are stupid is the new hotness. :)

Criterion developer 1: "shit, I didn't know we've programmed sparks into this game, who da hell put sparks in it?"
bob: "err, it was me. i was drunk that night."

stop arguing about stupid sparks

the more important question is: why doesn't force feedback (controller) work in the Xbox version???

Wait a second. So the PS2 version doesn't support widescreen or did ign just not even bother?

It supports 480p and 16:9 mode.

The sparks argument is kinda funny, but it's the kinda thing I'm sure the devs were hoping nobody would notice. :P The fact is, they ARE different on XBOX. I believe the special effects from crashes and such were partially designed by some former ILM guys...so you KNOW they were trying to put effort into making them look cool. If someone is bothered by that, what's the big deal? It isn't as if this is the first time this has happened...

yeah i like the ps2 sparks cos of the style. I think they didnt spend as much time on the xbox version probably. Xbox has superior hardware however so i guess it was an easier job.
