Burnout 3 Xbox whining (aka why gamefaqs sucks)

so you coming into this thread to comment about the stupidity of said thread... i mean, where do you fit in?

If you don't see the irony of this thread being created by folks who were initially making fun of the INITIAL thread in Gamefaqs... then Doom on you.

If the intended effect was to make them look like Actual sparks, I personally think XBox ones look better/closer to that.

If the intended effect was to make them look like... well... 'something' else... then PS2 clearly wins :P

Given the over the top everything else in BO3, I am inclined to believe they intended the latter. The game certainly isn't trying to win any points for visual realism from what I've seen to date. ;)

That aside, there's some possibility of a technical explanation too, but I don't want to add fuel to the fire. :P

if you want to be that way, fine: I put a Hex(en) on you.

besides, there's way too much irony these days. sincerity is the new irony.

Just for reference, the same "issue" occurred with SSX3. PS2 version had some (very nice) glow effects that the Xbox ver. didn't.

The programmers suck. End of story.

Now, if I did the game, I would have glowing sparks in all versions. But that's just me, y'know, the awesome programmer I am. Criterion needs me.

wtf, I went into #ps2 on efnet and this is the topic of the channel

* Now talking in #ps2
* Topic is 'surge msg semo asap !!!|Burnout 3 PS2 <- BETTER SPARKS THAN ON XBOX!!!'

wtf????

At a certain point you need to find things to bitch and whine about...they looked so hard for something to complain about that they forgot how stupid the arguement was.

I don't think it's such a stupid argument, you're gonna see those sparks a lot during the game and if the whole visual flair of the game is important to you I can see why it could bother you to have the 'bad sparks' on the xbox version.

I actually expected this to happen, I saw the videos of the PS2 version and I thought "I doubt if those particle effects will make the transition to the XBox version nicely" because somehow the PS2 seems to be better at this in general (same thing happened with the rain particles in the MGS2 xbox port, they were simplified as well).

Everybody and his granny know that PS2 outshines the other systems when processing tons of polygons. And actually a particle is just a quad (two polys) with a texture that is oriented to the screen...
Anyways I don't think the XBOX is doing less particles but doing different ones...And to discuss if XBOX sucks at doing particles is kinda stupid (not talking about your post but some other replies) since Wreckless is just an example where it happens the opposite (nice glowing sparks for XBOX and horrendous ones for GC/PS2).

hmmm... could this be a pattern emerging?

could it be... could it be... native hardware at work?

That's not quite true - particle can literally be anything - the screen oriented quads are just one example. Different kind of particles work for different effects - sparks are definately not screenspace quads.

That said - the difference in BO3 doesn't look to be in the particles at all.
It's the glow filter (which is a postrender effect) that is stronger on PS2 (or perhaps absent for sparks in XBox version).

Well there was already a discussion on how music in SF sounded more true to the arcade on the Genny, so there's nothing stopping you from bringing up some unresolved issues from the 16-bit era. :P Actually, there could be something stopping you (hint: a banstick). :P

EWJ2 Saturn > * multiplied by #
But they were debating EWJ1! Our points stand in beautiful harmony though - the Sega CD ver of Earthworm Jim and Saturn iteration of Earthworm Jim 2 are must-haves for EWJ enthusiasts.

in the videos of burnout 3 xbox, the sparks look closer to the ps2 version. still not as full but definately better than those pics.

aint noboby talking about the los angeles sparks.

Wow. This is great news. :D

As a mod over at Operation Sports, I thought it was just sports gamers that had devolved into hypercritical nitpicking nutjobs. Now I see an argument that makes "His sock color is teh wrong!!!" look perfectly normal.

I hear that the sparks glow more if you take an entire bottle of asprin before playing.

HA HA GOOD SIRS I ALMOST TOOK YOUR ADVICE UNTILS I SEES THIS!

Serious side effects with aspirin include:
black, tarry stools

stomach pain
unusual bleeding or bruising, red or purple spots on the skin
vomiting up blood, or what looks like coffee grounds

Oh well, it's for the sparks! ASPRIN AHOY!

In one of IGN's videos (first one on the first page) it has a Tupac song playing in the background. WHY WAS IT REMOVED? That song was perfect for the game.
