Button Mashers

Does anybody else hate, absolutely HATE, going into an arcade and having to deal with button mashers? I haven't played Soul Caliber 2 in a long time, and the one weak spot to this game is that it's almost as if it favors button mashers in certain fights as opposed to people who know the controls.

I'll admit it took me a round to get the controls back for my person, but the point I'm making here is that I can't stand these assholes that just jump onto a Soul Caliber game next to you, pick Nightmare and just start slamming the same 3 buttons over and over. Take the time to learn the damn game and make it fun! I only really see it on fighting games, too. Man does that piss me off. Any other arcade goers have things that a lot of people do that piss you off?

*shrugs* Button Mashers NEVER win at tournament level period. They aren't very hard to deal with, either- if they button mash in Soul Cal 2 and don't know what they're doing, some good characters to pick are Astaroth / Ivy and play keep away. 236 a is great for Asta since the first turn is unblockable (i think. cause it grabs... or was that 214 a? x_x) and Ivy can repeatedly spam some of her longer range'd moves. Of course, much of this goes bye-bye once you find someone in the arcade who is actually good :lol .

Game hogging. There are no rules for people when it comes to playing a game over and over. Etiquette dictates that if you die, game over. If you are playing against someone, and you lose, game over. But there are those a-holes who have to stack up their quarters and play thorugh the entire stack before giving up the game. The 'I was here first' mentality sucks.

One cardinal sin of arcade gaming, to me, is eating or drinking whilst playing. You don't prop your soda up on your X-box at home, do you? That's just asking for a mess. I hate grubby arcades.

Children. Children bug the shit out of me in arcades, especially the ones that couldn't possibly reach the controls without the help of a box. All they do is weave through the legs of older gamers in a hyper, strung-out, high-pitched gale of annoyance.

Got button mashers? Get this:

Positioning them correctly in the first round can score you a 2 hit, 5 second RO. Button masher problem solved, (have myself done this).

I've got friends that destroy people almost as fast with Ivy; it's like a CS-fest.

Man, I love Button Mashing; especially when I beat some guy who spent hours of his life trying to learn how to play the game. I remember this one guy wanted to fight me because I kicked his ass on Street Fighter 3, by just using Hugo's butt stomp. :lol

I guess it's sort of obnoxious, but mostly I just find them boring. In Tekken 5 it's an easy 1000 gold so I don't mind them at all.

Yeah, you're a true hero.

On the subject of SC2, I'd disagree that the game favors mashers. If you are the kinda player who tries to sidestep everything, and they are the kind of masher who spams the A button (horizontal atack) then you are going to get hit for counter damage a lot.

I once had a problem with mashers in SC2, but a friend learned me off of trying to sidestep everything and it hasn't been a problem since. In this game, stay just outside range and find the opening. If they are using a range character, get a quick character in there to guard impact and throw their ass.

Now, DOA, that's a game that favors mashers. They can get annoying in SF too, but mashing isn't going to get them out of a combo.

Astaroth is far tougher on masher, or any noobs for that matter. The guy has awesome range, power, and good speed. Hitting A+B at the start of the round nails them with a very quick knockdown move.

This asshole just doesn't have to work!

Exactly. AB, 8WR3K off they go...(that's just the Soul Edge on the side of the pic).

I've tried Voldo, but I end up playing him boringly. Too much WS A and 22B for my taste.

Why do people complain about button mashers? Just kill them and be done with it. I'm having a hard time thinking of a game where random button presses can dominate against a skilled player.

I button mash, but the cool rhythm of a character like Raphael makes the moves varied and consistent anyway.
