This is starting to worry me because I don't know of a way that can be verified here. For instance, what if someone is claiming to be a member of Cheap Ass Gamer that has a lot of good feedback on that site, but they aren't that person? Or the eBay account stuff? I am not stating that anyone here has done this, as I have no reports of such a thing occurring, and I am also sure that the far and away vast majority of the posters here are more than legitimate. But we now have hundreds of people on that feedback list, and as it grows this potential also increases.
My only real proposal for this issue is for people to stop referencing feedback they've received elsewhere. I understand that some of you may not like this change as you've built up quite a reputation on other sites, and you're looking to get in on this site's action as well. What I'd like from you guys is to know whether or not you like this idea, if you have an alternative proposal, or something else.
Crisis said:2: The NeoGAF Plus and Gold programs. When I started those programs, things in this thread were moving a little slowly. I am amazed at how fast some of these sellers have made the list. They're all great sellers to be sure. But if you go and look at the list now, you can see blue in a lot of places and more than a few Gold members. I created this as a way to highlight really good sellers/traders/buyers, and I think it's been very successful in that respect. But the issue I'm seeing now is twofold. The first is that it's no longer as unique as it was when I started it. The second is that it's somewhat hard to spotlight these members, as was the original intention, when there's so many names on the list. Nobody really browses that list to see who the best sellers or buyers are. They just look at it to see if they have positive feedback or if there's been issues with that buyer.
So here are my proposed solutions for this particular issue. I plan to wait longer to add people to the NeoGAF Gold program from here on out. Members already in the Gold program stay in the Gold program. Members that would otherwise be really close to Gold status are "grandfathered" in for now. It seems cruel to have been so close and to have it taken away. For the rest of us, I'll add us on a less frequent basis.
My solution for the Plus/Gold program exposure has two parts. The first of which is that I plan to divide up the list as it is now. All feedback will remain intact for all users. There are basically three "tiers" right now, so I figure that is how many we could use for this program. We'll have one table for Gold members at the top, a second table for Plus members in the middle, and the big list of people that have yet to reach either status beneath those two on the User-Submitted Feedback List. The second part is to create two identical lists in the first post of this thread to more properly highlight Gold and Plus users. Just like the first one, I'm really open to suggestions, comments, or criticisms on these ideas.

As far as any input or feedback goes...personally I use the NeoGAF Gold/Plus lists (and the feedback in general) as a way to identify the bad users
Thanks for all the hard work Crisis!

Agreed. I've always found it weird when people would much rather sell through eBay and take a loss after eBay + paypal fees rather than cutting out the middle man and selling here directly.g35twinturbo said:I agree with this, we come here to do business with each other.
Alot of people come here due to not wanting to deal with eBay or anything else.

I'm pretty sure I've down business with him and others can vouch for him also.
Crisis said:Thanks for the kind words. But that's not how Gold status works. I would not like to receive preferential treatment. If and when the time comes, I'd just like to not have to induct myself into Plus.

People listing more than 10+ items, whether that list changes or not its just so many items listed that you eventually learn to scroll past them without really searching if they have something new each time on each page.
I can see both sides of the argument. While I wouldn't want to chase away people who sell large amounts of stuff (I quite like being able to strike deals buying multiple titles, and that's only going to happen when someone has a selection), there are definitely a handful of culprits who abuse the thread by rehashing the same post every page for months on end. You can include me among the people becoming irritated with sellers like xaosslug, not because he has large posts with lots of items, but because he makes a point of hogging the top spot on every page with the same stuff he's already listed dozens of times. That's just bad form. Ideally this is the sort of thing people can self regulate, but every once in a while there's someone (who may even be a valuable regular) that pushes things a bit too far. It's not that hard to simply link to an older post, only post every few pages, or only re-list when there's an update. Basically, use common sense.KoreanBarbecue said:No offense, but I've put up big lists of stuff, and I'm hardly what you would call a "professional vendor." Word. Maybe plus could remain for every 10 transactions but stack (so people could +, ++, +++, etc.) until they're +5, which would be gold? This way you retain the old milestones, still show a clear progression, and only award gold status to prolific members. I don't know, I'm sure people will reach a consensus that makes sense.Crisis said:I thought about adding another tier of B/S/T'er, platinum or whatever, but at some point, it's going to start getting confusing with different requirements and keeping track of all of that. I'd rather cap it at where it is now and simply raise the requirements just a bit. For right now, at least. And I really don't intend to reset the list each year. The idea behind the document is to have a record of each seller's history and feedback throughout the community and threads, as we have to do a new one each year now. It'd be nice to have a continuous feedback system as well, that way we can always have a reference. But outside of that, I really like the idea of the perks and I'm going to try to think of ways to incorporate that kind of idea into the list.
You know, that sounds good on the surface, but I have had at least one very positive transaction with FrostuTheNinja who linked to his very reasonably priced ebay store and gave shipping discounts for multiple items. I can definitely understand why people are leery of new posters who cite feedback from elsewhere, but there are times when we'd be missing out by flat out prohibiting linking to stuff like half.com stores.Crisis said:Okay, guys. I understand that I didn't post this all that long ago, but it seems like there's near-unanimous support for prohibiting referencing feedback from other forums or sites, as well as prohibiting listing eBay auctions or Amazon storefronts, etc. I'll gladly add something to the documents and the OP of this thread about that, but as you all know, I am not a mod. That makes enforcing this kind of thing fairly tricky outside of using the list somehow to penalize people that do this. Any suggestions on what I could do for people who do not adhere to that?

That said, what about just doing platinum members at 50+ transactions? We would still have the benefit of knowing when someone reaches plus or gold, but only truly prolific sellers will likely gain platinum status.
Another suggestion would be resetting the list each year, but making a side note of the status thread regulars had for the previous year. Perhaps a perk to further differentiate platinum members could be that your status doesn't reset each year with everyone else.
