I know this may seem obvious, but the key to revitalizing Nintendo doesn't need to be anything insane to grab us in and make all Nintendo faithful again. I know it doesn't for me anyway. While I do agree something new and exciting is much needed in the gaming world. A simple step for Nintendo would be so new and exciting to a lot of us, I believe it could actually revitalize them initself. I'm talking ONLINE. Obvious, yes. But after some thought as to what this really means, I've given myself a gaming boner. I hope you too can share a boner with me as I list some examples of what Nintendo *could* do for us (at least) if they really care to get us excited and optimistic again. As much as some of you can't stand Nintendo, I know many of you at least used to be big fans and would be drawn back a little if there was some gaming goodness like this: :)

*FZERO GX 2- online with custom cars, your own custom circuit others can join in on. Online Battle race--> last man standing.

*Mario Kart World- Online Circuit Mode. Online Custom Circuit Mode. Robust Battle mode w/ New, Custom and Classic maps, Upgradable Karts.

*Pikmin Wars- Manage and raise your armies to battle it out online in over 50+ maps or create your OWN! Create alliances with other players for the ultimate armies! CO-OP Stategic Story Mode. 2 players combine wits to solve various complex puzzles in over 50 campaigns!

*Super Mario Unlimited- Choose from not only Mario or Luigi, but a whole cast of characters from the Mario Unviverse. Play single player through 100+ 3d levels or Co-Op with up to 3 friends! Sick of being mister nice
guy? Then play through the DARK QUEST as one of KING KOOPAS cast to steal the princess!

*Metroid: Odyssey of War- Take on the Metroid Prime universe as part of an elite bounty hunter team that becomes caught in a massive revoultionary war of the worlds. Explore over 8 planets in single player mode or Co-Op (2 players)in an amazing space opus you won't soon forget. If adrenaline inducing battles is what you crave, take part in an epic war as one of 8 races in a battle to the death. Over 20 battle modes available including team play and "Death Hunt"!

I could go on and on really. :) I tell you guys, If I owned Nintendo there would be many happy gamers. But who knows? Maybe someone hit them in the head with a stick and they're on this path already. I'm sure it would help their current situation.

Anyway, lets build some hype here. List your ideas for dream games Nintendo can give us in their next system. Here's a few more from me:

-Punch Out World Tour? Online Punch Out with Create a character, Stat Building, Training mode??

-PilotWings Academy- One huge world with tons of people flying, jetpacking, skydiving etc.. through hundreds of missions! Or maybe just joyride around and cause trouble! :)

Go back to IGN, Matt.

If you owned Nintendo the people around you would rape your gaijin ass so fast you'd lose more money in less time than Bush has.

I think your wrong. I'm a pretty big Nintendo fan and I'm pretty sure many other Nintendo fans would love the same thing. I'm not saying get rid of single player modes or anything. I'm just hoping for some expansion. Come on guys...

and the problem is? That's what I wnated THIS fucking generation and didn't get. I stil have a dusty broadband adapter damn it! >:|
I'm not saying I don't want new franchises. Of course I do. I'd just like to experience some classic Nintendo goodness online. I know I'm not alone here.

Mario Kart and Fzero online for example would own. I'm talking REAL online with full support and tons of features.

No wait. what am I asking for?!! I'd rather have War game clone number 3457 and Standard FPS clone number 8mil (only with the best graphics evar). Nintendo makes too many sequels! =\

Listen. guys. Your missing my point. I obviously want new games as well. I'm just giving some examples on how a simple change could actually make a huge difference in their already existing products. Are all of you so jaded that you don't enjoy playing an Fzero or Mario kart game anymore? If so, put down the controller and just stop playing games. Your negativity is getting lame. I know its cool to hate on Nintendo these days, but really your trying too hard now.

I have an idea. How about some non-jaded gamers reply? Or maybe I'll start an Xenon thread so you all can wet your panties until microsoft isnt cool anymore!! I hear they may have the best graphics and games with titties you know! lol

Nintendo's #1 problem is it's image. I think they're working on it, but here's some things just off the top of my head they could do to improve it:
-more advertising (especially of close 3RD party games)
-better advertising (more gameplay footage)
-BETTER REPRESENTATION @ retailers & rentailers (walk into a local Blockbuster and you'll see why Nintendo is "dead" to most...DO SOMETHING about this)
-more demo disc's...the competition do them and so should you!
-don't forget your old IP (Kid Icarus, Punch Out, EarthBound...hell break out Detective Club, Clu Clu Land and Star Tropics if just to diversify your own line-up of exclussive games and show your history)
-more collaborations (not whoring though), you're onto something there
-diversify in-house portfolio, don't expect 3RD parties to fill in the gaps in your own library
-if there's a BLATENT hole in your line-up (no ninja game while Sony get's Shinobi & MS get's Ninja Gaiden, or no big-time realistic racer or big exclussive FPS or 3D fighter) than fill it or contract an EXCLUSSIVE series from someone else...make Ridge Racer exclussive as your racing series or Bloody Roar exclussive as your 3D fighting series
-go online, if just to shut the naysayers up
-buy something...Sonic Team, Clover Studios, Bandai...SOMETHING, show that you're still a seriously player
-do more than gaming...movies, music, entertainment, TV, your own "NP Award Show", more merchandising, your own stores/arcades/cafe's something to show that you're STILL alive so people won't think you're "dead"...get your name out there more to show how big/diverse you're becoming
-embrace the press more often, they think you're "dead" too
-if there's a game on PS3 *and* on Xenon but *not* on Revolution...ADDRESS THE ISSUE and correct it, don't be left out again
-old school gaming, go for it: compilations, collections, rare forgotten games, games that have never made it to the west...doesn't matter if they're old GO FOR IT, your audience will grow older and grow larger by identifying yourself as the "classic gaming" OG who's *still* around...there's TONS of games that many people (newer gamers) didn't get to play like games from Atari, SNK, NEC and Sega...GET THOSE GAMES on your system, make allies with these companies and show the "new kids" what's up!

EDIT: Here's some more I just thought of:
-When you get an exclussive, don't just let it be a handshake, make it to where if said "exclussive" agreement is broken (Super Monkey Ball, PSO, Sonic, RE, Bloody Roar, Godzilla, Virtua Quest, Tales, Killer 7, Veiwtiful Joe ending up on other systems) than you get something in return like DMC, JSRF, Toe-Jam & Earl, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, etc. ...something new to your current library, anything...even if it's "just" a port
-if the kiddy image is still hard to shake, use that to your advantage by focusing on Anime licences...kid's, teens and adults are getting into this more and more...if you can't turn on a dime to skew your market older sharply, than use this Ainme trend to "grow" instead of trying to force a skew (like Eternal Darkness & Conker tried to in the past)

never though id be saying this but... not every game has to be online to be fun. basically you just want rehashed shit that's online enabled. :\

im expecting much more from "revolution" than online mario games.

yes lol Xenon rulz hahah

Dig yer head out of the sand, matey. There ain't no conspiracies. It just so happens that since on Nintendo consoles 98.9% of the noteworthy content comes from Nintendo themselves, gamers such as myself who buy those systems would appreciate if they deviated from their standard practices a lot more than they do now.

Also, pet peeve: It's "you're", not "your."

And so am I. My point is online for some of their titles is long over due. And I'm sorry but if you think Nintendo games are rehashed you should also be bitching about the endless supply of FPS and various other stale bullshit that's inthe market right now. Oh wait, lets all get excited about Madden 200X which is the same shit every single year and no one says a word. LOL. There will always be Mario Kart. There will always Be Zelda etc. Just like any other company will make sequels to their key franchises. I'm not asking for stale shit. I like these games though and I would like to play them online.

I'll spell "you're" correctly when you when you do the same. "yer" ?1! Is that supposed to be some kind of internet hillbilly speak? :) Also, i'm sure I could do a post search and give you some lessons too. Nice one though. You sure put me in my place...for no apparent reason.

Why are people always posting ideas to help Nintendo out? They're like the second biggest publisher, right? Don't they make a crapload of money? Where were you guys with your fancypants ideas when Acclaim needed you, huh? You're fixing the wrong companies!

The Path to GAF Success:
1. Create new thread with a title that promises to fix an already successful company
2. Restate the company's current plan, but then say "WITH ONLINE!!"
3. Wave your hands around a lot and make crazy faces so that it sounds important
4.
5. Profits

Actually, yes, "yer" was some internet hillbilly speech. Actually, internet hillbilly pirate speak. Thus "matey." I thought that was pretty obvious, but maybe not so much.

And I'm sure you could find my slip up, it happens. But that's why it's a pet peeve for me. I hate when people confuse "your" with "you're." Just a personal thing. And the only reason I mentioned it was because you did it multiple times in your post.

Also, that was the least important thing in my post... I was just noting that to help you out. Conveniently ignored the rest, but it's all good :)

Lighten up.

Well thanks. I am aware of the difference. Just typing fast between calls at work. Ignoring the rest of my post though? =_(

*Sigh* I knew this would happen. I swear some of you were abused by someone in a mario suit as a child or something. Anyway, nothing positive has come from this. Even olimario is a jaded prick now. Lock this bitch.

All this shit should've already been accomplished this generation. I'm sick and tired of Nintendo and their feet-dragging ways.

I don't really see much of a need to expand their IP's. I think they need to take their existing, unused IP's and transform them into a category that fits gamers today.

For Example:

Hogan's Alley could be thier answer to GTA/Max Payne
Kid Icarus could be thier answer to Ratchet and Clank
Mach Rider could become a Spy Hunter-style game

Nintendo is sitting on a wealth of unused IP's. If they took these and transformed them to suit the market today, they'd be better off.

Look at Blizzard. They are so damn successful and they have only 3 major IP's. WarCraft, StarCraft, and Diablo.

While a new Kid Icarus would be nice (as we haven't seen a Kid Icarus game in forever), Nintendo needs to make new IPs plz. You might be content seeing the same crap dug from its grave and expanded to fit Nintendo's extremely niche fanbase, but not me. If Nintendo is going to be supplying the majority of the "worthwhile" content on its consoles, then it damn well better expand into some new IPs. Pikmin 2 is brilliant and is better than 9/10 of all the other Nintendo games that came out this gen.

Why are we pushing so hard that Nintendo should make new IPs? Square Enix = DQVIII and FFXII. I never hear any compliants of those.

Wait, don't get me wrong. I'm all for new IP's from every company, but in Nintendo's case, I'd be just as happy if they dug up some of their old IP's.

My problem with the Cube is that they are content on making sequels to the N64 library. Wave Race, 1080, etc. whereas they forget all about thier older IP's.

How come when people quote my posts, they make generilizations about how I feel based on how OTHER people feel?

And, IYMK, the only reason I accept Final Fantasy is because EVERY game features a new world and brand new case of characters with only a handfull of "postmarks" that keep it grounded in the same universe (Chocobos, Moogles, Cid - and even in Cid's case, it's a new Cid each time. Shit, even the Chocobos/Moogles get redesigned each time). Hell, most of the time even the random battle system is changed in dramatic ways. And in the case of FFXII, it's not even a random battle system anymore!

And I'm not a fan of the Dragon Quest series, but the same actually applies.

um I can see your point about new characters in their IPs. You forgot FFX-2 though. I love FF games myself so I don't care. I just brought it up as an example.

Ohohoh, then you must have not seen my rant about how much I hate FFX-2.

How about SUPER MARIO GASM with 1000000000+ worlds and every Nintendo character ever made, with maybe a few Sega and Bandai mascots tossed in for good luck? Better yet, have a SPECIAL FANBOY EDITION that ships with a 30 foot cubic zirconium figurine cut to resemble Yoshi dryhumping Crash Bandicoot, and maybe a Ken Kutaragi pinata stuffed with delicious candy and Nintendo DS units?

Lord, you kids think so small.

Hey there's nothing wrong with the old franchises and I'd love to see them on Revolution but I DEMAND and a lot of new ones. And if you're gonna make a fucking sport game make a realistic one not the mario crap I've been sick and tired of seeing everywhere. Anyway I think Revolution will do just fine, and will prove a lot of hating assholes in this forum wrong.

How about a game that launches my physical body into space? I mean, it's not like we don't have this kind of technology already.

Updates to games I've played on my SNES, N64 and Gamecube just don't excite me like they used to...

I think they should take the games that they have... and then make a sequel, with MORE levels, MORE characters and MORE of everything! GUYS, WHO'S WITH ME!!?

I don't think it's so much new IPs that Nintendo needs, but games in genres that they haven't touched much.

I mean, some of GC's games could easily have switched characters and turned into a new franchise. They could easily sell mario sunshine as another game and no one would complain that it's a mario clone, but accept it as a new product. But... why use another character when it's still a action platformer, when they have already established an IP in this genre?

The only reason for creating new IPs would be coz it's fun to see new characters/themes (that has good design)... looking at the same characters in every game starts to look stale (eg. mario). For instance, I wouldn't have as much of a problem with a Zelda SRPG than with a mario SRPG (less zelda franchise games than mario ones). If they are only expanding their less used IPs more, most people probably won't have a problem with that.

That's why bringing back old characters might be a better idea than creating new IPs. 1) characters don't look stale yet. 2) you still have somewhat of a fanbase from the old game's fans.

I can't understand what's wrong with new IPs. WHY do I have to play with the same damn character who's gonna save the same damn girl every time I play a platform a RPG an SRPG and even a tennis or a racing game? Why? Why?
