Call of Duty 4: Exploding Car Clone Wars Official Thread

Haven't read the thread, thoughts so far:

-Worst manual ever, 12 pages, 4 of which are about the game and how to turn on your 360.
-First time I've ever seen the Activision logo in about 15 years, that was a surprise.
-Fucking amazing game so far.
-
A few mins back, I was in a chopper, being told about a nuclear bomb in the city. I thought to myself 'I hope I get to see that A-bomb go off before the end of the ga..." KABOOOOM. Who needs waggle, when the 360 has mind control?

Back to the action...

Wow, just tried the part...

Where you go after Al-Asad in the T.V station on Veteran difficulty....the HYOOOGE battle...damn insanity...

Finished that section on Veteran last night. Suffice to say...it sucked. Totally brought down the great pacing and frenetic combat that the game consistently held. All feels right again after cheesing through to the spawn trigger, but spending over an hour's worth of attempts was a buzzkill.

IGN's COD4 H2H says better load times for PS3?

After loading a variety of sections from the game it seems that the winner for shortest load times is the PC with the PS3 coming in a close second and the 360 following right behind.

However, for those gamers that want instant action we're talking about the upper limits of these load times reaching of 15-20 seconds on the PC, 18-25 seconds on PS3, and 20-27 seconds on 360. Most of them are far shorter.

I'm a CoD n00b, this is my first one, and that scene blew my mind!

The PS3 version of the manual is no better. It a few black and white pages, devoid of any button/controller layouts and doesn't tell you what a claymore is or how to detonate it :/

And the freaking dogs always kill me!

Is there a designated GAF time for the MP yet? (like the TF2 Thursdays) I love playing this online and would like to join in some GAF games. If we get anything organized, let me know.

It's from Bad Boys 2. At least that's what I think of when I type it or read it. :lol

And JB, I won't be able to play until 9 or 10 tonight. I get home late on Tues and Thurs. :(

I always think Hot Fuzz personally.

Gametrailer's 360 V.S PS3 COD 4 comparision video HD is up.

Time to stop the question about which version has better graphics. They are alomost same.

I'm playing the 360 version on a 1080p DLP through hdmi and it looks nothing like those PS3 shots in the beginning of this thread.

I'm not trying to start a bitchfest or anything, the graphic whore in me was just sorely let down when the game booted up.

Are you serious? I'm playing the 360 version (albeit on a 20" monitor), and the game wipes the floor with anything I've ever played, ever when it comes to visuals and performance.

Any tips for the sniper part after Ghillied Up? I can't hit dude for shit. I'm looking at the flags to gauge wind resistance, but it ain't working. Makes me want to re-watch 'Shooter'.

Also someone got the location of every laptops?

After you finish the game once, a cheat menu is unlocked.

Restart the game from mission one. Pause the game. Go to options, then Cheats. It will tell you how many intel items are in the mission, and how many you have recovered.

Rinse and repeat for each mission.

anyone else feel search and destroy games end way too quickly?

The winner shouldn't be decided by first to 4 points, it should be decided by most points in 12 minutes or something.

it needs a time limit IMO

There's a moment where the wind dies down completely, just before he is to leave, and you're told "Now or never". Aim just above his head, over his right ear, and pull the trigger.

But even in Hot Fuzz it's from Bad Boys II! :P

Why not? People would buy this game for the online competition.

So far there are tons and tons of mp servers. Things are looking good for the PC version. We remember COD1 and IW's roots, they in turn didn't forget about us.

Ha! Thanks.

Played the game on hardened yesterday and I am stuck in one of the stages. Its where you're playing the SAS after the copter crash. For the life of me, I can't get through that open field where there is a lone soldier with a flashlight walking around. I try to sneak by and I can make it to the last haystack next to the stream, but as soon as I get there, I get spotted and then all hell breaks loose. I would probably be able to shoot my way through, but there is a damn helicopter that spams me with bullets. How the hell do I clear this area?

On another note, I am going to get a computer monitor for this game. The game looks great on a 720p lcd, but when my friend popped it into his 22" Dell Ultra running vga at 1080p, O_O! The background seriously looks like a solid 3d background and the colors are really crisp and photorealistic.

I really want the P90, mostly because it's a very peculiar looking gun.

It was my favorite gun in Vegas for that very same reason. Level 40 is going to take a while.

Well, I take back the 360 vs PS3 comparison. If you look at his non-gaf-resized pictures at http://avspics.blogspot.com/, it looks exactly the same.

Wow, are you serious? The framerate IS nice, but everything else feels less than impressive. I'm not taking a jaded stance on this either as I've been impressed by a lot of other games over the last year.

The textures are somewhat low resolution, the geometry seems very simple, and the overall lighting is a bit flat. It's a nice looking game, but far from the most impressive. It's not even the most impressive 60 fps game I've seen lately (Ratchet and Clank Future looks far more impressive overall, if you ask me).

The original GRAW for XBOX360 wipes the floor with CoD4, visually. Really, it's only claim to fame is its framerate (which is indeed a big deal). I think the game looks great, but it feels like a suped up Quake 3 engine game. I don't even think it looks as good as Resistance Fall of Man let alone Gears of War.

I am enjoying the game a bit more, though. It is indeed a script fest, but there are some pretty enjoyable moments in there.

It's interesting...COD4 has a MAJOR "holy freaking crap" factor when you first start to see it in action. Once you get to the later missions, you can get to it's flaws graphically and some of the luster wears off a bit.

Still an amazing looking game, but not quite near perfectiontown like some reviewers tend to think (coughIGN). Not downplaying the game in any way, it's still amazing...but there's still room to improve.

Thank you so much for saying that. I thought I was going crazy.

I'm not all full of hate, the game is still super fucking fun.

I can see what your saying about the geometry and textures, but I disagree on the lighting. It's not quite Halo 3 level, but it's very well done. Although, I'm not sure if this would have an impact, but I did notice that the default brightness for the game was too high. I had to turn it down significantly to get it down to IW's recommended level. IMO the lighting, particle effects, and framerate are what makes this game shine.

Wow this game is amazing. Did the sp in one go, I just could not put it down. Do not let me get started on the MP. Jeez christ, so much fun. Lag is a major killer for me for MP for any game. One of the main reason MP is so fun is there is literally zero lag for me.

Great job IW, on setting an example on how things should be done.

Quiet, junior. That was a blatant attempt of yours to stir the pot.

2 seconds?

Really?

Yeah, really!!!

I know, it's ludicrous, but people did question the slower BDROM speed as a factor for load times just a few pages back.

I was simply pointing out that it wasn't a factor in this game and there is no mandatory HD install.

Lay off the black tar heroin man, we all aren't out to get you.

I kind of agree with dark. The textures are weak if you get up close. But the game does a lot with particle effects. I guess Marco was right calling it the MGS2 of the next gen. Still, it looks great.

MP > SP by a fair bit though.

Beat it last night on Veteran, the ICBM facility was a super bitch. Once you get down near the control room, the guys with shotguns kill you in one hit and they shoot the millisecond they see a piece of you. I had to crawl on the ground on some parts and inch my way around a corner just so I could hit them in the elbow to get their stumble animation. That way I had enough time to shoot them properly. I have no chance of completing the Mile High Club in under a minute until I get my new TV. That way I can get the headshots a little easier.

Yes, clearly. :lol Of course, you conveniently ignore the dozens of other comments that favor other platforms on numerous pages before this one.

The first hallway, I went right through the middle, throwing flashbangs at certain points to blind them. It was surprisingly easy. The second hallway, the one that was blocked off and required you to take a side corridor, was a total bitch though. Everyone became super accurate and were able to kill you much faster than usual. I had to hide behind the giant cylinders, throw flashbangs, then immediately shoot or rush them before they recovered.

That area must have taken me more than 10 retries.
