Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 |OT| Back to black

A good thing you can vote with your wallet then. But won’t the campaign be boring to play again for the 100th time?
Im voting with my wallet too. No single player, no sale.
Also, when I saw the cover art the main DudeBro doesn't even have his rear irons flipped up which kinda is accurate given what COD seems to have become. Oh well, the time for shooters has passed somewhat; back in the early 2000s we had an embarrassment of awesome shooters.

I don't blame people who like the campaigns for being upset that this doesn't have one. I personally think the campaigns are utter trash, but to each his own.

But for anyone who even has a slight interest in the battle royale genre, this one is really damn fun. If you get hooked to it, it's worth the price on its own. And it has to be, because the regular multiplayer is as brainless as ever.

You aren't getting half the usual experience, though. Blackout, potentially hundreds of hours of amusement, has replaced a 5 hour campaign. There's also the most comprehensive zombies mode to date.

Blackout is a game mode. That’s like adding CTF and adding £20 to the game. Single player adds a whole new set of players who can’t play online. There’s a huge difference in playing alone offline vs playing online.

The usual pricing model is - MP only? Drop the price. I hope this doesn’t set a new standard, because removing the manuals and only using one disk was supposed to LOWER the cost of games, yet they are now more expensive.

In terms of content, which is what we're paying for, I don't see how you can argue that you're getting less.

You call Blackout a mode and compare it to CTF. There are standalone games that consist entirely of battle royale. Can you say the same for CTF?

Yeah I can. Games ship with various content amounts, always have done. But games have also always had prices reflect that content. For example in the past, some COD games had zombies and some did not... but it didn’t change the price. You can argue that zombies is a much bigger and in depth mode than black out... but it didn’t change the price. Why? Because it was a game mode.

Short story is that games should reflect in price. Black out will likely be in the next COD, and it will likely also have single player, as they have already said. But what happens when it’s the same price as this years entry? What then?

It keeps coming off to me at least that activision are very much a publisher that tries to see how much they can get away with before people catch on. I mean they are STILL selling MP maps as paid DLC, which is just wrong on so many levels... you don’t fracture your user base, it’s been proven to be bad. But I guess you can do that when the $$$ come in.

From the popularity on twitch it doesn’t really looks like it has affected the popularity of the game.

Yeah I can.
Can you name some? I can't think of any.

The price does reflect the amount of content. Multi player, Blackout, Zombies. As opposed to SP, MP and zombies. And as I have already said, Blackout has potentially hundreds of hours of amusement. A typical COD SP campaign has roughly 5.

Short story is that games should reflect in price. Black out will likely be in the next COD, and it will likely also have single player, as they have already said. But what happens when it’s the same price as this years entry? What then?
We have no idea what will be in the next COD. The Battle Royale fad may well have died a death by then. I expect there will be 3 modes as usual, just as there is in this game. I will be very surprised if the next COD contains Blackout, SP, MP and zombies.

It keeps coming off to me at least that activision are very much a publisher that tries to see how much they can get away with before people catch on. I don't disagree with this in general, but I don't feel that they're trying to exploit anyone with BO4. Just as I didn't when I paid full price for another MP only game in Overwatch.

Pretty bad when I've put more time into the Specialist mode and had more fun with it than any CoD campaign since MW2. The cutscenes are more entertaining as well, and pretty dark.

On that note, I suck at this game. I haven't played CoD on PC since BO1, and I'm gettin mopped in team modes. Not so much in FFA though, atleast. I also haven't played CoD period since BO3.

I'm finding TDM ridiculously difficult. Seems like a total sweatfest. I was pretty good at BO3 but I've no idea how so many people have gotten so good, so quickly.

I know right? Its almost as if tubers, streamers and other content creators prefer to play multiplayer or zombies over campaign by a factor of ten to one.

Crazy.

Whoa can not believe how many people must have zero standards when choosing what game to play just by looking at those twitch numbers.

Not only blackout has no proper gameplay to support battle royale mode, but it performs so much worse than pubg. Juts proves to me that there are so many more casuals in gaming who like games where there's literally no learning curve in it.

I know right? It's like these filthy casuals don't understand what games they are supposed to like! Those uncircumcised Philistines should enjoy stuff based on technical stats, not because they find it fun! What is the world coming to?

I don't find it that sweaty at all. Maybe you have to adjust your playstile. SMGs are no longer OP and LMGs are actually a proper option now. The default assault rifle (icr7?) is also a beast. I also see a lot of guys still jumping around like if this game had double jumping. I noticed that jumping significantly reduces your accuracy, so I generally avoid jumping around too much. Especially jumping around corners, which was the thing to do in BO3. I'm currently at level 31 and the game already starts to grow on me.

I don’t mind it doesn’t have a single player. I’m not a fan of the new COD single players.

I DO have an issue with the price. You’re getting half the usual experience, and as such the game should be priced lower. Just because it has blackout doesn’t mean that the price is justified.

If the game released at, say, £30 rather than £50, with a £50 “ultra” edition that included all DLC (something g I think MP games should NOT be forcing people to pay for), they I can see it being a lot better.

But this is activision, so... Fuck yo’ wallets.

The new game, surprisingly, has a large amount of content. Between the Zombies mode, which had enough polish and content that it could be a standalone title similar to Left 4 Dead at this point, Blackout, Multiplayer, and its Specialist HQ (which is basically the "campaign"). There is a good bit to do. Also I have not seen anything in the larger packages that warrant its price unless you wanted to buy a steelbook with the season pass. The rest is just fodder attached to it and safely ignored.

Completed all of the Specialist HQ on Veteran and thought I would be good to go for (at least the early levels of) multiplayer. I couldn't get a single killstreak. I remember being pretty decent at Blops 2 and 3 (and godly in WaW), but daaaamn this is hard. I am trying to go slower, but it feels like the game is not designed for that at all (Crouching, aiming around corners). Seems like everyone I go against simply rushes down the all, instantly gets a few headshots and moves on without missing a beat.

Was getting better by the end of the night (Around level 7 now). Hopefully I will get the hang of it.

Trust me dude, it's not just you. Most people are saying the same. I've been playing this game since before release on several modes - TDM, KC, Control and it's an absolute sweat. Like I have to be juiced up at all times to even keep up. I could drop in WW2 and body most people, but here everyone feels like they're chugging gamma labs while playing.

TBH, the fanchise has been out for over a decade. Most people buying it at this point have played it at some point or another, so competition's high. Most 'noobs' generally tend to flow in around December during the holidays.

Having a lot of fun with this game so far. I was afraid I’d miss single player but the cut scenes and characters are so cringey that putting up with them through an entire campaign would have been painful.

Blackout is great and multiplayer is hard but fun. Haven’t tried zombies yet.

You know what I noticed last night while getting destroyed in TDM/KC/Control was that the other team would be full of level 30s and my team would be me (18), friend (16), then like level 9, 5, 1. How would it think that this was a fair matchup? Of course we're getting dominated.

Any tips for solo blackout players? I can survive for a decent amount of time, but almost always I get killed super quick during my first encounter with an enemy. I only find crap weapons like the saug where as it seems everybody else is rocking the big guns.

The beta for Blackout is something I really enjoyed. I'm waiting for a stripped version for just that game mode.... I know, I should keep on dreaming. Standard multiplayer mode with shitty small maps and that class-based characters don't interest me anymore.
Or just hope for the best and find it in some discount. Also, this also doesn't seem to happen very often with CoD games.

Sound in this is a bit off, I mean the overall game sounds ok but FMVs & Woods in the Specialist HQ are really low despite cinematics being set to 10.

Also during the Specialist missions, don't die just as you unlock the killstreak during the tutorial missions, I mean at the same time. You'll be gifted with a softlock.

First cod I’ve played since blops 2. Loving it. Nice to have a BR game that actually feels good to control.
Agreed. It's basically PUBG except it works and you rarely spend 10 minutes running without seeing someone only to die from a headshot from fuck knows where. Really enjoying it so far. My best game consisted of four kills in a half built tower block then falling off the roof trying to get the 50 cal killshot on some dude halfway across the map. Good times lol.

-armor is your best friend
-stick to high grass or shrubbery
-Never make a potshot, only fire when you feel you can take someone down.
-avoid high conflict areas, if everyone is landing at nuketown, just land somewhere else to supply and let them kill eachother

First TDM game. What. The. Fuck. How fucking long have people been playing this?
Dude there is no learning curve with these games anymore. Since so little changes between games and since most CoD players never really stop playing, they STAY good. It took me until my 5th or 6th prestige in BO2 to be consistently good. Now I may have to prestige master before I can catch up. Hopefully the Christmas noobs will even thing out a bit.

That’s why Blackout is a breath of fresh air. Not everyone has it figured out yet and those who put 300 hours into PUBG (ahem... ME) have a bit of an advantage.

You forgot to mention that for TDM many of the maps are classic maps that people know like the back of their hand. Learning maps in FPS is like learning character movesets in fighting games. You just have to put in the time to be able to compete.

Played some serious blackout today with my buddies. Game is great so far
Ran into a few bugs but nothing serious. Won 2 of our last 3 games of the night

So it's sounding like Black Ops 4 will be getting a "Supply Stream Loot System," which will be a lot closer to the Fortnite unlock system, rather than the slot machine type of random loot found in every other recent COD game. It should be interesting to see how this works in various game modes.

Oh great, look at that ridiculous neon adorned costume. I respect giving people options, but does it need to venture into realm of stupidity ruining the immersion for the rest of us boring people?

Immersion for what? The game is literally full of completely ridiculous over the top shit.

Are there one day rentals on console via store?
Don't quite know what you mean. Are you asking if you can rent the game to try for just one day? The answer to that is no.

One thing I will say; if you heard that the Specialist missions are "deeper" than we first thought and actually replace a campaign... Yeah, no. They consist of a tutorial mission and a bot match by character. There are FMVs but that's about it. There is no hidden depth to it and it really isn't worth playing more than once per specialist. Please don't get this game if you want a campaign and are going off the idea that the Specialist missions will give you that.

Have you been to the future and seen that special military forces won't be wearing Mexican inspired "Day of the Dead" outfits while engaged in warfare? If not, then I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Seriously though, yeah, it would be nice to have a toggle for all these outfits, for the players who don't want to see them. And I'm sure they're only going to get crazier from here. Give it a few months and these will look tame in comparison.

Haven't played CoD for years. I liked zombies and spec ops co-op. This has no SP right? What's it like for pure co-op - haven't followed any news sorry.

It took me until 5:00 pm tonight to even realize this game is out. I used to line up at midnight for it in the 360 days, and now it seems like it came and went without a sound.

On CoD release day I’d usually see at least 20 people on my friends list playing including last year with WWII. Today I had 1 friend playing this and that’s the only reason I realized it released.

I hope those that bought it are enjoying it, if not the community may dry up rather quick. Especially when they start segregating season pass vs regular peeps.

Your friends apparently aren't a good barometer of sales. Game is selling insalnely well.

Never said they were.

I was just going anecdotally, great for it if it’s blowing up the charts, I hope it does exceptionally. As every game would in my mind.

Just seems like the hype is at an all time low (even bottoming out) in my circle.

Caved and bought the game. Its ok, definitely worth playing the spec hq to understand specialist abilities. Blackout is ok, but frustrating really need to play as a team and i can never seem to land anywhere near mine.

Where are the ping bars? I know you can see ping and packet loss in menu, but they show ping bars as an example but dont then include them. This is stupid.

Was playing regular tdm and started to get hammered by no/ scoping. It was rediculous. Ended up in hard core tdm. Thats far better as bit slower game play and you had a chance against no/quick scopers (not that there are many in that game mode). Will be sticking to hc from now on.

i have this game but no team death match? kill confirmed? where are these modes? I can see Zombies blackout and control that's it. I don't mind the lack of single player to focus on multiplayer but where are the rest of the game modes

Select multiplayer, not control. Then go over to "core" instead of the featured playlists. All game types are there. You can also play "Chaos TDM" or whatever it's called in the featured playlist, which will be a mix of TDM and Kill Confirmed. Enjoy.

Rather than clicking on control click the multiplayer box underneath. This then allows you to select game modes. Look at top of screen and you can switch between modes eg normal hc and something else.

edit. Beaten.

I finally got into enough of a groove earlier to not lose every single TDM/KC match. A couple nights ago, we lost 9 in a row. And we lost BAD every time.

Tonight we mostly dominated with me and my partner being at the top of the scoreboard. A lot of that has to do with getting lucky with the matchmaking. There are still times where a team full of level 45-50s goes up against us with brand new players and you wonder what the hell is wrong with the matchmaking code, though.
