Why does it say 'trial' by those two names?
There is an Xbox free-MP preview for a week going on right now. I am not sure if it's on other platforms as well (could be). So I am guessing that is why.
The Christmas Zombie mode seems extra hard.. some of the snowmen scared me too.. fun times though. I've been up past midnight playing for a week!

Had my first system freeze while playing this last night, every other time I've had a game crash I was able to exit to the home screen and quit the application but CoD froze right up and did that thing there the audio just does this super loud annoying sound while it freezes, awesome. Had to hold the power button until the consoles rebooted and did disc repair.
I swear this game played better before they started patching it, PS5 getting nothing but trouble from every update they put out it seems.

I would assume the trial version is not next gen enhanced as it doesnt look near as good on the Series X as the PS5.
Cross play and progression makes me want to double dip more then anything as 90% of my play time is on the PS5 but my son is on Series X and when we do play we wont cross play with PC because of cheats.

Man, more people need to start making noise about pc crossplay.
Even ignoring the shit that goes on; on console we pay for online gameplay and part of that fee I always assumed to go towards a strict online experience free from compromise.
I find the situation unacceptable.

There is a lot of cheating going on in consoles as well just not near as bad as pc gaming.
I have a nice pc and wouldnt play shooters there because of that.
I have used my nephews before as examples but they are using those strike packs in cold war with no recoil unlimited ammo and aim abuse.
Its sickening that devs wont put a stop to these controller mods you can buy at WalMart that is sitting right next to the controllers.

My brother and i played our first Cold War Alcatraz/Rebirth match last night and won thanks to our teammate who was one of the last standing at the very end. My brother plays a TON of Blops4/Alcatraz and i've played a lot of it with him so i feel like some people have an advantage knowing the layout right now... really seemed like some people were just randomly roaming to try and get a feel for the map.
I LOVE the visual upgrades in this version of the map, i feel like they did a really damn good job with it. It felt great to play on Alcatraz with the WZ mechanics.

I don't quite understand the issue with this. If you are getting destroyed, shouldn't this put you in lobbies with other players also getting destroyed?

Not sure what can be done about controller enhancements essentially being external inputs. But when you have an open platform injecting all manner of cheats into the program, the situation is just going too far.

I play solo in TDM most of my play time and my biggest complaint about the SBMM it seems to swing too wildly from one extreme to the next.
Seems I have 3 or 4 decent games then the next 3 or 4 I get wrecked hard.
Then it wants to drop me in several matches where it feels like I am playing against bots then the next match is against pros.

I seem to do decent to well in most games, then have a game or two where I'm playing against a team full of quickscope gods and my team does nothing.
It's odd, but I dunno, it doesn't bother me, I'm gonna win some and lose some. People complain about the SBMM and I don't get why, are they complaining that it doesn't work? Then why are people doing this reverse boosting stuff?

That's exactly it. Even when you're doing well it's completely hollow because 1. it's only because the algorithm has taken pity on you for a few games and 2. you're going to get punished for doing well by being pub stomped for 3 or 4 games shortly afterwards. How can anyone improve their game?
The system is terrible and makes the game not fun.

Yeah I really like thats its in place and thats probably what happens to me when I run into these great players they are usually in groups and have probably just come off reverse boosting.
I play a lot of Rocket League and its SDMM seems to work quite well as each rank has divisions within said rank and it seems to keep me in a fairly competitive range at all times.

I dunno, I’m by no means good and my KD with EKIA in this game is 1.47, I find next to impossible to have a good time, I get all the rubbish team mates who can’t see enemies in front of them and this then gets them killed and I die next, they don’t know map control and the enemies i play against are all jump shotting round corners, booty sliding everywhere melting me instantly.
it’s almost as if this game thinks I’m good because I have a KD of 1.47, I’m not I am bang average, I can’t play against the people it puts me against.
it is not enjoyable, I’ve never been someone to drop nukes, I just want a game where I can play a few chill games and get some kills, this game doesn’t let me.

It is frustrating to hit a wall when you've been doing well for a bit, I'm still having a lot of fun with it though.
Zombies is kind of boring in solo play, it takes too long to ramp up and I can only have 1 weapon from my Create a Class kits. I'm getting into it a bit more but I feel like this was made to be a multiplayer mode, I was hoping for some more robust single player stuff there.

That happens to me, too. Because the SBMM puts you in with bots for 3 games at a time you can easily go 30 - 8 for a few games. The SBMM then decides you're a CoD Pro Superstar, saddles you with a team of turds, then matches you against a team of Scumps.

Problem with SBMM is that it almost never works, it still has to match you into games and what happens is that if you do decent in the game, you get shoved into games often with people who just wreck face. You will do decent and have fun in the game giving yourself ok stats, the game suddenly is like "you play with these guys" who are all leet pro gamer types who are doing crazy 360 quick scope bunny hope multikills and you feel like you can't do a single thing in matches.
Technically when you are doing bad again it will pair you up with weaker opponents but then it will just bounce you back to playing with too good of players.
It feels like you are dealing with extremes in this game and it's noticeable. I'll be getting top performance, great K/D, having ton of fun with the game, then suddenly Im in match after match with players who make me feel helpless and i'm the bottom of the scoreboard for multiple games in a row.
It swings way too much when really... just let us play with whoever we randomly match with.

Yeah that sounds preferable I suppose, or you'd think they could do something like fighting games do - ranked and casual play. Rank would have you fight against other players at your level and casual would be first come first serve.

Just curious if you are running the trial in 120 hz mode?
I have no issues running 120 hz on the PS5 version but 120 hz is staying greyed out on this trial version no matter how I set things up.
My cousin has not got the game, if he downloads the free week does anyone know if can we party up?
He never bought MW until after Christmas and when MW did something similar last year it would not let us as it was all separated, going off the fact that the trial people are in the same lobby’s maybe we can this time.
I can’t actually find a definitive answer anywhere before he downloads a few terabytes for the computer to say no to partying up.

Option to enable 120 hz is Grayed out for me aswell on S|X. Need to check in my Xbox settings maybe its switched off...odd, I don't know what I'm missing.

Have talked to a couple of people and doesnt seem to be working on the free trial.
I have tried on my current monitor the LG 27GN950 and the Sony X900H and even though the console is set at 120 hz its still greyed out in game.

I would play 1 game then sit at the menu thinking... do I really want to play another?
I was enjoying it the first couple weeks, but then that meta and $$ecosystem started to seep in. Honeymoons ova.

I hope Treyarch (Activision) listens to the community and in half a years time I can get back into a CW that feels satisfying to play again.

I bought the game only a few days ago, so i can't give an elaborated opinion, but for me the matchmaking is more balanced in CW than in Modern Warfare.
I feel the two games catters to different kind of players, Modern Warfare is more tactical and slow, playing the multiplayer i always felt like everyone had the best loadouts and knew the best spots to camping and what directions of the map they should aim.
Cold War however is way more arcadey and dynamic, you can have fun without memorizing all the spots and optimal loadouts.
I never played Warzone because i don't like battle royales, i think most of the time nothing happens. Maybe it's fun if played with friends.

As far as the matchmaking goes, it's important to also keep in mind that if you're just starting out (or if your stats are bad in general), you won't be facing the same problems that others are complaining about. You'll be at the absolute bottom of the totem pole.
So your "hard" games will be other people who are also terrible. But for those of us with K/Ds in the top 9%, we end up with the insane "I want to go to COD nationals" crews. You get 6 person teams who have coordinated every gadget, who know every head glitch, who watch every avenue and all communicate about it. And here you are with your brother, just 2 old ass gamer dads with diminished reflexes, just trying to have some fun, playing against them because the system is built to fuck you over on purpose.

Looks like the problem is the lack of solo queue. It's the same in any team game, even if you are good at the game, you're gonna be at disadvantage if the other teams is in a party and are communicating properly.

SBMM very much is the problem. Playing with one friend in a "solo queue" situation would still place you against 6 person teams.
Also, people get this confused. This is not "skill-based matchmaking." It's just the term everyone uses because it's what people call it and it helps you find videos and posts about it. It's actually more like "win/lose matchmaking." It's not finding you players in your skill level so you have good games. It's finding people outside of your skill level so you have amazing and horrible games.

I really enjoyed last years version, but for some reason i'm better in this one. Enjoying it, though they really need to go F2P for the regular multi as I don't give a shit about Warzone or the campaign.

Thanks for the heads up! Went over my Xbox settings and everything is greenlit, guees a no go on this free trial.
Haven't decided yet if I should grab it, games feels too damn arcadey coming off New MW which I'm really feeling it..gun play is just amazin.
But on the other hand Cold War is mad cheap atm..might pull the trigger.

Are you on a TV? If so its likely only certain hdmi ports are rated for 120hz.
My tv is 4k HDR with 120hz but the 4K ports only do 60hz and the 120hz port will only do 1080P.

So I didn't know that Cold War weapons are now being used in COD MW Warzone. I played a match of Warzone with Cold War weapons and they suck. There seems to be no range in these guns, too much recoil. Went back to MW guns in warzone

Gunfight in this game is incredibly disappointing. I do miss the ability to mount my gun as it made for some very fun plays in MW. But there are major design problems. First of all the infinite stim shots are a cancer, and feel like they are on nearly half the classes. The decoy grenades are horrible and make no sense... they put deafening footstep noises that walk around in circles, going through walls, no rhyme or reason as to how they would physically work. Then the meta is like those 1v1 Counter-Strike situations where people are crouch/shift-walking silently nonstop. That might be my least favorite style of FPS gameplay.
Then there's the maps.... and this has become a problem in MW as well... The maps used to be better and have gotten progressively worse. The early MW maps had an important design element in common. They allow early peeks and map control. There were almost always initial angles you could challenge, and the would give you intel on where the enemy was going.... KGB is the only map that has that element at all.. and it's such a long thin angle that it's incredibly easy to cross back over unseen anyway. Combined with the sound design and the meta is just completely dreadful.
Alcatraz was the shittiest part of Blackout in BO4, and now it's here to ruin Warzone as well. In the end I think CW is kind of a special sort of shitty, where it manages to make another game worse.

Ohh i see thanks..yup, I only game on TV sets.
Need to double check my ports in the back of the panel and TV settings for Hdmi 2.1
S|X settings app always showed everythings greenlit. Its only grayed out for this gm.

Is it jsut me or is the sound in this game waaaaaay lower than Modern Warefare? I have my headphones up to the max and at best thats medium sound in MW. I can hear everything fine but I just cant get the game to be any louder and everything is dialed to 10 anyway by default.
