Call of Duty: Black Ops II |OT| Black to the Future

I completely agree with everything that eek is saying, and it's actually what I did in all of the previous games. For some reason I just can't seem to get that going in this one though, I'm really not sure why.

In previous games I would run either a SMG or AR loadout depending on the map and situation, and I would frequently get in this zone like eek described above of basically getting the flow of the map. You can never know absolutely for sure where every single enemy player is (short of a Blackbird/VSAT/etc), but paying attention to where you are, where your teammates are, and more importantly where they are not is key. I'm just really not sure why I haven't been able to click with BO2 at all in this regard. Hell, I still can't even find a gun/loadout setup that I even feel comfortable with :/. But that's all very good advice, situational awareness is probably the most important thing that people lack, especially since the game can reward people at low levels by running around like a jackass with a SMG (which is fun and can be the way to go at times, but come on).

Radar, Kill-Feed, and Sounds of Gunfire are pretty much the most important things in CoD.
Then, as long as you have good gun skill to back that up, you'll be a solid player.

There is A LOT of thinking involved with Call of Duty and some maps are crazy with how quickly you make multiple decisions (like Nuketown). That's the reason most people play worse in parties. It's because they're talking to their friends and not thinking about their actions in game.

Also, this is why playing split-screen online is pretty awful. It gets rid of the killfeed and the red dots on the radar are huge because you get the smallest radar ever. Also, it's significantly more difficult to aim because targets are smaller. Lastly, you can't use sound to ur advantage either because you are listening to two people's sound.

do hosts still get gimpted?

I went 9-1 then I re-spawned ended 12-15 I just felt totally off my shot it just didn't feel right, I swear this has happened before.

If you're getting killed by behind a bunch then just position yourself further away from the middle of the map. A nice trick I do is you keep track of generally where your teamates are and aren't and assume any large areas without teamates have enemies.

Yeah this a strategy i've used for years, I think my problem is I don't know the maps very well so I have no control and awareness over what is going on. I find the gunplay in this game really janky at time especially in 50/50s, i don't know what is wrong, shitty hitboxes and lag?

I originally thought i'd just gotten bad at COD but I booted up MW3 and went 50-4 first game with no trouble with face to face encounters at all, the gunplay felt ALOT smoother too and I had no trouble killing dudes at any range.

My K/D in MW3 is 2.84, in Blops2 it is a massive 1.23 lol. I want to like this game as i've missed COD a little but it's making it tough!

The only game that had host disadvantage was mw3. This game gives you about the same amount of host advantage as BO1

It's the maps that create this ridiculous pace in the gameplay.

The Swat in it's current iteration has to be the strongest burst fire weapon since the CoD4 M16. I am absolutely mopping up with it.

Played this again for the first time in quite some time, and I certainly can't say I think it's gotten much better. The game is just too fast, in every conceivable aspect, imo. Looking forward to a game with similar gunplay (but with some recoil) but slowed down, with health about 2-3 times as much as it is here. I wonder if that'll ever come again.

Play TDM.

No scorestreaks, no bullshit. I'm around 300 spm and I rarely ever run into anyone as high. Slowest game mode outside of S&D

I've tried TDM, but the problem is still the gunplay. Too fast. The gameplay is a little bit slower, but I've hated tdm since cod4, and I don't think that'll ever change.

What you're asking for is kind of insane btw. I can't imagine a twitch-based FPS where it would take 12 bullets to kill someone at range (with more recoil too, LOL). The game would basically come down to only CQB since shooting someone long range would never result in a kill (they'd just run into cover) but then the CQB would be fucking terrible because it'd take 9 bullets to kill someone in close range. Fuck that shit lol

Exactly. People wanting COD to change that much need to move onto another game. They're never going to do that to this franchise.

I would love Treyarc to do an all out crazy game. I love Black Ops 2, but from playing the zombie mode, it seems like the team have got an itch to create a full on game based off a crazy premise. It would be cool for them to do a Wolfenstein type game with weird weapons and bizarre maps. Another example would be like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and how awesome that looks. I wanna see a Timesplitters/Blood Dragon/Wolfenstein/Resistance 3 Call of Duty that keeps what makes the COD multiplayer so good, but strip away the seriousness from it.

Doom played really fast and it took a lot of hits to kill people, depending on weapon choice. Its doable and fun. Health regen might break that though.

And yes, I'm playing again. PC, vsync off. Not perfect but close to MW2 experience hit registering, with no need to muck up my connection. Very fun again, as I expected it to be when my bullets work.

Too bad Chaos Moshpit is gone though. No one plays Hardpoint, Demolition, or Headquarters on PC outside of Double XP weekends, but everyone played Chaos Moshpit.

But I don't need you to imagine it. The game designers can do that. Perhaps what I 'want' the isn't well thought out, but other types of shooters can be done.

Either more health or more recoil is really what I'm looking for. Maybe not both, at least to any extreme. As it stands now (most) every gun is far too effective at range when firing full-auto.

I'm trying to find a load out that works well. With previous COD games I always had good load out and used it 95% of them time. Now it feels like I'm struggling trying to pick perks that go well with weapons. :-/ is there a guide that shows which perks you don't need with certain weapon types? Like for example, I really don't need lightweight as a perk if I'm using a SMG, correct?

I don't normally run high scorestreaks, but I decided to use the Warthog yesterday during hardpoint on Raid. It didn't get a single kill, it flew over multiple times when enemies were outside trying to cap hardpoints too.

It depends on your playstyle. I know people that use lightweight with AR and I use it on one of my LMG classes. It all depends on how much you plan on moving. Sometimes it's worth it for opening rush classes so you can get to mid map before the other team but sometimes you can get away with not using it.

I run flak jacket, toughness, dexterity on almost all my classes. Sometimes I'll run scav instead of toughness. For objective game modes you might want a class w/ ghost instead of flak or in addition to flak or scav.

I can't get this sodding kill chain, it's all I have left for master killer and the game holds no other challenges for me anymore. I've tried both quick class smg, lightweight stock etc for rushing the spawn and slow class, lsat etc for controlling spawn. I've had two megas but nothing more. For those of you that have got it, basically, how? I've been thinking of that demo nuketown spawn trap but that's a real bitch move and not so easy as i'm playing solo.

It's the worst killstreak.

Yeah I figured I'd give it a try since most of Raid is open, can't believe it couldn't manage 1 measely kill. I haven't had a lot of success with the Escort Drone either, but I've only used it like 3 times.

Got a VTOL Warship in Domination a little later and managed 5 kills before being shot down. Haven't bothered trying to get Dogs or Swarm yet.

This has been the first CoD since CoD4 that I've really gotten into and I'm not exactly sure why. There's a certain "slickness" to its presentation and I find the colour variety to be quite refreshing, especially so when going back to the greys of MW3. BLOPS 2 is also the first CoD where I found a play style that works for me - LMGs and launchers. LMGs in the old games were the gun types that I'd never go near, mostly because they would take as many bullets as an AR to get a kill and yet be slower. In this one, more often than not I can get in the right positions and outgun any of the other weapon types. There's something really satisfying about out-sniping snipers and hitting SMGs through walls as they reload. Right now I've just got the HAMR left to get gold for to have the diamond LMG skins.

Other than those things though, it's still CoD so I don't see why it is this one which appeals to me most.

I love the escort drone on any map with small buildings. You get to be in the building either sniping from the windows or holding the doors down, while your escort basically watches all the entrances.

Escort Drone works great for me. Better than Stealth Chopper and only a bit more score to earn. On Nuketown, it absolutely destroys people lol. It gets me triple kills!

The best killstreak setup still is Vsat-Lodestar-Vtol for sure.

It's that time of year again...

New Call of Duty info should be out within the next few weeks. I'm already getting hyped and it's only April. Learning all the new info is half the fun of getting the new games. Considering this will be another Sledgehammer Games production, I'm pretty excited. The night in September when the Black Ops 2 full mutliplayer reveal came out at like 2am was pretty exciting. I'm curious to see how Spec Ops or whatever they bring along will be like.

This time last year, we already had that classified Call of Duty web page that led up to the May 1st reveal. They always start off with campaign stuff, but it's still new and interesting :D

I have a feeling this year's new Call of Duty reveal will be a bit later than usual though :/. Cause the new consoles coming in the fall. May 21st seems to be a realistic date because that's supposedly Microsoft's reveal of the new Xbox.

It's gonna have to be a really good to pull me away from Black Ops II, like.. really good.

I mean the last CoD I bought before it was MW2. and I said to my self "The only way I'll play a new CoD would be a futuristic title" low and behold Acti-blizz was listening from the heavens.

Black Ops III for next Gen would be my most anticipated CoD title.

Ha, same here. I hope they do a 'future warfare' game soon. I'm talking lasers and alien planets future.

Playing tonight, if there is anything I would want in CoD going forward into next-gen, or really any FPS these days, is a wider FoV on consoles. The number of times I've been killed by someone that I should be able to see from where they are standing but can't is has gotten to a ridiculous number.

I'm still relatively new to the COD series, having only played Black Ops 1 and 2 (Along with a tiny bit of World at War Zombies). But for some reason, I'm starting to get a little anxious/hyped over the next title.

I'm becoming what I once hated...

Man, they got rid of A LOT of good spots on Firing Range. Studio is pretty much an inferior version. The most notable spot is probably the sandbags in the middle of the map where the first hardpoint spawns (next to the tower). There aren't any sandbags in that area anymore that you can stand on. They were extremely useful for Search and Destroy opening routes.

There's nothing wrong with that (especially the WAW series). It's a game, and if this game brings you some sort of entertainment and joy as it's supposed to, what's the problem?

Although, personally, I'm not at all hyped for the next title myself, that'll probably change once I see a trailer. I do love COD's campaigns.

Yeah they've removed a lot of head glitches and lines of sight. I said A LOT in that post, but only pointed out that one, cause that is the biggest one IMO. Studio is pretty much a nerfed version of Firing Range. And some headglitches are still there, but the cover is thin wood, so it can be shot through, compared to when they used to be impenetrable sandbags. And yeah it is most likely intentional to encourage more running and gunning or whatever.

So did anyone else play the new Zombie map? I thought it's one of the better maps in BOII besides Nuketown. The easter egg/side mission is actually pretty fun this go around and essential to PaP. Brutus has been a great way to have a zombie boss that's fun, I think. Challenging but not too difficult, either.

The map is pretty easy to maneuver around as well. It's just confusing how it fits into the zombie storyline as a whole, but by itself, it's awesome.

I like it a lot, but I'm shocked you compared it to Nuketown Zombies, since I didn't like that at all.

This map is probably the easiest one to date taking over Ascension's reign. It's a good thing though because when maps are easier, it adds to their longevity. Maps that are too difficult become old/frustrating real quick and are never played again.

The easter egg is also the easiest one to date. The plane isn't really the easter egg (but I'm sure you know that since you completed the DLC :p). But there was no difficulty to the easter egg. It was all just throwing your Hell's Retriever at things and riding the plane pretty much.

I like the fact that there is no universal power switch and that the PaP isn't too difficult to get to. I also like the easiness of it. The fact that you can have 5 wonder weapons at once is ridiculous, as well as a melee weapon for everybody that is a 1hk through round 33 and the Hell's Redeemer which is always a 1HK.

Surprisingly, the most favorite thing for me is the Grief on Cell Block. I'm really high on the leaderboard for that in total wins because I just can't get enough of it. Brutus makes it a lot of fun too, as well as feeding the dog. And I LOVE the fact that there is PhD Flopper on it. That is by far the best perk in Zombies history.

And who knows if it has anything to do with the zombie storyline. Five from BO1 had nothing to do with the storyline and Nuketown Zombies also has nothing to do with it.

What's interesting is that the map packs seem to be spelling out FEAR RUSS.

I know, its not really a problem per-say. I was really anti-COD back in the days of MW2. I told myself I wouldn't buy any of the COD games. Then I played WAW zombies with a friend and got hooked, and learned that Black Ops would have zombies as well. Bought Black Ops, played the multiplayer, got hooked, and the rest is history.

Such truth. It's funny, despite all the newer additions in zombie maps, I feel the same way. The older maps from WAW, Ascension, Kino, Mob, (and Nuketown as a solo runner on that map), are a lot more fun because you don't have to worry about so much. And in the case of Mob, you have an objective, but it's not insanely hard to complete either.

And I see someone has been stalkin' me on TA. =P

Yes! I have yet to grab that Golden Spork and Redeemer. Gonna try later tonight.

Mind blown. So the intro of Die Rise meant that there's more to Russ, huh? I'm game. I do want to see the original characters come back, though. I miss them.

And I think that Nuketown, while not adding to the story, is a nice little side map taking place during the events of Moon, with the whole zombies eyes turn blue and Richtofen takes over at round 25 and whatnot.

Man, I loathe MW2's multiplayer, despite what it brought to the table in terms of what future COD titles had in their multiplayer portions. Loved that campaign to death, though.

Yeah all the WAW maps are definitely classics. Even if you only have an hour or so to play, you could play a Nacht and see how far you could go, which is so much cooler in the BO1 version cause the thundergun and monkey bombs and mule kick :p Maps like Call of the Dead were such a bitch cause you constantly had to worry about resetting George before every round and/or bringing him to water. Pack a Punch would also disappear with your guns in it a lot too >:|

And all your achievement unlocks appear on my homepage since we're on each other friend's lists lol. I still need Brutus to lock everything down. I'm sure it's not that difficult, but I'm always playing to do well and not have my shit fucked up by him haha.

Mind blown. So the intro of Die Rise meant that there's more to Russ, huh? I'm game. I do want to see the original characters come back, though. I miss them.

It's just speculation and theories. There has to be a reason the map packs are spelling this out cause Treyarch always does things like this. It really became apparent after Uprising came out that it could be spelling FEAR RUSS. Who knows, but it definitely is interesting. If the next map pack begins with S, then it's pretty much a done deal.

And I think that Nuketown, while not adding to the story, is a nice little side map taking place during the events of Moon, with the whole zombies eyes turn blue and Richtofen takes over at round 25 and whatnot.

I think I need to give Nuketown another shot since you enjoy it so much. My experiences with it were only through public match (where obvs most people aren't the best) and I don't think I've ever gotten to buying Jugg on it cause idk all the perk spawn locations yet.

EDIT: Damn, just noticed you completed the game again. Idk how you had the patience to complete every single player campaign challenge lol.

This is disappointing. I loved nazi zombies on the older maps, is it still worth playing at this point (survival mode that is). Also, is there a way to turn off the characters voices? Some of the lines they say throughout the round are terrible (especially the female). Haven't bought the game yet, but I'm thinking about it, I really only play zombies.

What's the best Call of Duty multiplayer game right now for the PC? Single-player isn't important, graphics aren't important either, just a polished multiplayer. Looking for a fun, quick pick me up game to be used for short breaks.

Also, I have never owned a Call of Duty game but have played some 360 multiplayer of the various games of the at a friends house and have enjoyed them. I've been playing CS: Source and I think it's time to move on. I still have fun but a little redundant now. Thanks in advance everyone.

Still a rumor, but it's starting to look like Drift0r's source called it, at least the title (minus the next-gen only part, cause I dont expect that to be true at all).

So there is a glitch in Grief on Cell Block that was discovered yesterday that allows players to get off the map (so they can't die, leading to the point that they can't lose). It's extremely frustrating and is now occurring in about 90% of my matches. There is just the occasional game where nobody is doing it. And the sad thing is that it'll probably take until next DLC patch to fix this :/ Even dumber is the fact that there is actually a prompt that comes up saying "Press A to climb," even though it's taking you off the map FFS.

This news has been floating around for a while. I'm not sure why people care what the game is called. They can call it the oddest thing ever, but as long as it's a good game, then who cares. Same with the people who need to know which guns are in the game. Idc what they're called, but rather what they act like. I'm still thinkin May 21st reveal at the Microsoft event. And there''s no way it'll be next generation only.

Also, it's pretty much common sense that it wouldn't be called MW4, so I'm not surprised at all.
