Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer Footage

Is it strange that Black Ops is now a must buy for me thanks to the replay thing ? I love fucking around with that shit, its why i got GTA IV PC in the first place :D
I've had so many "wtf" "no way" "did you see that?!" moments in mw2 and no way to revisit and share them.

So I'm really looking forward to it.

Why is everyone bitching about commando when painkiller is the most horrendous thing ever invented?

Trailer looks awesome to me though, can't bitch about it. New (fun) perks, dynamic maps, recording, niiice.

As long as Treyarch removes painkiller and the nuke I'll be happy.

Not a single thing there is confirmed, so I wouldn't list it as being a part of the game.

We can hope though. Really, I just hope they tone things down from MW2. There was just way too much shit going on that really ruined mp. I'd honestly be happy if they just went back to basic killstreaks.

They're both bad, but everyone has a knife each life and painkiller only lasts 10 seconds.

Anyone else notice the pulse on the players mini-map during the sniper headshot? I wonder what that could be.
Motion mine a la Bad Co 2?

I thought they were, either in an interview or a forum post by one of the devs. I recall reading them coming from an employee...

Those rumors were confirmed on a podcast by a group of well known montage dudes. Apparently someone who works in the game industry keeps in contact with one of them.

Stuff like killstreaks no longer stack, but if you get 2 kills die, then get 1 more kill you'll get your 3 killstreak reward and so on. You get to pick the first 2 perks, and then depending on your chosen perks the game will pick the 3rd. This is to prevent M/L/C builds. No commando, that's all I can really remember from the podcast.

AWM sniper, fuck yeah. Also, notice the coordinates added on the mini-map (B4, C4, etc.)

That's almost worse than stacking killstreaks.

I *love* how now the "One Shot, One Kill" "Buzzkill" "Headshot" stuff is now at the top at the screen. I have no idea why IW felt the need to shove all that stuff in the dead center of the screen.

And Medal of Honor copied it and made it worse.

Why break what sells millions? :lol

I just hope they fixed noob tube spamming, the worst thing to put up with for me in MW2.

The problem is more that Treyarch can't innovate. Fact is there was a lot of great stuff added in MW2 and that stuff would have never been added under Treyarch. Activision would have been happy with heavy sales on a game with little to no innovation and Treyarch won't rock the boat. They're company men through and through and the franchise will stagnate under their watch. I have a feeling it'll be the same with the new Infinity Ward management. Recycling will be the name of the game from here on out.

Looking great to me! Though I wish they showed footage earlier than this. At this rate, they'll show footage of the Wii version past launch. I just want to know that version is solid before I preorder it with the 360 version.

^ yeah its a nice touch. I personally cannot wait to run out of ammo and pick up a weapon with #VAG or ANAL sketched into it.

lol at the haters. Treyarch can't catch a fucking break with GAF!

If it's not "another fucking WW2 game, meh", it's "MW2 expansion pack, lol".

What the hell did you expect from a COD game?

Have Treyarch come out and talk about the "recording" thing yet because my impression from watching that teaser is that it is not saved films like in Halo...I believe it is a perk or equipment to set up a camera on a tripod somewhere that then gives you a picture in picture of that area of the map. Like setting up a security camera to watch your back while sniping, if it records a little bit as well that you can take clips from I guess that is cool.

Yeah, it looks like a CoD game because it is one and Activision has a nice thing going. There's enough fresh ideas that I'm excited for this - more so than when I saw W@W. I like everything I see in there. The gameplay is spiced up - just because it's not an immediately obvious near time setting or locale doesn't make it the same.

If it weren't recording, the red "recording" pop-up wouldn't be there.

That is what it looks like to me, guy who gets the kill has the view of the camera in his top left corner where his radar would be.

I guess if you set up one of those cameras you lose your radar but you can see that one area of the map as a trade off to balance it out.

Edit: Watching it again the person who gets the kill takes it down after killing someone, pretty interesting. I guess you can go ahead and set it up where ever, and record gameplay.

Yeah, it is definitely recording watching it again but only clips it looks like. Won't be like Halo and just give you the option to save an entire match and view it from other perspectives.

Uhm.. actually I wasn't interested the first time I saw this video, but after seeing it a couple more times and reading all the comments (including the hate ones), I think I might actually buy this, but I will have to wait and see what happens with the video editing thing. I'll guess for PS3 it will include an upload-to-youtube system. Otherwise...

Also, I've got quite a few friends on my ps3 that were already planning on buying this game, so at least I'll have friends to play with.

As for the recording, I think some people has things mixed?

The small window that says "recording" at the beginning isn't recording any video that you can actually watch afterwards. The "recording" thing is just a visual effect to make it more credible. But that small window is just to be able to watch what the camera that you set up is looking at.
The recording system to save videos ala Halo is what's shown at the very end of the video, where you get the replay and can change users, move into third person, stop the video, play, rewind, etc..

Did you watch the trailer till the last second? They pan around a guy getting shot with 'take screenshot' and 'record' in the recorder GUI at the bottom.

And judging from the trailer: yes there's also a camera as equipment/a perk. I'm pretty sure the 'REC' indicator is just added for a sense of realism.

So BO is an expansion pack of MW2, which is an expansion pack of MW1?

By GAF standards, yes.

Ehhhh, I may end up getting this. My friends are the super casual COD players and they'll want me to play. That's if they can get me off of FFXIV :D

The record thing can just be there as a design choice to make it seem real nitty gritty like it is a hand held camera ala Kayne and Lynch 2 looking like a youtube video.

Like I said though it might actually record but it looks like one person sets it up in order to get a view in place of their radar, pretty sure someone on the other team can shoot it or disable it.

Check the clip. The recording is over 5 minutes long with option to look around on a free cam view, so this must be the recording of the whole match. The camera on the tripod must be just the PiP.

The UI looks 100 times more professional than MW2 and I'm glad to see dedicated servers returning. I'll grab it some time in the future.

:lol Edited my post but yeah it is definitely recording but I don't think it is to the extent of Halo's saved films.

Dude. It says "RECORD" right there. Next to "SCREENSHOT". So yes, it will most likely be to the extent of Halo's saved films. And if they make so that you can upload those videos to youtube, then it will be (sadly, because I love Halo..) even better.
You can even cut various clips and put them together, change the transition system, etc.. (check the very LAST couple seconds of the video).

EDIT - At the VERY end it also says "UPLOAD CLIP ( 9 SEGMENT..."

EDIT 2 - And at the end when the camera rotates around that guy being killed, that's also being recorded. So yeah, you can actually make "epic" movies within this game. If they make it so that you can upload those videos to youtube or the game's website so everybody can watch it, it could be quite big.

Im actually very interested to see how BO handles fire sharing, Bungie have been pretty generous by giving us 6 free slots to do with as we want. I cant see Activision being so charitable with theyre bandwidth. I almost think that the theatre mode stuff will be for your own use only.

Theres no way Activision will have a render to video/ render to youtube option. Its WAY too expensive - if it exists no doubt it will cost extra.

EDIT: Good catch with the uploading segments thing, if they are giving us a free render to video option that would be insane.

Dedicated Servers for PC
Regional Matchmaking for consoles

MW2 was fun but sloppy. After WAW I have plenty of confidence in Treyarch's abilities.

the whole match is recorded like halo. if you go look at the end of the video, it shows the video at like 4 or 5 mins in of a 9 min video also following the player and not from the viewpoint of the camera.

edit: way beaten lol

...I closed the page after the CoD:BO splash screen popped up so I completely missed this :lol

I hope they balance out the killstreaks. The game is unplayable when someone gets the chopper gunner or the AC 130. So fucking annoying.

Check my edit. It says UPLOAD. So yes, we will be able to upload.

And if they make it so that we can upload it straight to Youtube, they would not need to use their own servers. The conversion is made by the console you're playing with, and uploading is being made by your connection.

Just because Halo doesn't include that, it doesn't mean it can't be done.

As for the bolded part. That makes no sense, sorry. Dunno how it works on the 360, but the PS3 has a few games that have upload-to-youtube system. One of the titles is Noby Noby Boy.. and do you know how much that game costs? Around $6.
So yeah, having the option to render the video and upload to youtube is not expensive. You just have to add the option to your game.

Wait, so the thermal camera isn't a killstreak because it says 'first blood' when he kills the dude looking at it, so what it is, equipment?

I guess so. It would be just like placing a claymore, but you get to see them, not kill them.

I also guess an enemy could just go and destroy the cam with a couple shots.

I assumed that it was going to work like Halo's method, trouble is for Bungie that hundreds of people rendering at once would melt theyre servers. On Bungie.net it actually uses an external server to like play through your film and convert it to a file you can play on your pc. Thats why they charge.

I guess converting and uploading straight to youtube would just be using the youtube servers though? I guess that would work well. I have to ask though, if some games are already doing it, why isnt Bungie?

To convert you would use your console, then once the video is ready, it would upload and once uploaded, Youtube might eventually convert it to whatever video codecs they use on their site. But most of the stress work would be done on your console.

As for why Bungie doesn't have that option, I have no clue. I don't even know if the 360 has that option. I only know on PS3 they made it so that you could easily upload videos to youtube. But then again not many companies are using that.
Right now, the PS3 titles that feature the Youtube Upload option are:

1: Pain
2: pixel junk eden
3: pixel junk shooter
4: Hustle Kings
5: Tom clancys Hawx
6: Burn Zombie Burn
7: Grand turismo 5 (confirmed but not actually released yet).
8: ragdoll kung fu
9: Pixel Junk Monsters
10:Super Sonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars
11: Echochrome. (japan only)
12:WWE SmackDown vs RAW 2010
13: Just Cause 2

And maybe missing some. So yeah, it can be done. And I'd guess it would not be that hard to include that feature on 360. Why didn't they include it, that.. I don't know.

He's this far away and his ballistic knife reticule is red. Note: this is the second guy, so he does not have a loaded ballistic knife, this is just the lunge.

edit: yeah I'll remove this until i get a 60fps video or a better example. May just be the reticle.
