Call of Duty has lost all of the Steam players it gained from the BO6 launch

Hacked to hell. Activision cares more about MTX than fixing the broken and dying game.

Honestly though what do PC players expect? You can not stop the hacking on PC and anyone who thinks there's a way to stop it is delusional. The more popular the game is the more likely it will be hacked it's that simple. Rainbow six siege was ruined for me on PC. Which normally I'd just hop on the console version but R6 on the console just isn't fun and it's not even close to as fun honestly.

Black Ops 6 multiplayer is not that good. It's better than the last few, but far below the actual good games in the series. And the PC hacking is a huge issue.

Anyone who talks about the supremacy of PC gaming ever talks about the hacking but it's a huge a problem that actively turns people off from the games.

I ended up just continuing to play MW2 2022 and BO Cold War instead of paying for the new one.
It would be nice if they move away from this call of duty main game / launcher with all the games being DLC for it and then all the updates and having to restart the game multiple times, etc...

Posters in this thread are assuming that the drop is due to 'hacking', and not due to the fact that BO6 was a pile of shit.

It's a thing you have installed to play Nuketown, and that's about it. It's garbage in every imaginable way, from the industry leadingly aggressive MTX model, to the bright pink guns, to the userbase who are often literally retarded or mentally ill.

fortnite is doing fine on pc, not much hacking if any.

Strange I checked the forniteBR reddit after your comment and I found plenty of people complaining about hacking. I think the thing about Fornite is that it's spread out across so many devices that it can feel like the hacking isn't so bad. Which COD doesn't do with their mobile.

I fail to understand how after so many iterations with serious hacking issues, people are still buying these games in droves (on PC).
A Tully at this point cod needs to be one game like their cod mobile game.its the same thing and I'm suprised people buy these games every year for 70. All they need is all the best fun maps and just make it free to play like cod mobile

Yea but whey do that when you can make a top 3 selling best game of the year every single year guaranteed? Your idea is great for consumers but bad for business

You’re forced to deal with hackers on consoles. You cannot queue for Warzone with crossplay off.
Is that for both PS and Xbox? I remember doing it for PS and had no issues but this was a very long time ago and don't know if they changed it since then. I know at the time Xbox could not do it and I saw a ton of Xbox users complaining about it on their reddit.

dont forget the aggressive sbmm. No millennial guy has a chance against 14y olds who play non-stop, you just dont gain the same muscle memory when you play maybe 2h per day sometimes even skipping. And the moment you gain a bit of experience they put you in lobbies with all the sweats, you just cant have fun.

COD will never die.

But I’m not a fan of any of the current maps outside those available in Face Off.

And the SBMM introduced over the years has reached obnoxious levels and is pretty much ruining MP for many.

BO6 is decent, but Cold War is still the best COD in recent years.

Blops 6 plays a decent game. They dropped the ball with Warzone massively.

Overall the multiplayer in BO6 did a good job, it offers unique maps like Protocol, Rewind. The ranking system and guns are always exciting to progress. The population is super active on console, extra players thanks to things like game pass and cross play.

I have not played COD since the original black ops, I bought it to play Zombies with my brother over the holidays.

What the fuck with those menus and overwhelming amount of information? I barely know where the fuck I am. Everything to sell you shit.

I for one have a ton of fun in both Zombies and multiplayer. I don't feel like cheaters own such an enormous presence. I tend to consistently end up at the top or near either way (I don't use cheats, no Cronus, no nothing). Cheaters are for now less annoying to me than bad maps, shotguns and scorestreaks, so-to-speak.. I'm sure cheating is a big issue in Warzone though, no doubt.

Edit: Yes, I'm playing on PC.

Edit: And no excuses, the developers should do more effort to stop cheating.

Edit: And let's not pretend that console players with Cronuses comparatively is not a big deal. They definitely do an impact.

I too play on PC 99% of the time BUT PC gaming has a huge cheating problem in online games.

What do you expect? We went from COD4 that was one of the best multiplayer shooters of all time, to Nikki Minaj in high heels, rainbow guns, rabbit costumes, SBMM/EOMM, and endless monetization. A launcher within a launcher and one of the most convoluted menu systems in gaming history.

Big companies need to start going after cheat makers. Offline, do what you want, but online you’re damaging other people.

I haven't really encountered hackers at all.

Call of Duty has flaws like excessive microtransactions which makes everyone look like clown, terrible performance issues in menus, poor level selection. But competition for this kind of FPS is really weak: Battlefield 2042, XDefiant, The Finals, Fortnight..

Counter Strike 2 seems to still be thriving but it's bit different kind of game, Rainbow Six Siege goes to same category of sweat FPSing.

Game was horrible. Didn't even finish the campaign.

The most I've ever been into CoD was during the earlier Warzone days. I'll check out Verdansk when it's re-released but the movement is complete garbage again, thanks to Treyarch.

This would be expected as COD is now just shifting players from one release to the next within CoD HQ. The release boost are the players who don't hang around in COD. So technically BO6 didn't help grow CODs audience and I don't think it was expected to?

And of course "Activision" *cough* is more concerned about MTX. They have "players" now which don't contribute to their bottom line without that mtx.

You mean those ‘players’ that pay a monthly subscription as opposed to a few one-off fees? Got you. 🙃

I've given up. I might come back next year if the rumours of all the maps being from Black Ops 2 are true, but beyond that I think I'm done.

Those 'players' who pay a monthly sub don't do so for COD and "Activision" alone, they could be already subbed for years. That engagement is monetised through them having paid the monthly fee AND buying shit through "one off fees" to fund people not paying for a game anymore.

Interesting.

First, subscribers are still players, not ‘players’ as you have opted to quote them as if they are not worthy.

Secondly, I am WELL aware they don’t subscribe just for COD (hence my ‘few one off fees’ comment). However, it is up to Microsoft to keep Gamepass interesting enough that people want to keep paying monthly subscriptions (for that rolling income) and they can only do that by developing and releasing quality games that people will want to play (e.g COD et all).

A lot of people on this forum still seem to be under the illusion that Gamepass subscribers get all these games for free and don’t contribute money to a games development costs. That’s just not how it works (but admittedly - how well it works is only known by Microsoft).

The MTX in COD is not really any worse than it has been for years now (although they have made it harder to keep a battlepass active purely through playing).

I would put money you see this kind of drop on all platforms once the more casual players move on.

Great campaign and fun zombies. Movement is amazing. It's a great cod. They need to do everything they can to stop cheating but I wouldn't be surprised to hear about this kind of drop on any platform.

Fortnite has reached over 14M concurrent users.

Best I could find for COD was half a million on Steam.
As of October 2024, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, released in 2022, still held the record for the highest number of peak concurrent players on Steam out of all the titles in the Call of Duty franchise, having reached almost half a million peak concurrent players within a month of its release.

COD doesn’t hold a candle to Fortnite.

No game holds a candle to Fortnite in terms of player count. Also, this was achieved over music events for Fortnite (Eminem in game performance, etc..).

The maps are shit and the matchmaking is soul-crushing. So it's all for naught.

worthy of what? I just used quotes to differentiate between those players who are just players from subs or f2p and those players who have bought the game on steam. Both are players but one is not equal to the other. One isn't necessarily a paying customer of COD specifically even if they decide to play the game either through sub or f2p warzone. They're an engagement number which they entice into being a paying customer through mtx.

Ok? But this doesn't change the fact that the business model changes and MS would want to monetise that playerbase with an emphasis on engagement and mtx.

I'm not under the illusion that GP is free but when you're putting COD, which normally has no problem selling games, on there you try to monetise those players oustide of game sales. This isn't even specific to GP but the f2p Warzone too.
The MTX in COD is not really any worse than it has been for years now (although they have made it harder to keep a battlepass active purely through playing).
I'd say it is. They've also now added two battlepasses to the game too.

Sound is completely broken, No recoil with 100 round Mag. SBMM takes all the fun out.

I'm solo queuing Ranked for example at Gold 3, and I'm in lobbies with Teams of Iridescent. My team doesn't even have Mics FFS 😂

Itll be number 1 or number 2 most played on console until this years CoD then itll be number 1 or number 2 till next years CoD.

If Modern Warfare III couldnt kill CoD Black Ops 6 certain aint gonna.
People forget MWIII was by all accounts NOT a good game....Black Ops is a good game with a bunch of shit pasted on.
MWIII was a 5 outta 10 game.......mate if it didnt have the CoD sticker that game would be swimming with Concord....which actually reviewed better

Is there any game on console other than Fortnite that actually gives CoD a run for its money?

I really enjoyed what I played on PS5 but fell off it around the middle of December. This typically happens for me when the first season releases. I also tried out the campaign and couldn't see what the buzz was about, I made it 3 missions in before dropping it. The story is the same old shit from what it seems and the gameplay is pretty boring.

EA's sports games. CoD is third on US PSN, NBA is #2, College Football #4, Madden #5, FC #6.

Which is even more impressive when you factor in that they are all are paid games and not F2P so you need PS+ to play MP.

I fail to understand how do people even still want to buy this games in the first place because CoD's are the same every year now more than ever before.
