Call of Duty Vita confirmed for Fall release.

Why would anyone get either version when you can play a better version of the game on a console, with friends who have the console already.

Good point. I cant think of a single advantage a portable handheld would have over the console. Because I know I can buy a 100000000 foot cord and put my console and tv on my back pack..

Regarding the size of the screen. For the people who actually owns or have seen the scree, they will probably agree that its freaking beautiful. Playing on it on the go will be awesome, but I wont buy unless its cloud save or my stats carry over to the console version or its a complete new game for handhelds.

People won't buy a Vita because of Call of Duty. The dudebros ain't gonna choose a downgraded handheld port over the console version any time soon, and they're not gonna choose to play online on a handheld over playing on their 46+ inches TVs. Never going to happen.

Assuming its a straight port of whatever cod is coming this year. What if it followed the example if Burnout Legends: a compilation of popular multiplayer maps, and spec op missions? Closer to what Unit13 is doing, but with a very established series.

Good thing that far from all CoD players are dudebros :)

No Dual Anaolg out of the box

Metroid Prime Hunters says "sup," and "I'm decent but could be better and the touch-screen felt like a mouse more than dual-sticks."

Good luck with your FPS on DS goals for 2012 GAF. lol

lol @ Sony and Nintendo fanboys feeling threatened because CoD is getting a handheld release.
And in before someone calls me a MS fanboy. I'm none of the above.

then it'd be pretty difficult to translate COD's controls to the vita when it's missing 4 buttons. I guess you could map grenades to the touch screen and sprint/knife to the back touch and it might be ok but I think that if there was cross platform play, console players would have the competitive advantage.

I brought this same thing up in a thread a few days back. I dont think people relise how important those analog clicks are to Call of Duty, you run in that game like every other second. Mapping that to a back touch swipe and grenades to the touch screen seem the best way to get around it, but it will still come off as a goofy version of Call of Duty. I really never saw CoD Vita as a killer app like allot people did. Hell, ill be really surprised if they get it running at 60fps.

The only thing that could compel a select few to buy that version over consoles is if it had cross-platform play.

If not I don't see it being something people would buy. I don't really understand why you're taking this seriously; I'm not talking about a select few people on GAF getting it -- I get it, some people want console on the go. I'm talking about the masses, the audience that plays Call of Duty more than the people on GAF. That audience lies on the PS3/360 and that will not change with a Vita title.

Look at it from a handheld enthusiast standpoint. It's more great games for their platform.

Not everybody owns Call of Duty and perhaps you want to play at a friends house that doesn't have a console/PC with Call of Duty. Call of Duty on the Vita would be a convenience, just because it's not convenient for you doesn't mean that it won't be for others.

Who says it'll be downgraded? For all intents and purposes the Vita's technology is damn near the same as its big brother the PS3. Having a full fledged Call of duty experience on the go is an amazing thing to think about, and if Sony and Activision play their cards right this could defiantly end up being a huge success for the Vita.

Metroid Prime Hunters says "sup," and "I'm decent but could be better and the touch-screen felt like a mouse more than dual-sticks."

Metroid primes hunters controls were simple and allowed u to use the ultra cramped arthritis inducing controls.
Everything was on screen outside the shoulder buttons, wouldn't work with most modern FPS.

Yeah. I'm guessing that CoD Vita won't be the same as the console version. Wouldn't surprise me if it's a third person game.

Metroid Prime Hunters is an oldskool FPS, which mainly means that there is no iron sight aim. Using a stylus with iron sight aiming and all the other buttons in addition wont work very well in my opionion.

I would. I have uncharted GA, great game. But to get full uncharted experience you need to play in long sessions to get the mood of the game. I prefer to play my handheld in short spurts. As long as the leveling up is cross play.

I cant imagine many people are saying its going to replace console version. And there was no I gave that impression. Its making that experience mobile. Not one OR the other.

To be honest I meant the average CoD players. They're not going to choose a handheld version over a console version, and they're not going to buy a Vita when they can play a better version on a huge TV with better sound. Thought you people had learned from the PSP. The reason why the PSP tanked in the west was because the games that were targeted towards the west were ports (most of them downgraded ports). Why choose a downgraded handheld version when you can buy a superior console version? Call of Duty might sell fine on the Vita but it won't sell systems.

The same thing could also be said about several of games, Mario Kart for example, but we know that this isnt the case. The average Mario Kart player seem to have no problem playing both the console and handheld version. We dont know if CoD Vita is a straight port or something more of a game of its own.

But it can go both ways for sure, it can end up being very popular and it can end up being not so popular. Only time will tell :)

I think it's very likely it will be the a port of the Wii version, which is the same game as the 360/PS3/PC.

40 million people play Call of Duty. You think 0% of them want a portable version of the game?

Reading this thread it's almost like : "poor Vita, it will get CoD".

Give it a break and enjoy having great games coming for this fantastic handeld.

well for the moment, I don't have a dog in this fight, but it will be very interesting to see just how many people are ready to double-dip into the CoD world. I assume CoD Vita will come at a premium price (closer to $50?) since Activision likes money. How many will choose between their console version and the Vita version? and how many will drop $100+ to get both?

So interesting.

It think it'll be similar...but I wonder what multiplayer will look like. that's the key.

You don't get it, Mario Kart on the 3DS isn't the same as the console version (Mario Kart Wii). If Nintendo released the same games on both Wii and 3DS then yes, but right now no.

I didn't read that from the person you quoted at all. Hell, DS had a part of that pie, pretty insignificant part but still a part...

I have tried it. FIFA's backtouch is clever but I turn it off since I accidentally touch the corners which makes me shoot the ball when I don't intend to.

It's just not comfortable for me.

Like I said, they can set a dead zone near the corners to avoid those accidents.

I think no one expects this to be 60 FPS. It would be pretty cool if they could get close to the console versions at sub-native res and aiming at 30 FPS.

Except the fact it hasn't been confirmed yet?

Really though, what does the 3DS have to do with this thread?
Port assuming is OK as demonstrated by MHT3G and RE:R discussions.

It could. It's CoD.
There are so many things that are CoD. It all depends on the effort and the userbase.

I get it, read the bold part about what i said. But from what i've seen, many seems to argue about the experience itself.

If it was cross plat I could see myself playing some COD MP on the go. It is not the type of game I would sit down and play for long stretches on a monitor/TV that is for sure. Seems like a perfect short burst game if your near some WIFI.

It could be possible for it to run COD with proper concessions. Mortal Kombat Vita had to tone down the polygons and some things, but it manage to look great and it's at 60 fps. It can be argued that fighters are easier to reach 60 fps, but I think it's possible with concessions.

I find it funny that people are hyping up a hypothetical 3DS CoD game as being good, the only reason being because it was announced on the Vita. If it were just announced for the 3DS and Vita wasn't mentioned, the thread would be 60 posts and everybody talking about how it would be shit.

MK went from 720p to whatever it is on PSV too though, BlkOps 2 will be starting at 544p probably.

The only issue I see is the latency when playing over 3G. If you are on vacation or whatever and have WiFi, sweet, but there's a reason the best multi portable games are asynchronous.

Still, I can see a lot of appeal to getting kill streaks on the shitter. Give me a $199 Vita with CoD packed in and I just may bite.

Nintendo fans are special.

They didn't realize that 3ds and vita aim the same target.
The Nintendo DS market is over, smartphone have taken the seat.

3ds aim for games experience close to consoles like the vita.

Mgs , Zelda oot ( remake from a console game ) , street fighter etc..

In Japan, Nintendo even signs With capcom ( mh series ).

SO, a COD for the vita is also a good news like a Mgs 3 on 3ds.

If we do a lttp for portable gaming : the only one advantage of gameboy is NOMAD GAMING.
You Can Go out ( or stay Home) and play Zelda , mario , metroid and So on without a Tv or Being at Home.

Nawadays, some people think there is a meaning, notice for portable gaming.

They don't know when miyamoto san (example) speaks about something : marketing department is not too far from him.

COD may be a good news on any system, if the game is good.

Discussion about : what is a real gaming for portable ? Is a nonsense.

Nintendo fan , Sony fan etc.. Contradicted themselves when "their lovely" friend ( nintendo , Sony etc... ) change their marketing politic.

Friend : visual graphics doesn't seem to be a big deal .
Fan : " Yeah ! "
Friend : visual graphics ftw.
Fan : " Yeah ! "

A good game is a game. That's all !!!

If COD Vita looks good, and has the same MP as the console version, I'll double dip.

So count me in as one of the dude bros who is prepared to buy this game on Vita.

You won't be able to play this over 3G, so that limits you to Wi-Fi. Which for most people would only be available at home.

So it begs the question, why would you choose this over the PS3 version?

So this thread is pretty much everyone arguing over the sales potential of a game we know absolutely nothing about.
Its a COD game, the fuck more do we need to know? Everyone knows the selling points, whats up to debate is whether it will actually sell systems. I see it selling maybe a bit better than the PSP CODs did, or even the portable GTAs for PSP, but certainly nothing to the level of a real system seller like Mario or COD on consoles.

Can someone please detail the demographic they expect this game will reach? So far I hardly see any COD players voicing their interest for it, just a lot of comments about what it will do for the hardware sales from people not really focused on the game side of things.

The dudebros that want ps3/360 graphics cod on the go. How many of them that may be.

Just because they haven't voiced interest doesn't mean they're not interested. There hasn't been a COD before that has even come within one iota of replicating the usual experience on a portable device. It's something most COD players wouldn't even think about to be honest.

If this game actually runs well, has cross-platform play (including MP) and actually gives COD players the incentive to want to get it on the Vita then it could actually push hardware. If it's just a simple basic port then it'll do a bit but it has no chance of being a #gamechanger.

There is almost no way a cross-port of the PS3 version for the Vita would not make some form of profit for Activision. Whether it would be a system seller is kind of a different question. It would honestly probably take less effort than those weird/bad COD games they made for the DS.

Where do you live that Wi-fi is only at home?

I'm an ATT DSL customer, so I have this (8 locations in my zip code):

Non dudebro pswii60 And iphone/pad owner here. If game is good, will buy a vita for it. Combo of lbp, fifa and cod is too much for me to resist. Throw in a good port of skyrim and I'll be in portable gaming heaven! I don't really game much on my iPhone/ipad, but my son does. 3ds has nothing I am interested in. Near console quality cod is a system seller for me!
