GAF's Pleasant Genius
The thing is, gathering PSOs and having a proper shader compilation wen the game loads the first time, it not that hard.
Sackboy released without it. But just a week later, it was fixed in a patch.
Gamers and reviewers called out the studio on the issue and they promptly fixed it.
And Epic has documentation on this process. And there are tutorials on the web.
So when a studio fails on such an important thing, you can be sure it's really incompetence and lazyness.
Or they were rushed by non. Technical people who do not give an f about what they see as short and rate blips and envy games like Pokémon that sell 10 Millions in a sorry state technically.

Totally predictable on the Duenvo performance, they didn't want to miss out on all these day-one sales on PC sadly it's hurting them more than just letting people pirate it. Could've had great reviews on Steam but it's a red wave :messenger_grinning_smiling:

It's Unreal Engine and shader compilation related, not Denuvo.

The only issue I had with the combat is when you take on multiple enemies at once. It's challenging to dodge attacks and move around the environment with multiple enemies attacking you. The lock on system makes it even harder. The story is really good though which got me through the whole game.

The only thing that will save it now is if it sells well, which I doubt due to the PC performance unfortunately.

Maybe the crunch police got to them. Either that or it just needed another delay for a month or so. It's a shame because the game clearly has all the right ingelredients, it just needed that extra bit of polish.

Another game where people cry about something they can avoid by simply not playing the game. You know there are hundreds of games that release every year with minimal/no cutscenes right?
yeah so ? i cant say my opinion just because its negative ? its your opinion more important than mine just because its positive?

Do not let review scores dissuade you. That goes for anybody who was looking forward to the game. Judge for your damn self. I hate to see people skip games over the opinions of 30-70 people out of all the billions of people on the planet. They are not an authority on what you will find fun.
True but at the same time you have to value your money and time. If multiple people are complaining about the same issues it is wise to take note of that.

The complains are a sign that this game might be a better pick up at a discount instead of full price.

Goddamn, I expected 80. Kinda shocking considering how confident these guys came across.

Wonder what Glen and his team think of this, probably like a student that expected high marks but got a low one instead lol.

What I find odd is the low number of reviews still on metacritic. Wondering if there’s some kind of damage control going on.

Could be they realized they had a turd and decided to limit reviews to avoid consumers from realizing it's not a good game, before it's too late.

Well, we still have Dead Space and Re4 Remakes to look forward to.

Surely neither of those will disappoint. Surely...

People keep bringing Alien Isolation over two mainstream reviewers IGN and Gamespot giving 5.9 and 6/10 respectively, but forget that the entire average critic score was actually 8/10, these two were the only big outliers.
And the average for Callisto is 76. The 5s are still outliers no? It doesn’t prove much.

Ign gave 7/10 which is closer with the consensus, Alien Isolation was perhaps the only case where both were the outliers. Plus Alien Isolation was surpassing expectations after the awful Colonial Marines, Callisto on the other hand was hyped.

I was already on the “wait for deep sale” train because of the stupid DLC and PS exclusive content but now I’ll just wait for the inevitable GamePass drop in a year or two and hope the DS remake is actually good 👍

Enough of this "squeeze through tight spot" sections that so many of these fucking AAAA game devs have a hard-on for. It's shitty padding and adds literally nothing but frustration to the user. Garbage.
From now on anything that forces that kind of shit any more than once or twice through the length of a game is an immediate skip for me.

Can someone confirm easy mode is actually easy. I hate hard games and afraid of spending $70 for a game I can’t even beat on easy.

I'm on easy and I feel it is easy, yeah. But, without proper dodging and such, you can be demolished.
Still too early to give you full answer as I'm in second chapter.

When was the last time where release day review embargoes did not end in disappointment?

I mean, that is a massive red flag these days. I can't believe how bad the pc performance is. How is anyone okay with releasing a game in this state? You're a new studio with a new IP and you have one chance to make an impression and you fucking blew it.

Yes it’s getting a bit much. Uncharted, Tomb Raider, A Plague Tale in particular. When they test and play these games don’t they realise it might become monotonous to a player having to repeat things. It’s like the idea of pacing with variety goes out of the window. Copy and paste filling to what they think gives longevity or breaking up the action in a chapter.

I think given the success of Sony first party games others are trying to replicate it in what they see as “cinematic” either walking or the squeeze through gaps moments and it’s getting a bit much.

For what it’s worth the three people I know who have the game are enjoying it.

It’s the lack of big budget horror games. Game has the right atmosphere and the visuals are up there with the best. We haven’t seen a traditional third person horror game with this kind of budget for a while.
Some of the best horror games last few years are games like Amnesia and Outlast and other indie games in the same vein. Big budget games tend to play it too safe for mainstream success.

In terms of sheer horror, nothing really compares to stumbling through Drangleic Castle or the Undead Crypt (DS2) or more recently the interior areas of Elden Ring.

I mean AAA games make perfect action/horror experiences but Im rarely horrified, per definition.

Absolutely with you on that. The Souls games bring true horror out of nowhere. Demon’s Souls 3-2 is to this day the most horrifying level I’ve ever played.

Teacher: Did you do your assignment on how to fix Unreal Engine stutters with the DX12 API?

Devs: Yes...

The assignment:

Alex from DF will tear it a new butthole on his video

I've played 2 hours so far and ... I love it

The atmosphere is simply incredible. Played it on Quality mode and its just ridiculous how beautiful it is, although I felt some drops to mid 20s.

Will play some more on Performance tho to see how it feels.

Combat is different, but feels really good. I can see it being broken with multiple enemies, but we will see. But with only one enemy it just feel good.

Not regretting my purchase at all so far, My opinion may change with time, but this is not a mediocre game at all.

Darn... Another game that saved me 70 Bison Bucks. Gonna wait for a sale or buy it in the next month or so.

This and IGN's reviews of RE 7 and 8 just goes to show one thing: There are certain genres, like survival horror and especially the ones that rely on horror, that if the reviewer don't absolutely love the genre, he will always kind of shit on it. Which is why almost always the review scores of survival horror games are way lower than what I would give

GTAV, Doom 2016, could name a few more.

Good grief. No puzzles? No exploration? One boss? Bad combat? Just corridors full of zombies for eight hours?

Ugh.

The bit at 18:40 is insane. How did they not catch this during development?

I really, really don't understand how these things happen, especially on a game with such a massive budget and dev team.
