Can Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on PC match - and exceed - the PS5 experience?

Damn, no wonder @01011001 committed seppuku. He was on team 5400 RPM drive before the release.
Leaked footage of him enjoying the game on that old and dusty drive, j-j-j-j-j-j-j-u-s-t a l-i-l s-t-u-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-e-r, t-o-o-o-o-o-o-t-e-s f-f-f-f-f-f-f-i-n-n-n-n-n-e-e-e.

This is a decent port, more along the lines of Spider-Man Remastered than TLOU1. It's not without fault, though, and needs some patches more optimization.

Post some with 4+k/60+ fps, RT AO/Shadows, m+kb gunplay, ultrawide on PS5...

Not here with 12GB of VRAM.
show proofs

record live gameplay with ray tracing enabled from the osborn rally campaign scene (no pauses, and the cutscene before that should also be in the same video without any pauses)

show us how your 12 gb vram gpu loads mary jane's leather jacket when even a 3090 cannot

Digital Foundry was OK for comparing console versions back in the day, but once you know how things work you realize how flawed their videos can be.

Enjoy arguing over one texture in the game while the rest of us with good PCs actually enjoy the game.

There is a patch? DF usually waits for day 1 patches and have even redone videos if that is the case.
Patch or not the damage is already done. I was ready to double dip. But, Nah. People looking to get a sweet significant upgrade over the PS5 version will walk away after looking at that video. Until there is another video showing things have improved it’s a game for PC gamers who haven’t already played it on PS5. And many will likely walk away and won’t bother checking if things improve later on. The video is a major hype killer tbh.

PC gaming yet again proving to me not worth the hassle. Imagine paying thousands for a device that can’t destroy ps5 games with ease.

Until devs start building games specifically around it, it’s just silly to invest. Just playing console ports

That’s the perspective of a console gamer.

The reality is PC gamers are playing way more than first party Sony/Xbox games. And power is just part of why people build PCs.

They must be under some embargo or marketing deal because every time there is something slightly wrong on pc, like blocky shadows or disappearing shadow or tiny bit longer loading times, Alex is going out of his way to only comment with "hmm interesting. That's a weird behavior but there will be patches".
I mean, I understand it's not worth critiquing but just something I've noticed.

Looks like DF has their PCs with more problems than usual, like NX gamer.
Could also be a random issue. Textures load fine in one instance, then not fully loading in the next. No way to know without extensive testing. Hopefully the DF video on Friday sheds some light on this.

For the price of a high-end pc you can have both consoles and have money left over. Not to mention that most of the pc games released some time ago have stuttering problems, or come out broken with serious performance problems even in high end pcs or memory problems that end in crashes. So a lot of power but for practical purposes a worse experience, it's useless to have >60 fps if it drops to 1 every moment.

I am also reminded how awesome Dualsense feels in this game. It's so good.
I recommend going to the club in the city at the beginning with that heavy bass and turning off speakers. You will still hear it from controller vibrations! It feels awesome.
if it works on pc, it might be worth getting dualsense boys!

@ 48:44 and various other scenes texture quality is worse on PC. Seems the transitions from one world to another is slower on PC than PS5?

Good thing almost every dev fixes those problems and we can buy it with a massive discount while playing other games on our massive library of games.

I would criticize you by saying that "it's expected we have to wait for patches on pc"
But to say the truth, ps5 version launched without 120hz/40fps modes and without vrr. It was patched in after a month or so and vrr even later.

It’s because it is weird and because there will be patches. What do you think he should say?

It's dynamic 1440p.
not sure if unlocked performance rt mode is lower or still dynamic 1440p. it doesn't look blurry like 1080p or 720p picture

Play it on a monitor and you'll notice it, TVs tend to upscale the image with tricks to make it looks better thus why they have bad response since 2006 HDtvs came out, nowadays it's a lot better with the response lag when playing high refresh rate

The jacket is there on the video and if my memory doesn't fail it was there the time I played too.
well I think you fail to understand (and goes to show how much you understood the problem to begin with)

its not about jacket being there or not, its about the jacket's textures, which you never saw it with all its glory if you've played with ray tracing (and many more textures throughout the game).

cant blame u for not having a reference

in your shared video, you can see in 0:16 that texture barely loads just as the cutscene shifts, whereas ps5 loaded them right at the start of the cutscenes. it takes approx around 7-9 seconds for proper high quality textures to load for a lot of stuff in spiderman's cutscenes with ray tracing enabled

HBAO+ is buggy as well.

you can see some screen space reflections are missing in the right screen.. that is unless you are moving the camera then they come back while moving.. lol

is dualsense working properly in this game? I hate to be bearer of bad news but I had an unlucky discovery with Spiderman. you see, on actual PS5, there are two modes of haptics/adaptives, one with mic muted off and one with mic muted on. by default, most games that support haptic and adaptives lower the intensity of these effects immensely if your mic is on (no orange light).

I have discovered that spiderman on PC operates as if the dualsense's mic is on at all times and effect intensity works based on that. I've even compared them back to back and I was able to confirm. I hope its not the same case with ratched and clank, but if it is so, I will have to stop suggesting/recommending Dsense for PC as mic mode on really neuters the much of the intensity. I'm not saying haptics and adaptives are not good without the intensity but it really takes away a lot as well

You still get cheaper games and not having to pay for online... the high investment pays for itself with all the deals available on PC. Infinite backwards compatibility and a large variety of customization options for your OS. Modding capability and better support for older games thanks to fan patches and mods to make them play superior to remasters and BC on console.

And of course, the reason this thread even exists- we get more games coming to our platform thanks to console companies not being able to ignore the money available on PC. Having the entire library of NES, Master System, SNES, Megadrive, Saturn, PS1, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, Wii, PS3, Wii U, GBA, DS, 3DS, Switch, Arcade systems, all on one platform for around 800-900. Even with the inflated hardware prices compared to 2016 it's still a very good value, IMO

So they never fixed the jacket only as every other textures look the same... Also the PS5 shots are blurrier.

Are u for real?
Lol cmon man. I paly on a 48" oled lg c1 on my desk. I use it as a monitor
what do you think I am stupid and use upscaling/ai crap?! Everything is disabled.
You would know that game optimizer mode on lg c1 disables most of "ai" and upscaling crap. I have sharpness enhancer turned off as well. it doesn't do anything in the background. Ps5 outputs 4k image in any case. there would be nothing to upscale by the tv anyway as pure signal is 4k, no matter if game is running 1080p or 1440p res.
I am getting exactly 100% monitor experience out of that tv... except with lower lag, faster pixel response times, oled blacks and amazing hdr.

We are not talking about playing a game on sony bravia in 2008 here with smooth motion turned on.

before you can counter any of that, look at some reviews. lg c range of tvs is amazing. And I only got 2 years old c1.

Why should I spend $60 for this two year old game that looks worst than the PS5 version no matter how much money in PC hardware I throw at it? This game is absolute ass.
Alex probably played an older version. Here's directly from FAGAMEZ video (4090 as well)

And here to compare with John's PS5

no problem occurs on pretty much randomly on anything

its a fundamental issue that is never fixed. I'm not saying it is an hardware issue, I'm just saying it is never fixed because most of the folks playing on PC probably thinks the textures look like that by default and shrugs it off (considering they think it is a 2018 ps4 game)

Almost every is an overly optimistic statement. Do you know that PS5 is backward compatible with PS4 which has a catalog of thousands of games right? Or Xbox SX which is also backward compatible with a lot of 360 and some xbox orig games right? Which can also be found very cheaply. :messenger_winking:

Yeah afaik, most dualsense pc games have that bug +/or missing one of the haptics layers.
I know about the mic thing on ps5. It even says so in the options. I only learned about it few months after I got the system but I have set mic on dualsense to default to off on console start.
haptics are so strong sometimes, I really like it.
