Can Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on PC match - and exceed - the PS5 experience?

Yeah no issue with the textures on the cutscene over here.

4090/7950x/32gb Ddr5 6000

Disabled motion blur.. Vignette.. Ca..bloom..film grain...vsync

Brought sharpness to 5
FOV 15

Using custom reshade

NvCp settings

Latency set to ultra
Prefered max performance for gpu

oh man wtf pc gamers really have to tweak something just for the sake of it.
At least enable motion blur man ! The animations in this game demand it!

Downloading on my Steamdeck now, only 2 days 13 hours to go lol(on holidays, LTE Internet sux here, dialup speeds)
That's the real major benefit of this port- a Steam Deck version. Now you can basically take the game with you wherever you go.

Sony needs to continue this PC porting initiative. It's replacing the need for them to make a PSP 3.

The reason I usually disable motion blur is because of sickness issues I have most of the time because of the effect.

Might try see if it differs from other games.

if there is a separate option, at leas leave it on for enemy animations

that's a fair point. However it's much harder to get it working on Xbox and it's not guaranteed. not to mention not all emulators are available on Retroarch, like Yuzu. and Ryujinx.

PLus you'd need to pay 20 for a dev account to get one, on PC it's entirely free.

Also, on Xbox you'd have to emulate older games that already have a PC port. Re-Volt for example has a PC version Via RVGL that cannot be played on xbox because there is no existing port. Doesn't sound like a big deal until you realize that RVGL has more current online play, modding capabilities, tournaments, etc. Or Mario 64, which you'd have to play via a browser/N64 emulator on Xbox meanwhile there's a native PC version available, with cheats, mods, graphical enhancements, and achievements. There's a LOT of situations like this.
Yes, all that is true, but I get tired of people who still act as if consoles are as limited in catalog and possibilities as they were decades ago. Nowadays practically any game that has a minimum of quality (understanding by "quality" games that are not directly a rip-off) is ported to console, even low budget indie games.

And even with limitations (or need for alternative methods), consoles can be great retro devices today.

I love retro games and PC, but the elitism of PC gamers sometimes makes me cringe.

It's not off its that the photomode settings takes it off by default.. Here it is with it on.

So I never even knew who Nixxes was before they were acquired by PlayStation... Once that happened I've only heard things like "they're wizards at porting" or that they are "one of the best at porting games to PC" on this forum.

Apparently, you guys weren't lying. I can't even imagine how difficult it was to reverse engineer and refine all that data to work on so many different configurations. Pretty damn good pick up by Sony. No way in hell PS games would be decent on PC if it was PlayStation studios making the ports.

Honestly it feels very limited to me. There still isn't a console port for DUSK or Amid Evil for ps/xbox, can you believe that!?

Pushed by 64 GB of RAM, 24 GB of VRAM, RTX 4090, (very likely) powerful CPU and using preload while still being significantly slower with stutter.
Because you want the drive to be the bottleneck and of course it's still significantly slower, it's an HDD. An old SATA SSD is still like 10x faster.

And this game at 120fps on an OLED looks incredible. I can probably push 165Hz and reach my frame rate cap with frame generation.

It really is a looker but damn shame about the broken effects. I really wonder what it'd look like with path tracing like Cyberpunk.

I think it was them who did the PS4 version of Tomb Raider.

Big time, this is the perfect game(obviously not played this one yet but rachet and clank in general) for steam deck, sitting on a balcony on vacation with a beer chilling....perfect.

Had to put it on the SSD, lol, let's see!

All this hardware for a game that doesn't come close to maxing PS5 I/O.
I mean, will anything at this rate? Not even Naughty Dog are pushing the PS5's I/O.

God, i can imagine relaxing at a hotel on a comfy bed playing games like this and returnal on the go.... Valve really did us a good one with that system, the fact you can have such a big budget game like Rift Apart running in the palm in your hand, it's wacky!

(And yes, i know i sound like i'm sponsored here. IDGAF. The Deck is and will always be an awesome machine)

Are you kidding me?
Alex spends good 2 minutes going... "eee, maybe it looks different? I don't know" "are my settings right, maybe I changed something"
And textures never load. He almost sounds like Elon Musk when the tesla window broken. You know, like a person selling you something but then there is a big scratch on it "oh is there a scratch? oh yeah maybe it... no problem it will buff out"
I mean YEAH he acknowledges it finally but he sounds a bit apologetic maybe?

And that's low res compared to RT performance mode on ps5. I am sure 4k mode looks even better on ps5.

Yes and it is weird, is it not? And it will be patched, don’t you think?
I don’t know what you expect from a video they did on the fly just to be first and to get clicks. You can always post a better description to him on Twitter and maybe he’ll put it in the real video he said he was doing.

Bought this on a whim on CDkeys just to "check the technical marvel" and boy, I'm having regrets already.
Yeah, it's EXTREMELY pretty, it runs well and no weird texture fuckery here (I swear Alex Battaglia would experience technical problems on his PC even opening the fucking Notepad at this point)... But I'm not really feeling the game.

I went through the whole tutorial/long intro until the title drop and while I was distractedly mashing buttons while things kept exploding, all I could think was "I want to go back to play Jagged Alliance 3".

There are already several videos rolling on the Net running on hdd, that is, you don't need a special SSD as some people spread around. And whoever uses the excuse of optimization, it is clear that the Ps5 will run better than hundreds of PCs with different configurations. But that doesn't change the fact that if Dev was interested, this game would run smoothly on PCs.

Game files can litteraly be in the RAM.

But that's a stupid comparison... I mean... you have enough money to buy RTX 4090 / i9 / 64 GB, but playing on HDD?

Comparison is more fair with "budget setup", like 1660Ti / i3 / 8GB RAM

It's an unrealistic test because I doubt anyone is actually using a configuration like that, but it is helpful as a proof of concept. It's similar to why testing high end GPUs at 1080p is unrealistic for real world scenarios (because hardly anyone is gaming at 1080p on a 4090) but it's also helpful to identify CPU bottlenecks, analyze relative performance, and extrapolate future performance.

But you need Direct Storage and RTXIO to help it "run" on HDD. So you NEED something else "special" to even getting this out of it. Mark Cerny and Insomniac were right from the beginning.

The PS5 I/O subsystem is what helps the internal 5.5GB/s SSD to achieve this level of performance.

Tested it on an external HDD, performs well compared to what Sony said about the game needing ssd to run

That 47 fps dip... Yikes might want to lock it at 30 and get that smooth cinematic feel until the 5090 comes out./s I do hate stutters more than low frame rates though.

No, this game can run on any decent ssd, the Ps5 ssd is not magic as many claimed. The fact that it's currently running on PCs is already a huge blow to Sony fans. If you want to continue believing in this PR bullshit, as well as those who said that PS games would never come out for PC, the choice is yours.

Some Steam Deck footage. Had to play at 16:9 because of a finicky capture card. Default Deck settings otherwise, so Medium Preset, Low Shadows, SSAO On, High Screen Space Reflections, dynamic FSR 2.1 with 30fps threshold. Played with vsync off, instead using the Deck built-in limiter. The opening scene struggles a bit with the huge crowd, but other than that it ran really well. I think this is like Spider-Man Remastered where it's memory bandwidth and CPU-limited, so at "Deck settings" it will run almost the same at higher resolution like 1080p(FSR2). I only played a small segment at 1080p, but it was hitting pretty much the same frame rate as 720p. Will have to do more extensive testing later.

Yep is weird because DUSK is on switch (is a great port) and Amid Evil on quest 2 in a VR version (love this version), but not on PS/XB consoles

Yeah it's not like they were talking about the PS4, right? Nah, can't be.
It's also faster on PS5 than their SSDs.

So why does it need Direct Storage or why is RTXIO developed for then? You really don't even know what the fuck your talking about.

You had 3 years to educate yourself over this.

You failed!

Tag, you're it.
Some gameplay with my FPS counter, 4K maxed out with RT effects maxed out as well. Streaming takes 15-20 FPS at least. The audio is bugged IDK why but in game it's perfect :(
RTX 4090/13700K/32Go DDR5/Firecuda 530

Not perfect but the game is looking incredible

Yeah just to confirm, I relaunched it on ps5.
4k40 fidelity rt mode is unlocked and feels like maybe 50. Custom lfc within vrr so my tv doesn’t show fps. But it looks and feels awesome. I really need to replay this.

So there is little to no reason they picked performance rt mode for this comparison.

not to intrude, but he literally says 15 seconds after your timestamp that "it wouldn't have been possible without the solid state drive of the ps5"
