Canadian Gaming Deals and Discussion Thread 7: More Shipping Talk than Anime & TV GAF

Looks like Staples' price for the Prismacolors went back up, ending the $10 discount. Now they're $33+ instead of $23+, which is too much for me to justify buying another set right now.

I did notice that Staples seems to price match Amazon, though. Is that true?

Amazon has them on sale for $23.26, but I have no idea of when it ends. It could maybe end with Prime Day at 3am? The Prime deal is them and a pencil sharpener for $19.99, though.

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/PRISMACOLO/

I'm hoping to bring my phone in, show Staples the price on Amazon, and buy them for that price tomorrow.

I assumed that the Staples price would be good until the new flyer came out, but I guess not.

I just spent $320 while laying in bed using my cellphone. Gonna wake up with a nasty buyers remorse hangover.

Instant Pot
Sandisk SDD
Bose earphones
Power bank
Travel charger

All stuff I needed and 30-50% off so I'm happy

Which power bank and charger?

I feel like next thread needs a "Stop buying things from Play Asia" warning.

Still waiting on doax3 pre-order.

COWABUNGA Deal!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:The Complete Series

50 bucks!

I kinda don't want that TMNT set because of the box. As cool as it is, I'm all about consistent, easy to place on my bookshelf packaging these days -_-

Great price though.

Nice! Grabbed the TMNT box along with Pokemon Red & Blue box set. I agree with the concerns about the box shape though, my apartment is already stupid cluttered :(

Prime Day was decent this year:
Ended up grabbing a bunch of jeans (Levis and 7 For All Mankind) that I will pick one or two pairs from and return the rest.
Got Seinfeld complete DVD box for $40
Some small thumb drives for my parents to back up their photos on.

Better than last year, that's for sure.

So a package of mine from Purolator arrived at the Sort Facility in Toronto on Monday, was supposed to be delivered yesterday, hasn't moved and is now
Estimated Time of Delivery
Not Available

Welp.
I mean I'm in no rush to get this particular package, but Purolator has never failed me until now.

So that RX480 from memory express, I'm told by their CS that what I did was a pre-order (for a restock?)

Welp, guess I just have to sit for a while.

I had this happen with a package from Purolator that came from Vancouver to Toronto and was supposed to be delivered but then changed to not available. I used their live chat to ask about it and they ended up opening a ticket with a tracing specialist and the next day the package was shipping out of Calgary. I can only assume it got mis-sorted in Toronto.

If you dont notice any activity I recommend using their online chat to inquire about it.

I was going to pick up the Disney Infinity 3.0 (PS4) at Best Buy for $19, but it's not anywhere on their website. I know Amazon is also selling the game at that price point, but I can't buy anything on there. Other stores like EB Games and Wal-Mart will surely start dipping that low too soon, right? Being that the series has been cancelled and whatnot.

Don't be shocked if you get an update on your tracking page saying "Delayed in transit" in a day or two. They're experiencing delays all over the place because of the Canada Post strike.

Anyone familiar with ordering things from The Source?

I used the "Standard Ship to my door" method and it said my estimated delivery date was today. Yesterday my order was "In Process," but today the order details were updated with a receipt and a "Shipped" status.

I'm kind of worried because I was away for part of the day. Do they usually leave things at your door if you're not there, or do they leave a failed delivery notice? Also, do they use a specific private courier?

Companies that don't provide tracking info are the worst. Shipping anxiety makes me nauseous. I'm probably just being impatient.

I buy a lot of stuff from The Source and always get tracking numbers via email. I haven't ordered from them during the possible postal outage but they usually use Canada Post.

Damn, thanks.

Definitely no tracking info, either in my email or on the website. I wonder if they're using some alternate shipping method for the time being until the postal shit clears up. They do have messages on their website about how it won't affect them.

They have a live chat that is pretty helpful and you can also call them. For the record, most of their stuff ships from Barrie / Toronto.

They use Canada Post when there isn't a potential strike upcoming and it's usually really quick.

The last thing I bought from them shipped via Purolator though. It took a week longer than it was supposed to due to various delays. It was after 8PM when it did show up and the driver said it's crazy right now for them. I think you can request a second attempt if you miss delivery the first day btw so don't worry too much.

If it's shipped you should see a tracking # near the bottom left of your order details page.

Okay, so this is seriously off-topic, but I'm looking at a cross-country move next month, and I'm trying to figure out how to get my shit across the country. Has anyone shipped with Greyhound before?

How much are you shipping? I haven't used Greyhound, but I have moved cross-country. My suggestion would be to comparison shop with at least 5 different places if you're moving stuff like furniture. You would be surprised at how cheap freight shipping can be. If you're going from Central-East to the West then it may be even cheaper. They're moving a lot more stuff out of the West then they're taking back I'd imagine.

Rent a U-Haul?

Most people suggest this. It's terrible advice based on local moves. U-Haul is stupid expensive once you leave the province. It cost me about $2500 to have a freight company move my apartment from Ontario to Alberta. That included them packing my stuff and insurance. U-Haul was about $3000 and that doesn't include the gas you'll need. Not to mention you have to drive one of those death traps across the country.

I agree. And UHauls only give you a token amount of free KM then charge you. I looked into it for my upcoming move and it was $3300 before gas, just for the truck. It's actually cheaper by $700 for me to rent a commercial van from a reliable fleet, drive the two days, drop off my stuff, drive back, and fly home.

Walmart still sells Wii games such as Metroid:Other M for full price. I really can't see them dropping the 3.0 price soon considering they still sell the 3DS 1.0 edition for it's original price and EB Games has lots of used figures to sell so I don't think they'll want to drop it either. Your best bet might be Toys R Us or finding a way to get someone to order it for you from Amazon.

Oh man. I guess I'll go out quickly and pick up an Amazon gift card, since the deal ends tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.

Depends on what you like I guess. There are still lots of good value beers that I like, stuff that would cost as much or more south of the border or in Europe.

Micro-brews all the way. :)

I go cheap, but even then it's expensive. I miss the days of two-four for $24. I used to get James Ready or Maclay's for that price.

I almost bought Blue today, because it was cheap at $32, but went with Maclay's instead. I haven't had it in a while.

I don't buy booze often, but have liked having one at night. I bought a case a couple of months ago, and it was JR, for the same price. But now James Ready is $33-34.

I bought 7th Dragon and got the shipment email Sunday (?) and it's been sitting on "label printed" since Monday. So yeah, something weird's happening.

Upper Canada Lager is my go-to cheap beer. And hell, a few years ago it was actually sort of a premium domestic brand. I don't know why or how they slashed its price, but I wasn't about to start complaining.

Anyone experiencing huge delays with Purolator lately?

Yep. I ordered some clothes online and they've been stuck in limbo at a sorting warehouse here in Toronto for almost a week now, but it's still expected to arrive tomorrow. I guess I should call them Friday at the latest then.
