I'm getting the feeling that lots of these websites who do projections are using "fuzzy math"

I don't get how The Star can project 17 Conservative seats in Quebec. That is like +12 from the current count, which is too much

The CPC is sending this to people. It's about the niqab.
https://twitter.com/LordYukYuk/status/654161056865107968

There is literally no useful political information that is being presented in this ad. It's literally "Hey, remember how we don't like people who wear niqabs? Here's a quote that might resonate with you about that. Vote for me!".

Nothing actionable, nothing valuable, nothing informative, just the idle, offensive musings of our PM.

17 is abnormally high, their support is concentrated in specific pockets but not widespread enough overall to get many more than 12 max
exactly
oh well we will all be here looking at numbers come election day

I guess the niqab thing is fizzling out and this is a desperate attempt to keep it going.
they're trying to currently toss in a bunch of things (of fear) and trying to make it stick

Quito Magi (of Mainstreet) is calling the election for a Liberal majority with their final poll to be released tomorrow, apparently:

Mainstreet was the first to call the Alberta election for NDP majority, for whatever that's worth, but they have no pedigree in federal election polling afaik. The fact that they're not polling the last week seems like a bad decision to me, but...

Personally I hope they're wrong and it's a minority, because I still think they need the NDP to hold their feet to the fire.

Wow... that would be fucking unbelievable if it did happen. I would literally have to slap myself to make sure I wasn't asleep. Not only would we have our first ever election where someone went from 3rd to 1st, but it would be a Majority to boot.

That said, not sure how I would feel about that, sure we would get alot of progressive shit done immediately, and we would be able to fix everything Harper did in a month or two, but I feel like a Minority situation is the only one where we would be able to move forward on Electoral Reform, if only because we can hold feet to the fire and ensure we get a good system (MMP) out of the deal.

Yeah, a Liberal majority would not be good news.

Tory Punjabi, Mandarin, Cantonese media ads say Liberals will put brothels and safe injection sites in neighbourhoods

Didn't Mainstreet do pretty well in the Ontario election? Or am I misremembering

Yea, they predicted a Wynne majority the day before the election and not many people believed them (I kind of did based on how the PCs were acting in the final week of the campaign)

http://www.mainstreettechnologies.ca/mainstreets-ontario-election-prediciton/

They made that prediction, but it doesn't seem like they did any polling.

I also just noticed that they have the liberal candidate at 24% in St. Albert-Edmonton and the independent at 10%. A lot of the riding polls recently released for that riding have the independent around 23% or 24% in that riding.I think their projections are being a bit to nice to some parties like the Liberals in certain regions like Quebec.

If that pollster is so confident in a Liberal majority does that mean their final poll numbers show the Liberals above 40%?

Theoretically a majority could result from one party in the mid to high 30s and two other parties close to each other in the 20s. Such a result would hopefully demonstrate the necessity of proportionality even more than the last 25 years of Canadian electoral politics have.

That would be crazy, but kinda bad in it's own way because the opposition would be useless in parliament again.

The only problem is the efficiency of the liberal vote may actually prevent them from getting a majority. They would need around 40% in the polls to get a majority if nothing changes right now.

They also called the Alberta election less than a week before election day.

The Liberal momentum is definitely real :)

I won't believe it until I see the results come in live Tuesday morning(I'm in Korea right now, so I'll be watching intently at work :p)

I know, but it's traditionally 40%

If I were a pollster I wouldn't dare put my reputation on the line unless one party was above 40, or maybe at 39

I know some people would prefer a Liberal minority supported by the NDP to keep them honest (or vice-versa) but I'd prefer a Liberal (or NDP) majority myself.

I don't want to live with the existential fear of the supporting party toppling the government in a perceived moment of weakness only to have miscalculated giving us another Conservative government.

Yea Im down for a progressive majority government. Hopefully if the Liberals do get a majority, they keep their promise and get electoral reform done. NDP majority would have been better for that but we'll see what the Liberals actually do.

So one thing that hasn't been brought up much this election, if at all, is the price of groceries steadily rising during Harper's reign as PM:

http://www.statcan.gc.ca/tables-tableaux/sum-som/l01/cst01/econ155a-eng.htm

Would be nice to not have to pay an absurd amount for basic groceries like it used to be in the past.
But the Conservatives are good for the economy? That's what I've been told.
And, we all naturally get paid 25-30% more at our jobs than we did 4 years ago to account for the price increase.
And these prices will clearly trend lower once the dollar stabilizes against the US. It's just an inflation blip... not actual inflation.

Instead of this stuff let's talk about women's headwear and how immigrants are threatening our livelihood and how Trudeau will unleash the armageddon due to how unprepared he is for the job (the NDP should not have played ball with the Conservatives blatant anti-Liberal lies and propaganda as it just made them come off as no better than the Tories).

Trying to make them forget that the Tories think they're second class citizens and will deport their asses for so much as jaywalking

Sure, if jaywalking is suddenly an offence under Section 83 of the Criminal Code and punishable by imprisonment for more than five years. :p

Today's Nanos!

Liberals lead in Ontario 45-32 over the Conservatives.

Reminder: they're saying it in English, too. I'm skeptical that the Liberals are headed for a majority, but if this is the Conservative message in the last week of the campaign, it may not be crazy.

It probably hasn't been brought up because no one can change it -- if the dollar continues to slide, imported goods will either keep rising in price or offer less value (i.e. sizes are going to start shrinking). I don't think anyone wants to campaign on reducing grocery bills when they know it wouldn't happen.

The only way I'd be happy with a Liberal majority is with NDP as the official opposition.

...

I'm not going to be happy, I know.
