Canadian General Election (OT) - #elxn42: October 19, 2015

Is there anyone in here who wants Harper to be reelected? We seem to all be anti-Harper and I like that. If only Canada was more like Gaf.

There have been a couple of pro-Harper posters in here. One who lives in the UK who likes spouting nonsense talking points, and a couple of people who've drive-by posted their support and then never returned.

But on the whole, I think Boogie is the most conservative regular poster, and even he's fairly centrist.

Going by Twitter, Trudeau is getting by far the most response so far:

In the first hour of #debatdeschefs, @justintrudeau was mentioned on Twitter more than the other four #elxn42 leaders combined #cdnpoli

Isn't this the definition of a troll?

It's common knowledge that it left a dark mark on our history, acting as if you didn't know is fucking disgusting.

Here it is. More than one month ago.
In my high school (Manitoba), we only had one Canadian history course which was taught in grade 11. We went from the early days in New France to WW1 with Arthur Curry and Vimy Ridge. We barely covered WWII and that was it. I remember getting sidetracked and reading ahead in the textbook. It covered the Korean War, the Cold War and I think that was it. FLQ was not mentioned at all in that book or in all my years of schooling.

I graduated in 2013 so it was recent.
Stop being so combative.

No, it's not just you. I've always found this to be true even in the English debates. Trudeau just seems less confident, less comfortable with his ability to improvise and react to whatever is happening, so he always sticks to the same lines. I bet he's going to use the "If you want to know if someone's ready, ask them what they're going to do with the job" again to conclude.

I also hate how he always uses the middle class as an argument. It's such blatant pandering when you consider that way more people consider themselves middle class than there really are middle class people...it all looks so strategic, so calculated, it makes me sick because Trudeau would probably be the most convincing if he were to actually say what he thinks. Liberals have the most sensible position on many issues, but he's unable to convey this.
Yeah, agreed completely. Sometimes he says things that are perfectly sensible but he says it in such a phony way that it makes my skin crawl.

HAHAHA @ Duceppe lambasting Harper about Saudi Arabia. Good on him. Harper was completely stumped.

Man I wish Duceppe wasn't a separatist, he's a smart guy and asks Harper the tough questions.

Harper totally sidestepped the Saudi question.

It's easier to debate when you're just in there as an agent of chaos and have nothing to lose. He's always been incredible in debates, French and English.

Duceppe makes me want to vote for him now.

Saudi Arabia is one of the worst human rights violators. Canada sells arms and vehicles to Saudi Arabia.

Harper talks about fighting terror while Canada still does business with the biggest exporter of state sponsored terror: Saudi Arabia

As someone else who went to school in Manitoba (North End in Winnipeg), I can corroborate that Canadian history was overwhelming focused on pre-1900 events. My schools were broke as shit and generally garbage, though.

Duceppe has always been a fantastic speaker. He's smart. If he'd apply his charisma and intellect for a party that could win the elections, he'd get massive votes.

Duceppe's doing a good job, but is it just me or does he kinda look like Bonhomme?

This debate seems a lot more civilized than the English ones.

Though maybe using that G&M debate as a standard for anything other than "giant debacles" is a mistake.

Duceppe is speaking what we're all thinking, right now. And lol at Harper "accepting" someone who isn't a Canadian citizen. What about that reporter in Egypt? Wasn't he Canadian?

I had no idea about the Saudi Arabia thing.

This needs to get out.

I've seen it bubbling around Twitter a little for the last few weeks, but never looked into it. Suddenly that Munk debate may generate a lot more controversy.

Not that Canadians actually vote based on foreign policy, but still: anything that shakes Harper is good.

I don't see how not selling stuff to Saudi Arabia will stop them from decapitating people.

Backwards thinking, you might as well say "I don't see how imposing sanctions on North Korea will make them get rid of their nukes"

It should be national policy to not deal with barbaric backwards countries.
