Captain America 3 to square off against Batman/Superman in 2016

Some fans have spent so much time following these continuities that they just can't fathom someone new being able to understand it without doing homework.

I know. It's like - these stories and characters AREN'T that complicated. They're just not.

Now, X-Men: Days of Future Past? I can see where that might get sticky. But something as straightforward as "a bunch of superpeople team up and fight bad guys?"

It's basic. REALLY basic. It's not Song of Ice and Fire or whatever. And even THAT is pretty easy to follow for people who have never even read a single book.

edit: I missed why Snyder's writing abilities are being brought up - this is essentially Terrio's script now. Goyer's gone. This is going to be a movie based on a Goyer story, written by the guy who won an Oscar for Argo.

Maybe because his movies aren't all that good? Or are "actual fans" not supposed to care about that and only fixate on what the costumes look like?
I'd say the aesthetics is half the battle with most fans. Once you get the look right, the voices right, and an accurate vibe or atmosphere to that of the comic pages, fans will appreciate it whereas someone else might not care or get it.

Despite being the most critically acclaimed set of comic films ever, the Nolan trilogy has harsh criticism among fans, all stemming from his vision of realism over staying true to the source material. Some fans think Batman's voice is dumb, should be more like Conroy. Most fans agree that Nolan's Gotham sucks (especially in the sequels), it's just a real life city with no originality or fantasy. Pretty much everyone agrees that the fight choreography is bad.

As evidenced by 300, Watchmen, and Man of Steel, Snyder will fix all this and then some. For the most part, as a fan, watching the source material come to life is all I want out of comic book movies.

Yeah...if Cap2 turns out to be really good and box office hit, it's BvS that will end up moving.

I actually think if Cap2 is great/huge, WB will push out images of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman within a week of Caps release.
They will consider buming BvS up or back for a few months, then do it very low key probably after SDCC.

Yeah, this is completely absurd. You're entitled to what you do and don't want out of these of movies of course, but the idea that comic book accuracy in these movies is more important than quality kind of undermines the whole conceit of the genre.

My point was that getting all that right greatly improves the quality of the movie from a fan's perspective. How doesn't that make sense?

The Nolan movies as amazing as they are just are seriously lacking in the fun department.
Begins is still my favorite because it had the quality and the fun that was lacking in TDK.

if cap 2 gets a nice post Avengers boost and gets featured heavily in A2, i think DC is the one that would get cold feet since they need the $ for that movie more than Marvel does.

Understood. An impressive Gotham and better action scenes would've made the whole series more fun.

Begins had the best Gotham, but it still wasn't close.

My biggest gripe with Nolan's Batman is that i don't care one bit about Batman. The Joker overshadowed him hard in TDK and he was incredibly bland in TDKR, heck he was gone for like half the movie. He was almost the least interesting character in that series.

(to be fair, I haven't watched Begins in a while )

And TDK had the tension that was lacking in begins

While the film kinda dropped once the boat scene started, that whole joker interrogation scene leading up to Rachel's death was the best thing about the trilogy

Nothing in mcu films or man of steel was as exciting as that was in theatres.

As tense, maybe. Exciting? Maybe not.

Because Snyder is a mediocre to bad director, so him nailing the aesthetics is kind of a hollow victory if, like, the storytelling itself isn't up to par.

Also, I think your argument applies more to a niche group of fans, than superhero fans as a whole. I mean, I'm a fan too and I'm totally cool with the movies taking liberties if it's for the better. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Either way, I, as a fan, don't think that accuracy should take priority over the strength of the talent involved.

I think Supes/Bats has the gross in the big. But being a better movie is a different story. Sadly i wouldn't be surprised if BvS doesn't cross a billion.

The trainwreck will be delayed. Mark my words.
It'll move up if anything.

Well, we disagree there. I think he's pretty much perfect for this genre specifically.

Am I the only one that thought MoS was great? I was expecting a summer action flick that I was hoping would be light on origin story and big on crazy action, and that's what I got.

No it actually made over 200 million more worldwide.

Ah, so it did. I vaguely remember looking into it around release, so maybe I'm thinking critical response/rotten tomato scores. (77% versus 65%).

Either way, Cap'n America 2 isn't even out yet, so this is all just a bunch of prick waving. I didn't find the original film to be terribly good and forgot the second one was a spring release up until this week.

Nope...

It was the Superman film we needed, but obviously not the one we deserved.

I thought it was drab and dull. The best part was seeing Elliot Stabler joining the army after he left SVU.

I would say MoS is one of the worst superhero movies I've seen in recent memory. It's not as bad as Green Lantern but it was bad. An ugly, dull, sterile, boring film with no personality. That is the opposite of what Superman should be.

Those buildings blew up good though.

MoS is a clear case of studio execs not wanting to put in the character work and just skipping to the desserts.

man of steel was a mess. but it had it's moments. would put it above marvel movies not named iron man 1/3 or avengers.

I would only put it above Iron Man 2 and Hulk.... Maybe.

I thought it was drab and dull.

Odd choice of words, but to each their own.

Man of Steel had a fantastic score, the best comic book film acting in ages, and some genuinely spectacular action scenes. It had a good amount of balls most PG-13 films tend to lack these days, but I still wish the final 5-10 minutes had a more concrete message.

True,
and based on just seeing it one time in theaters TDK is one of my best movies of all time. however because the majority of the movie was suspense based I like it less every time I rewatch it.
Quality wise its probably the best but the enjoyment is a problem after a couple viewings imo.

While 89, Returns, Begins and TDKR all hold up relatively well on rewatches.

My biggest gripe with Nolan's Batman is that i don't care one bit about Batman. The Joker overshadowed him hard in TDK and he was incredibly bland in TDKR, heck he was gone for like half the movie. He was almost the least interesting character in that series.

Begins was the right amount of Batman an Bruce, TDK was like 90% Joker, and TDKR was mainly Bruce

So what does this mean for Thor 3? In 2017/2018? A Doctor Strange movie rumored for 2016 right?

The rumor is either Doctor Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in July 2016. Guardians 2 was even rumored for May before the Cap announcement, as they'll probably do a Guardians sequel before Avengers 3 to set up THE GAUNTLET

I believe Marvel is confident in GotG, but not so confident that they'd greenlight and announce a sequel before the first film even opens. It's their riskiest film to date and they know it.

I think Batman/Superman will be pretty good.

1. Snyder can direct.
2. Snyder stays fairly close to comics
3. Goyer isn't writing
4. Based Affleck brought a good writer.
5. Goyer isn't writing.

Why do some people keep acting as if MoS was a flop? It did better than the first movie of all the recent single super hero movies, so I'm i missing something?

Anyway Captain America looks much better than the first movie just from the trailers and that's why it has so much good will. I feel like I'm going to be let down by it being another setup movie for the next team movie though.

I will likely go see Cap 3 and MoS 2 and hope they both do well enough that sequels get made.Picking the same date is a great marketing move though. Captain America isn't as popular so I'm expecting Cap 3 to have Wolverine in it or something.

MoS wasn't a flop but it wasn't a success once you start looking at the budget.

The movie is hated critically and with all the PR and timing, should of hit 700-750 million.

I am sorry but MoS was worse than Thor 1 and Cap 1.

Most people agree as well as shown by RT/MC.

It's crazy thinking about how far away these movies are. The hype for Man of Steel 2 (or whatever it's called) is going to be huge. Man of Steel may have gotten a mixed reaction, but it still made bank and kept the character in public focus. People will pay to see a movie with Superman and Batman unless for some reason word of mouth is awful.

The movie is hated critically

No it isn't. Again, this is a nice narrative to buy for whatever reason, but it's middle-of-the-road, critically, and that's a variable that only carries weight when convenient anyway.

It was financially successful. It underperformed a little, and it wasn't as well recieved as many hoped, but being a minor disappointment compared to certain expectations is not the same as "flop" or "failure."

But then again this is the same forum where people spit up the word bomba like bibbed-up babies the instant a movie trips in front of them. :)

In a post full of wrong, this is the worst.

Thor two doesn't belong on the same level as MoS and Cap 1.

It belongs about 60 levels below.
