Castlevania Double Pack

Anybody else get it? Seems like either Konami undershipped it or retailers didn't give a shit about it cause I had to go to 3 different stores to finally get a copy and it was one of the last 2.

Anyway, seems like the DoS ring trick does not work with this version of Aria, just the stand alone one.

I want it for Harmony of Dissonence...

I still have Aria of Sorrow, but I only had the jpn version of HoD, and I dont remember if I beat it. So I want to run through it again.

My EB said it was not shipping until today, so they would have it tomorrow.

It's being advertised in next week's Best Buy ad. $29.99, used the $10 off coupon to get it for $19.99. That's $10 per game!

Can you link me to that coupon please.

Weird, my Gamestop had a load of copies. And when I went and picked it up, I'd only put $15 on it, but the guy said I'd full paid it (?), so don't know if he messed up or hooked me up or what, but I got it for 15 so I'm not complaining.

I picked it up yesterday at a Walmart. I am working my way through HoD, it's quite easy and I don't care for the castle layout very much. The character doesn't control that great either. It definately isn't as good as CotM, but I hear AoS is better, I can't wait to start playing it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this ultimately ends up being more valuable and rarer than AoS or HoD.

Ok, peeps, I need your opinion. I reserved the double pack from GameStop and picked it up today, and I also have both games seperate. The original games I bought brand new and I am meticulous with them, so they are complete in great condition.

So here's my question: Should I sell the double pack on eBay now, wait a bit, or sell the 2 original, opened copies of AoS and HoD?

Have you finished AoS in the Double Pack already? Because I'm pretty sure that was required for the trick to work with the standalone version.

Never sell any game before it has sat and enriched itself into a wealthy commodity.
Time for this to happen: 3 to 5 years.

I suggest finding a nice dark box and placing all 3 of those games into it, and hide the box in the back of a closet. There's no need to sell *any* of them right now. Discontinued GBA games will only appreciate more in value. Are you desperate as hell for $40 right now? No? Then why the hell are you looking to sell them? Those games will likely double or triple in value over the next few years.

Oops, not yet, I'm going through HoD first since I never played it. Man, Juste Belmont sure is one stiff lurch of a character, I don't like him. I know this is GBA but he seems so lifeless and boring.

Or, you know, you could play them. Investing in "player" carts for the two games would set you back a minimum of another $50, and that's if you found them both at the same Gamestop (almost impossible).

The two copies of AoS and HoD I have are my personal copies, bought way before I began selling on eBay. So I've played through both games a number of times, and cherish them in my collection.

As far as my new, sealed double pack, I'll take Baron's advice and keep all three in my nice, cool, dark closet and leave them for a good while. Games like these I won't mind keeping for a long time, since as collectible as they are they're also really great games (HoD included, haters!!)

I didn't think this would have a limited print run... Why would Konami bother release a new double pack if they're only making a small number of them?

Because they're not like Square and don't like to cheapen their greatest franchise by making it dirt common.

I never got a chance to play any of the GBA Castlevania games, this'll be my first chance. :)

They'll take photocopies of this? Surprised, me.

It's a photoshopped version with the exclusion of copies restriction removed. There's a big thread at the CAG forums on it.

For DoS, you don't need a save completed save in AoS for the extra items, just the cart. While it is nice to get a Rare Ring (increases item drops) earlier, it's not earth-shatteringly cool.

Yep... Soul Eater or Chaos Ring would have been better... [I just got the Chaos Ring today in DoS :D]...

Such a sweet deal. I bought this yesterday. Lame that there's no instruction manual, or at least that's what I was told by the Gamestop employee.

Nope. It has an intruction manual. Kinda significant, actually, since you flip it over to read about the different games.

A franchise is cheapened if people can actually find and purchase the game they want to play?

I've been going to my local EBGames every day for the past week, seeing if they got it in yet. I have it pre-ordered, so I need to look in other stores for it. Dammit, Konami, learn how to distribute properly.

I'm still waiting for EB to finish taking its sweet time getting my preorder in. I think I'll call today instead of making my third trip looking for it.

It didn't ship until the 10th, silly. At least, that's the day EBGames.com had since December.

I know you don't need a completed save file, but you may need to have beaten the game. Once you've beaten it, the game records that you've beaten it and unlocks certain modes, and even if you delete all the save files, it still keeps that record saying that you've beaten it. There's no way within the game to delete that hidden save file (you can apparently do it with an Action Replay).

When DoS came out, I don't know if anyone was using entirely "virgin" AoS carts to test the linkup bonus.

Just picked up my copy today at Best Buy. I also used the coupon linked above and it scanned with no problem. Two Castlevania games for $20! :D

I have a question for when I pick this up (probably tomorrow), which should I play first? Please remember that I've never played any of the GBA games but I've finished DoS on the DS.

Harmony, because then Aria will seem like a big improvement and in the end you will have enjoyed them both.

You don't need to have played Aria to tell that Harmony is feces.

Not necessarily, but it is definitely cheapened if there are a zillion green-label copies at every EB and Gamestop in the nation for $20 or less.

Yeah, I shake my head in dismay everytime I pass by one of the millions upon millions of copies of "A Tale of Two Cities" or "Absalom, Absalom" - I can't bring myself to read most of the great works of literature because they're so cheapened since so many other people have read them - they're not l33t enough anymore.

I have this odd feeling you wish all companies acted just like Working Designs.

I unlocked it with a fresh Aria cart. It's likely that DoS is only looking for a certain cart, and since the double pack likely has a different cart name than standalone AoS, it won't work to unlock the ring.

you're a musician, right? i have found bach recordings in bargin bins before. does the fact that the unwashed masses have access to it cheapen the work?

To be honest, I think his desire to have his games triple in value outweighs anything else. I still can't figure out why he insists on collecting NEW games when perhaps 3 in every 200 video games is ever worth more than the original purchase price.

I think it has more to do with the cost of the print runs and producing the actual cartridges, but I could be very wrong here.

Yes. There is only so much of Pachelbel's Canon, Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Beethoven's "Fur Elise" bagatelle (which means 'trifle' by the way), or Chopin's E-flat major Nocturne I can take before I want to scream from the heights.

A couple of months ago, you would have been right. I made the decision to buy games on release date because I don't want to be able to profit from them any longer. I want the depreciation - the incentive to get my money's worth out of them. As it is, I'm being rewarded for playing my games as little as possible before their value changes, and I don't like that.
