Haha, I loved all of the ensuing weirdness. I never would have
pegged Boss as a villain
, and since I didn't have any expectations as to where to the story should go at that point, I just rolled with it.
It was an amusing twist.

As awesome as
Boss' voice is, I can't be mad. He hams it up and loves it.

NichM from Atlus USA said in this very thread that it takes place in the US.

XgsFei from GameFAQs did.

Atlus says on Amazon it takes place in Tokyo, I -think- what is official PR is considered canon over something one employee said on a message board.

Besides, I have yet to see this post you're talking about.

Getting really annoyed with the messed up audio volumes... How does this slip by before release? I would like to see a patch but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Oh, damn. So that made it into the retail version as well... :/

I guess every single Amazon release date must be 100% true as well.

I've been giving this some thought now that I'm done with the game - what do people think about Erica?

The way they handled her seemed strange to me, because in this world's morality, any post-op transgendered people are necessarily "evil" for trying to hold back the human race because they can't procreate via traditional means.

I mean, I appreciate the inclusion of the character in the first place (even though it's another one of those twists that seems very anime - it's almost an evolution of a Persona 4 character in a way), so I shouldn't complain too much, especially when TG characters are usually a joke in video games, but the morality imposed on Erica seemed very heteronormative.

I dunno, maybe no one cared about the character but it was just stuck in my mind after all was said and done.

Didn't Atlus themselves say this game takes place in fictional America? It was one of their major excuses for not having dual audio. Doesn't that make it more "official"?

Maybe the American version "officially" takes place in America, and the Japanese version takes place in Japan. :p
There are enough cultural elements that make it ambiguous anyway. The kotatsu in Vincent's room being one of them.

I wouldn't think the game condones Mutton's ideology... He is the bad guy. And a murderer.
(... even if they then keep him around as comic relief... eh...)

I'm almost done with the game, I'm on Day 6.

I picked easy, and wow, there are still some really hard levels. The earlier levels were pretty simple so I wondered if I should have gone with normal, but now I'm glad I chose easy.

Yeah, that's true at least. I kind of wonder what the character's position would have been on
say, gay characters
though. Are they just on a completely different track or something? :p

Mutton is the villain. Vincent rebels against his ideology, and forces him to cease giving people nightmares. The game creates a sort of spectrum, and uses a sort of ill-advised "angel/devil" to signify the Order and Chaos ends, but when it comes to the morality pushed by "the game", it's that people should be free to make that decision for themselves, as long as they're taking some sort of action to better themselves instead of wallowing in misery and self-pity.

Given how Erica is treated in the game, I don't think they have anything against her lifestyle. Maybe Mutton would have previously seen her as evil (she eventually got nightmares, after all), but that's certainly not where things end up ultimately.

So I thought Erica was handled really well. I like her a lot in the game.

I think
Mutton ultimately being "wrong" doesn't absolve the what is imposed on her though. I mean, is there any condition in which she could have a relationship but not have the nightmares?

I agree with what you guys are saying broadly though. Maybe I'm just picking nits at this point.

6-3 is fucking bonkers hard. I can't do it! I'm on normal difficulty. I told myself I wouldn't use the internet, but I am now soliciting hints. It doesn't count if it's not a FAQ. SHUT UP, IT DOESN'T.

Seriously, the last mission is an escort? Really? I guess that voice wasn't lying, getting through this is very luck based.

I would guess it would have to be a guy who never wants to have kids or can't have kids for whatever reason. Or maybe it's just because she was never upfront about her "situation." Regardless she could be keeping Toby from starting a relationship with a woman he can have children with. They don't go into that much detail though so it's all just speculation.

All golds on hard up to stage 5 now. I'm moving up!

EDIT: Am I the only one who has a really difficult time whenever making blocks fall is required?

No, I had the hardest time visualizing what to push and how many blocks would go... And that's probably why Babel kicked my ass.

I dunno,
it's a very normative interpretation of who can start a family and what a family can be.

Certainly it makes me wonder if in Japan procedures such asIVF, surrogate mothers or even adoption
are popular.

Well, I just beat it. The only level that I didn't enjoy was the one I made a post bitching about above. Great game overall.

The ending I got (spoilers obviously)
Katherine came to hear the truth, but wanted to break up anyway. She said Vincent's face was looking for excitement. Then Vincent's friends came by and he fell asleep on the table. I did answer a few questions that way I suppose, I was a bit conflicted between the peace/chaos questions. I got the 'Bad Lover' ending trophy.

Are there a bunch of different endings... or just two? edit: counting the available trophies, it looks like 8 total. Hm. I'm pretty curious as to what they are. I don't think I'll replay immediately, but there's definitely some reason to play again.

johnsmith

remember me
Just finished on normal. So damn good. Hard, but not THAT hard.

Got the Katherine True ending which was what I was going for. Will definitely replay a few more times for some of the other endings.

The more I play this the more I dislike it. Very disappointing.

+ Texting idea is great and implemented perfectly.
+ Puzzles dynamics are well-constructed.
+ Story has some nice concepts/ingredients.

- Time limits + overly-sensitive controls = poor design.
- The dialogue.
- Scenes go on forever.
- Simplistic characters.
- Too repetitive.

Probably would go 5/10 at this point. (Just finished 6-levels).

That was great, do they need these people to sign consent forms afterwards or do these people never know it's a gag?
They don't know. I think if they don't have the bars over their faces, they signed for consent though.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I had problems with the controls on hard mode. Sometimes it gets unresponsive (I have two controllers).

First playthrough done at around 17 hours on Normal. Spent some time in the bar, didn't play the arcade game at all. Answered honestly and got
Katherine True ending, makes sense since I got married myself 2 months ago.
Will be playing for more endings.

I was having problems with the puzzles but than Inazuma just clicked. As soon as you got that down, the game is cake. I started Golding everything from that point on.

I'm contemplating buying this game based on the demo. It obviously has very fresh ideas and I love the mature theme of it. I enjoyed the puzzle aspect of it (
especially when Katherine chases you in the 2nd level
), however I can see how that would get very quickly repetitive. Perhaps when this drops in price I'll pick it up?

There are
8 endings. It sounds like you were on the Chaos side of the spectrum, so if you redo chapter 9, you could get one of the Catherine endings if you choose differently
.

You might want to put a spoiler tag over the name of the ending you got and context for it.

In a game about two girls you have to decide over with 8 different endings, is it really a spoiler that some of the endings have to do with one girl and some with the other? Are people that thick?

If it's such a big deal, than you probably shouldn't have quoted it. Now it's here twice, oh noes!

Someplace in
space

Sure, but my point would be that
it looks like Vincent is leaving that "somewhere in space", in that scene. He's looking at a departing ship, and turns his back on the city. That's not what one would expect from a cutscene depicting his arrival.
Add to that that earlier cutscene with a billboard predicting the exact second the rain will stop, in a few hours, and it seems likely to me that the city we see in that Freedom ending was the setting for the entire game. They were in space already.

The bolded is what I was trying to imply. Guess I should have said more. After watching that ending, I definitely feel the same way.

Looking for meaning in GAF
Just finished the game and got the ending where
Katherine gets back together with Vince and they later get married in the Stray Sheep.
Not sure which ending that is.

Took about 10-12 hours for me on Normal, though I don't think I golded anything. I'm not sure how the ranking system works anymore, because sometimes I would make it all the way to the top without dying, get most of the coins along the way, and then still end up with bronze. Am I supposed to get ALL the coins?

Quite satisfied with the game, though I admit to ruthlessly mashing the Undo button to buy myself more time to think/dodge untimely boss attacks. It's an exploit on the player's side, but I got so frustrated with some of the bosses that I quickly lost any guilt I felt when using it.

Just wanted to let you know that some people are really sensitive about spoilers around here, no need to be a dick about it.
edit: I am willing to admit that my inital quoting of the post was dumb and have corrected it.

It's score based - you can look on the wikia to see what score you need to get which medal. But collecting gold and not letting your combo meter fall to zero is probably the key to getting gold.

But wait,
didn't they say it space travel was relatively new? They were talking about "pre-ordering" flights I think.

Replaying the game for a second time. Doing all the puzzles first, though, before the story. That way, I could breeze through the story quick and get all the endings / save everyone. I'm aiming to get all the trophies.

So far, I've completed Stages 1-5 with Gold on Hard. 6-9 await. Oh, the hours.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Okay so I can't stand it anymore. I'll never buy from VG+ again (7+ days and still no Catherine). So I decided to borrow it from a friend and I'm gonna play it asap :D

Wish me good luck! Been hyping this game since it was announced... LET'S GO! (Easy or normal, btw?)

Okay, so just made it past night 4, and it seems I can't get anything other than Silver. How much faster am I supposed to go? I mean, going as fast as I am already strains my creative intuitivity so am I supposed to go even faster?

Crazy. I want some gold though; oh, and Katherine still looks like Number 1 to me. Also, Sara got back.

I'm done playing this. I made myself absolutely miserable finishing 6-3. 6-4 is a lot easier, but I got to literally the last block and was killed, so I had to go back the checkpoint from 48 days earlier, and it became apparent that it is time to put an end to Catherine's abuse. It's cool that it's hard, but it's also clear that Atlus does not believe that my time is valuable, so they make me repeat huge lengths of sections over and over so that I can flail around on one mind-boggling spot again. Tedious is not the same as difficult.

I like the game pretty well otherwise. Back to Gamefly!

You need to keep combo going all while going through the level fast without using Undos and collect a majority, if not all of the coin piles.
