Catherine thread of Naughty Spoilers

H17Bp.jpg

Here's a thread for those of us who have climbed the tower and resisted (or embraced) Catherine's seductive powers. We can discuss endings, characters, easter eggs, dialog, and anything else that is currently turning the excellent |OT| into a bit of a minefield for players who haven't finished the game yet. The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives - to borrow a phrase from a certain someone.

So, without further ado, here's a thread to get all of our questions, praise, confusion, and general spoiler-ness out in the open without ruining the fun for others. After all, discovery is seeing what everybody else has seen, and thinking what nobody else has thought - to steal a saying from a certain someone.

I'll provide a few links to the great Catherine wikia with some general info for people wondering about how to get endings or gold award runs.

Great thread!

How do I get the Legendary Prince trophy from Rapunzel?

Got the true Katherine ending. Loved how the wedding took place at Stray Sheep with Mutton being the host. Also, the wedding pics at then end with the little sheep pushing slices of cake was hilarious.

Did they want to make a Castlevania reference in the final battle? Whenever the curse (randomize some blocks) happens, he says "What a wonderful night to have a curse." or something!

I think that was intentional - all of his quotes are from other people, even in boss form! He quoted a DMX song in that fight too.

I got the ending where Kath and Vince are making wedding plans in bed. I think its called the Normal ending. Was okay with it.

I ended up getting the True lovers ending yesterday.
It was pretty sweet, and i'm kinda sad that I didn't get it first. The one thing I did have trouble with, well, was my own indecisiveness towards the ends questions. I figured i'd play through the game the same way I would answer the questions in real life, and ended up getting a Katherine Bad end, which disappointed me, but I was kind of relieved at the same time.

I didn't know GAF-man was also in Catherine's brazier, judging by the OP picture.

Ok, I just got all of the endings and I'm a little confused about the True Freedom ending:

These characters are not actually living in the space colony right? That ending is implying that Vincent took the $50,000 loan from Mutton and took a space tour and then somehow started a space colony?

They can't possibly live in a space colony right? A couple in the bar talk about the absurdity of going into space but in this ending, we see that the colony is enormous and has a huge city as well as large plots of land with streams and greenery on it.

Will this make sense to me if I beat the Babel challenges or Rapunzel game? I'm so confused, please help me!

Interesting. I only got one Kat photo during the entire deal. The one with the cake.

Same here. I wonder if they kept that one and not the more suggestive ones to keep the contrast between the two characters more obvious. I felt pretty bad when I saw the cake photo, I got it right after the confrontation with Katherine over Steve I think. It was a nice intimate touch, wasn't expecting it.

Hey, maybe space travel is still expensive for plebes even if you live in space already!

I didn't get any, and I think I got the good ending with her? I dunno. I wish there were descriptions listed on that site in the OP that told what the endings were, and not just how to get them.

And I wish even more that someone would post videos on youtube for all the endings so I don't have to replay it a bunch more times.

There's a link on that page to detailed descriptions of each ending, I think.

It was pretty goddamn funny.

Haha, yeah maybe. I'm thinking that Vincent actually won the bet he placed on Feather and spent his fortune into venture real estate in space. He also bought the giant, star class cruiser ship that he gazes at as well maybe. The poster in his room and in the bar bathroom shows a current space shuttle (not a high concept, futuristic one) flying above the planet Earth. This makes me think that they are not living in the same futuristic world that appears in True Freedom Ending.

But, I could be completely wrong here because I've yet to beat the Babel stages which I've heard offer an even deeper explanation to the curse and the story. I'm going to try and beat it right now and I'll post my findings but in the meantime if anybody can offer some info on this - thanks!

Also, while the game isn't part of the SMT canon, there are a few interesting little tidbits in the bar that might at least imply that they're in the same universe (other than the, you know, demons and shit):

There's a poster for a Rise concert in the bathroom and a Gekkoukan High School emblem on the wall in the bar, not to mention the Teddie doll I'm sure everyone has seen. If we take Vincent's appearance in P3P as canon, this game probably takes place while Rise is still a popular singer, before P4. It might just be easter eggs, but there seem to be enough easter eggs between Vincent in P3P and Persona stuff in Catherine to establish a little link.

BUT THEN SPACE HAPPENED.

Chronologically speaking, it might be a bit hard to link those games though...

I'm now rinsing easy for maximum law, and it really is Easy. All golds so far and didn't die yet. I rinse them all via the phone and then skip them in the story.

Also love the title screen music.

I loved True Cheater. Daddy suddenly saying that his daughter promised to play Video Games with him was so random. Or Mutton suddenly being there, I lol'd.

Finished it the other day. Got the Bad Lover ending.

I'd like to get all of the endings. First run I had played on Easy. Should I start my second run on Normal? I've heard if you get Gold on Normal difficulty, you can skip those levels next playthrough. Is this applicable on Normal and above settings?

So true, that was the best ending to see, even if the True Katherine ending was more fitting. I definitely enjoyed the True Catherine one the most.

Yeah. Normal is worth it.

I'm surprised they only have the revelation about Eric known in the True Katherine ending.

Playing through again is making me notice how many hints they were dropping the entire time about that. Hindsight is 20/20, I guess.

Well, you only really figure out what Jonny is all about in the freedom ending.

Gotta give people some extra incentives to see them all.

Yeah, there's constant hints, I knew something had to be up with how odd they always acted about it. The thing with Johnny was only referenced in the nightmares, so it wasn't as prevalent. I do think it's a good incentive to get more endings, though.

Also, what the hell does the Dumuzid curse do? I never noticed a difference.

Pretty sure it was what was making the blocks change type around you. There's no way to avoid it as far as I know, it's just there for flavor.

I seem to remember pulling blocks while you're cursed transforms them?
(... and that's exploitable, actually...)

Does anyone know who Martha and Lindsay were supposed to be?

They didn't seem to be human, if you ask me, since they knew a lot of stuff that normal people wouldn't know.

Not to mention how cryptic they were all the time haha.

I was totally cool with it when he turned the block I was standing on into a spring.

I wasnt expecting the twist with Boss (I was expecting Erica to be behind things), but I liked how the 9th night was basically all a deal and competition with the devil. He called himself Dumuzid, but yelled stuff like "I am the morningstar!" during the battle, so I'm not convinced he is not the SMT Lucifer. Things with C were odd at times, but I loved how it went full SMT at times.

I'm echoing other people, but were Martha and sister ever explained?

Is there somewhere with text recaps of the endings and the whole story?
Not yet surprisingly, but you could watch a playthrough on youtube and skip the stage parts.

Or... buy/rent/etc. It really is pretty great! Being ESSENTIALLY a visual novel, the choices you make help determine the story's outcome and are a big part of it.

edit: durr, or... follow the advice one post down
