CBS Orders Supergirl Series

I'd take a series/movie based on

over even Batman any day.

Who is that?

I hope they just say screw it and allow the TV universe(s) to reference stuff like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.
Don't need direct appearances but since they say over and over again the universes are separate what does it matter?

"I met a billionaire with high-tech toys, and a wondrous woman who's gonna throw you for a loop." - actual dialogue from the final season of Smallville

"Gullible-ass Superman decided to get in his giant snowball of a spaceship and fly round-trip eight years to look at the remains of his exploded planet JUST TO MAKE SURE his exploded planet was still exploded because someone (Luthor) told someone else he thought he saw his exploded planet somewhere."

Superman won't exist and Supergirl will be the only hero.

And then introduce Batgirl and Wonder Woman.

And then Power Girl

And then move this show to Cinemax.

I hope they nail the costume.

This one was pretty good:

So something similarly "regal" like that would be great.

As much I love girls in skirts... no skirts.

I really liked Smallville despite it's problems but I still have no interest in this. I don't know, maybe I'll be more interested when we see what it's going to look like. lol

They should just make it Superman, but gender swap everyone!

Lewis Lane
Alexandra Luthor (Lex still works as name)
Jammie Olson

Now I'm just going to be dissapointed when it doesn't happen...

Eh, not really a fan of the superhero saturation (of which I have no real allegiance to) that's taken hold of film and TV.

That being said, CBS has one the best dranas on TV (The Good Wife) and Ali Adler's involvement is promising.

I like the one in the upper right here, although the one in the lower right is pretty good, too, with some color changes & alterations. (and of course, an actual S-shield)

TBH, I'd rather Kara be saved for the next Superman movie taking the idea from the prequel comic and making the realization of Clark's near immortality an emotional anchor for the story with Kara's introduction. Instead they're probably going to make Kara be the Kryptonian ancestor of the Amazonians or some crap.

UGH! The disdain I have for the show runners who took over for Millar and Gough after they left Smallville is still great even after all this time, the last season pretty much ruined the entire show for me which considering all the stupid shit that happened before the last season should say a lot, never mind the finale being the passed through undigested cherry on the shit cake, I'm pretty sure I wasn't along in thinking "I waited 10 years for this?" At the end of it. I only recently realized they're now "consulting producers" of Under The Dome this season and wrote a couple episodes and it makes more sense to me why that show has gotten so much more stupid this season, granted they're not in charge but it goes with who they've picked up.

They also made me hate Chloe even more than Lana which is quite a feat.

Because CBS picked it up with no pilot needed for a full season.

If a network wants to pay you, let them pay you.

I'm still really surprised they did that. I guess they didn't want to miss out and after Arrow and now Flash (by reviews) there is a good team behind this but that's still insanely risky to go straight to series like this. I'm looking forward to it though.

I know, but The CW belongs in a way to CBS, so why not let The CW have Supergirl to make a bigger DC universe.

Why "let" another network, even one you have a piece of, have the rights to a show you want if you're willing to pay money for it?

CBS thinks slapping the S on an action series is a good idea, and worth a full series order without a pilot. They obviously think it has a chance to make them more money on their network than it they could make getting a percentage (if they even do) off whatever it might make on CW.

I know people are fiending for that shared universe, but I think a larger network like CBS is the right call for Supergirl.

There's the Superman IP, which is proven on television (Lois and Clark was incredibly popular in its day, and Smallville is the longest running NA sci-fi series), and is going to be in the forefront of people's minds thanks to the films.

It's a female-led show in a time when studio execs are, slowly but surely, getting their heads out of their asses and realizing that catering to women by creating stories about women can equal money in your pocket.

It's a "geek" genre show, which can catch on and build a loyal and fervent viewer base very quickly and hopefully turn into big cultural phenomenons (see: Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead).

Finally, basic math. Bigger network = bigger potential audience.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I need the fight sequences to be superior to Smallville pls.

And the cape needs to look damn good on television.

Every primetime network has their own comic book show now. Fox has Gotham, ABC has Agents of Shield, and NBC has Constantine.

You can forget any costume without a cape.

Edit: Reading around for the reaction online and nerds never let shit go. People getting huffy at CBS for cancelling the old Flash show. lol

The hope could be sort of a Hannibal/NBC thing. It absolutely shouldn't work, and it doesn't make sense, but there it is kinda deal?

(It probably won't be that, but hey)

Also, it seems a little cart-before-the-horse to worry about whether or not the shows will be connected when we dont' even know if the show is good yet. Shows should be allowed to establish themselves before we hurriedly start cramming them into each others universes like superhero turducken.

Just because publishing does it one way doesn't mean live-action has to do it the exact same way.

NBC has had good programs. Has WGN?

HIEROGLYPH, WHY

I feel like we missed something special.

People are already "completely sure" that Supergirl is going to fail because it's on CBS. For some weird reason, people are attributing this to the whole "WB/DC hate fun" because instead of putting it on the CW - where the series can be a coming-of-age story crossover w/Arrow and The Flash, and Kara can be a little sister to Barry and Ollie (yeah, I dunno) - it'll be stuffy and boring on CBS.

Twitter is odd sometimes.

wait....SCALPED is getting a series? On WGN? How on earth would that work?

Salem has blood and gore, swearing, and a few titties (unless I'm remembering wrong? They definitely show some ass).

It can be done. I don't think WGN is as strict as the Big Four.

Edit: It's WGN America. It's a smaller network that has a spread of something like 70 Million viewers, but they're making a push into the cable space.
