So some Duke students have decided to take the tenting tradition for basketball and apply it to football this season, including a few who will tent for the spring game this Saturday. Not sure how successful it will be but it beats walking around the campus drunk in a panda costume I guess.

Is this the same as what normal college football fans refer to as "tailgating"?

After reading the link further, it seems to involve cramming as many people as possible into a tent. Okay?

Duke students (as well as students at other schools) are known to camp out in tents for up to several weeks, months even, for big college basketball games in order to secure the best seats. At Duke, they "live" in tents in "Krzyzewskiville" just outside Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Sounds like they're expanding it for football, at least for the night before the game, just as a show of support. It's not quite a matter of "necessity" like it is to gain basketball admission.

My buddy goes to KU and was telling me about thier camping system, and it sounds like the dumbest thing ever. You can get a group as big as you like, and 1 person from your group has to be present at your site from 8am-8pm every day.

Wtf is that? Thats not even camping.

We're not a big bball school but our camping for biggers games is 4 days ahead of time and you have to be there the entire time.

Duke has normal tailgating, but most of that is done by alumni and boosters. The student idea of tailgating was getting shit faced in one random area of campus while wearing a stupid costume, and it never involved the football game. It will be interesting to see student turnout this year.

I guess I just don't understand roundball or why someone would camp out for multiple days for a roundball game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if your team's SOS Sagarin avg. is higher than 124,it is outside of FBS strength and somewhere in the FCS realm.

Thanks West Virginia.
It's really Southern Miss

BCS conference, Division 1, Division 1, and the Southern Conference, which Alabama and the SEC used to exist as.

Western Carolina has a higher sagarin than Southern Miss? I was surprised at first, but the last couple years have been really bad for Southern Miss. Not sure how WCU has been doing on the FCS level...

edit: Its going to take time getting used to referring to what we once knew as BCS teams as "former BCS" teams

yeah, as I typed it out, I really wondered what the term is to replace "BCS Conference."

The only teams on the list that play Southern Miss, are all in the bottom 10...

When Prince turned into a symbol, people referred to him as "artist formerly known as Prince". I think the same principal can be applied here until an official term is coined. "power conference" may still apply, but its all up in the air

Numbers are kind skewed with "amount of OOC games"

13 Missouri— South Dakota St ; at Toledo ; UCF ; Indiana

107 Kansas State— Stephen F. Austin ; Auburn ; UTEP

nearly 100 spots different, but is that right? UCF and a bad B1G school (and 2 nobodies) versus Auburn (and 2 nobodies)?

UCF had a great year, but we don't know how they'll be without the QB. Versus a (ugghhh...) young Auburn team coming off a national championship loss.

Earlier this week, we brought you some of Oklahoma’s more ridiculous self-reported possible NCAA violations. Now it’s Ohio State’s turn.

According to documents provided to Cleveland.com, Ohio State self-reported a violation after Urban Meyer gave the phone to Tim Tebow to speak with a recruit. According to the Buckeyes, Clifton Garrett called Meyer (which is allowed) while Meyer was having lunch with a few friends and one of his most famous former players.

Garrett asked Coach Meyer if he could wish Tebow good luck on the upcoming season. Coach Meyer handed the phone to Tebow and Garrett conversed with Tebow for approximately eight seconds. Coach Meyer stated that no recruiting conversation occurred, there was no intent to have Tebow recruit on behalf of Ohio State and he, in fact, did not recruit on behalf of Ohio State.

UCF 34 OOC schedule? Reasonable.

We'll also be very formidable this year. Really good QB prospects. Plus our defense gets even better this year. Going to be a sick secondary.

We have a good shot at the conference and access bowl slot I think.

Well that won't get you to Ireland. You should buy a boat!

But seriously, it is a strange game to be played in Ireland. A Notre Dame game vs. "X" opponent is understandable, but UCF vs. Penn State? Seems odd

Yeah, it is weird. The original series was a standard home/home that PSU wasn't going to honor. So I think there began talk to do something different with the game. For some reason the Ireland organizers were willing to talk and pay a bunch to bring us there. I think UCF will make well over a million from the game.

Also had the O'Leary vs. O'Brien angle, but of course O'Brien left.

That Missouri ranking is positively bizarre. FSU below them despite Okie State, Notre Dame and UF? Come on, Sags!

It's not that complicated, dudes. They're looking at each school's 2013 Sagarin rating (this isn't something the noted Pac-25 homer is doing himself, they're just using his numbers), and then averaging them. A low-ranked school is going to pull you way down.

This is probably not the best way of looking at SOS. :p

Hey, at least it temporarily woke up some slumbering posters on this thread. We went over 24 hours without a post at one point this week, and we desperately needed something to discuss/debate.

The McNair case is hilarious to follow. In their desperation to keep the records sealed, the NCAA is willing to throw anybody under the bus... including the NCAA itself:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...se-shouldnt-mean-unsealing-investigative-file

The NCAA argues in defense of an ongoing defamation suit that possible "factual errors, inadequate investigation and overt hostility" by the association should not help the case of former USC assistant coach Todd McNair.

McNair as well as the Los Angeles Times and New York Times are seeking to unseal the entire investigative file of the landmark USC/Reggie Bush case. McNair is suing the NCAA for defamation of character. He has been joined by the two media outlets in their support of unsealing the files.

The NCAA has objected to unsealing the file on confidentiality grounds.

"Sure, we lied, made tons of errors, are completely incompetent and overtly hostile to the defendant. But that doesn't mean he has a case!"

A judge in that case revealed 15 months ago that one NCAA administrative staffer called McNair "a lying morally bankrupt criminal, in my view, and a hypocrite of the highest order."

Emails between that administrator, Shep Cooper, and two non-voting members of the infractions committee were distributed "covertly" according to the judge's document. Another NCAA infractions committee member in the judge's file claimed an NCAA interview with McNair was "botched."

In November 2012, that judge, Frederick Shaller of the Los Angeles Superior Court concluded "the NCAA [had] reckless disregard for the truth." He also called the McNair's treatment by the NCAA "malicious." On the basis of those revelations, Shaller said he would unseal the investigative file. The NCAA then appealed. The appellant's rebuttal brief in question is a reply to the plaintiffs' response of the NCAA appeal.

The NCAA argues in the brief that "emails of two members of the Infractions Committee and its liaison" should not be considered proof of malice.

The best part:
The NCAA admitted it had telephone records showing that Lake initiated the call, contrary to his testimony to the association. Lake told the NCAA that McNair had called him in early hours of Jan. 8, 2006. That conclusion according to Shaller's decision "could reasonably cast doubt on the occurrence of the ... conversation." The NCAA "should have known" parts of the infractions report regarding that call were "demonstrably untrue."

Of course, the NCAA doesn't believe anybody should get in trouble for things they "should have known," right? Oh, wait.

Also, Pete was back on campus yesterday and gave some quotes talking about the amazing "venom" the committee had for USC.

There's also the deluge of documents released from the Ed O'Bannon/NCAA case, that make it obvious that the NCAA knew about the "likenesses" of players being used in the NCAA games.

http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/2/28/5455374/obannon-vs-ncaa-football-ea-sports-video-games

1. EA just wanted its games to be like television, which proves the point.

2. Cease and desist j/k lol

3. Brad Nessler didn't know those names by accident.

4. The NCAA is why you still have to make that "academic prestige" recruiting pitch in NCAA Football dynasty mode.

Each point broken down. #2 is lol-worthy, because I know Alabama more or less did the Cease and Desist-cover your ass routine with that T-Town Menswear story from a couple years ago.

#3 is Nessler, the announcer for the game, recorded tons of last names, especially the ones for known players. Now, you'd figure yeah, Smith/Jones/Johnson/WIlliams and all the "often used" names would be in there, but some of the rarer ones are in there too.

Duke tried that and got blown out, so no more Alabama's and Stanfords for a while. Granted, at the time Duke scheduled KU for a home an home was 3 coaches ago, KU was a better team. Troy was a last minute addition and had just come off a bowl the year prior and Tulane went to a bowl last year. Elon sucks so year Duke SHOULD go 4-0, beat crappy WF and get a couple of other wins somewhere (UVA, Cuse maybe?) 7-5 and bowlin' again!

UGA RB recruit Nick Chubb was in some kind of weightlifting thing this weekend and he did 645 squat, 390 bench, 395 power clean. Ridiculous numbers, but especially for a highschool senior.

For all the criticism the NCAA gets, I don't understand how schools haven't replaced it. They have the ability.

After all, the NCAA is made up of the schools themselves.
