Maybe she just wanted to hold him after he passed out, and then observe his reaction when he came to and saw himself in that position.
Looks like it worked.

That sounds like a solid hypothesis. He is a normal dude, I bet she falls for him or he falls for her. They are definitely #1-2 right now in the show, so something is gonna happen between them.

Hmm yeah, I'm still wondering why she made him use his powers there.

Me too, there has to be a better reason than just being in love. She really doesn't like seem the type who would just ask someone to use his powers for her personal gain.

Stupid Fan Theory Time!

Since the other girl can effectively use other powers while channeling her dead sister I'm assuming that the same holds true for MC.

Time to update my theory.

So what's everyone's theory on the sister's potential death? it's probably going to play out like this:

—————————————————————————————————————————————
1) Lelouch and the squad are hanging out at school

2) Wet map guy comes in and drips all over the map

3) MC: "But that's my house!!?"

4) The crew goes to MC's house and finds the sister with some OP powers she can't control.

5) Sister gets herself killed/caught by scientists. Bonus points if MC is forced to take control over his sister and has to use her powers to either defeat scientists or kill/incapacitate the sister (Which is going to be freaky since he is his sister at that moment.
Mao isn't going to mention this extra part of his ability until the very last moment because of no real reason except for shock factor.

—————————————————————————————————————————————

We'll see, there's still going to be two "slow" episodes before anything is really going to happen. I don't mind this pacing though, last episode was super enjoyable, Mao and MC are really fun characters and because of this anything that they're doing tends to be fun.

I also like the "That's such a turnoff!" gag that's going on, Mao and MC share their general dislike of everything.

Episode 4

Not bad but not great either. Little development overall and some comedic moments. Little sis and her pizza sauce love stays the best part of the episode.

we need some gifs of idol magic in here

Did you ever ask yourself what would happen if our good friends went on a camping trip? Fret not! next week has got you covered!

Episode 5 Preview
Oh man, we're even going to purchase a melon, I'm so excited!

Just one more slow episode left after this. Beachtime?

that a bruise on Nao's cheek? :/

when will Misa disappear, I wonder. HAH HUH HAH HUH. I like her better than Yusarin but she ain't too shabby either

I am surprised how little KEY this last episode was. Was expecting some tragic backstory for the pitcher we'll never see again.

why you let me down show

That sequence was pretty well done. I'm sure this is the calm before the storm coming up in the next couple weeks.

Wow, I think they're actually going to kill of Imouto, she's running out of pizza sauce after all.

Anyway, this episode was pretty fun (like all the others). We got the see that the MC can use the powers of the people who he controls so that's a thing from now on.

That "teleporting" guy is super swole btw, I can't even believe it.

Oh, there's 100% going to be some scene where he is about to kiss Yukarin but just before something happens the other girl takes over.

Charlotte 5

The little sister is so going to die. Death flag is up. I almost want this to happen.

Anyway, the episode wasn't bad but still a bit boring. The confrontation with the flying man was a bit short but at least they potentially set it as the main character having to use the ability of the people he possesses. Maybe eventually someone will have a saving grace ability with lethal side effects and he'll take the mantle. Also, I love Tomori's planning.

Also, more hints at the brother. I'm sure that he's Charlotte or is connected to whatever Charlotte is.

Wow, I think they're actually going to kill of Imouto, she's running out of pizza sauce after all.

Maybe her power is immortality as long as pizza sauce is near her? :P

EP5 (reposting from the summer anime thread)

It strikes me as odd that they chose to recruit the MC and Yusarin, but that all characters that showed up after them were kept as one-shot appearances. Meeting a new teenager with special powers each week and wrapping everything up in a single episode feels wasteful, and kind of conflicts with the character-building sequences that the stable cast has. It's also still weird that the MC has changed from a Light wannabe into a fairly generic righteous anime protagonist after a single episode, since it felt like easing his character development a bit more could've resulted in more interesting scenes as he began opening up to the others and slowly stopped being a selfish jerk.

Regarding imouto-chan, I don't really feel like the show does anything interesting with her. On top of her flat character that only interacts with the MC, all scenes that have her in it are full of off-putting overly cutesy speech patterns nano desu. Her current characterization as the MC's moe little sister who keeps putting pizza sauce on everything isn't quite cutting it for me.

Episode 5

Stop raising death flags for lil sis damn you!!!!!
If really something happens to her I'll be distraught QQ

Also, Yuu x Nao romance incoming?

I think we'll see something like that later on, both the pairs are actually getting shipped pretty hard by the show itself. There's also a lot of potential for some gags with Yusarin's channeling power.

Altough after that scene in the river a Yuu X Joujirou pairing would be better ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Pretty solid episode, especially after how boring the last episode was. I think we got more time with the main cast and seeing Yuu and Nao interact in particular is interesting. The "power of the week" thing is getting tired. All this hinting and building up to a larger plot is making me realize I just want to skip these episodes and get to the real overarching story already. Something about these slice of life episodes isn't appealing to me the same way that the previous key stories have. The characters don't feel interesting enough or something.

The problem with killing off the imouto, is that she hasn't interacted with any of the characters in any meaningful way, and I don't think there's any way for the viewer to be attached to her at this point in the show. If they do decide to kill her off, it'll just be used as a motivator for Yuu that leads into the main plot. It just feels so unlike Key to make such a shallow character, yet have her serve an important role in moving the plot forward. If Jun Maeda expects me to feel any emotional attachment to her character with this little screen time, then he's off point. I think this is another case of the show simply being too short, it's running into many of the same issues as Angel Beats. The characters aren't well fleshed out, and the overarching plot is the main driving force for the show as opposed to the characters.

It's also still weird that the MC has changed from a Light wannabe into a fairly generic righteous anime protagonist after a single episode, since it felt like easing his character development a bit more could've resulted in more interesting scenes as he began opening up to the others and slowly stopped being a selfish jerk.

After Nao reminded him in the second episode that he's still just a cheater, Yuu agrees that it's not like him to act like this, so he's definitely aware of it. The problem is that the change didn't feel natural or progressive, but because of his previous comment I'm wondering if the writers have some reason behind his current state of mind. He was a much more interesting character in the first episode.

Nice write-up!
-----------------

The imouto is kind of a weird, almost meta character, especially at this moment. I'm excited to see what they're going to do with her but it's probably going to be like this.

1) Force a "likeable" character on the viewer
2) Let something bad happen to her
3) The group of viewers who like imouto will feel sad and get more invested in the show.

It's working though, plenty of people like her at the moment.

I don't really know what to think of it right now. I guess the show just tries to pander really hard to some demographic. If you fit in that group you'll probably end up liking the show a lot, if you don't the show will fall flat at some moments.

Yeah, that's my main gripe with everybody's characterization. Things happen too quickly and as a result things don't lead into any kind of emotional investment on any of the characters. Trying to pull my strings with "boo-hoo, she's bullied at school" out of nowhere won't make me instantly feel bad for Nao, just like going all moe moe kyun~ with imouto isn't enough to make me emotionally attached to her character and fear for her safety when she suddenly begins tripping on death flags.

Like you said in the rest of your post, to me it currently feels like a plot-centric story that looked like a character drama at first glance. The "power of the week" formula isn't even interesting in that it's mostly about confronting the users and taking them on their word of never using their powers again.

My other gripe with the show so far is that it has too many characters who're overly flat and played straight, such as Yusarin, imouto, the misterious soaked helper and the evil evil scientists (who only showed up in a flashback so far). The instant movement guy has opted for a "tell, don't show" approach with his well-toned body, which feels like a waste since him having to stay fit in order to survive using his special ability could've been played up, rather than having him be a generic guy who becomes stupid whenever he's around Yusarin and playing his power's results for laughs (aka "oh look, geysers of blood are gushing out of him. lol").

I think those are ayumi's friends from school
who are clearly fake friends sent by the scientists to capture her

The scientist can't even find a school full of those magical kids, I doubt they'll do something as smart as sending fake friends lol.

Anyway, pretty stoked for this next episode.

I think this is a postet from of some magazine, looks pretty slick.

Interesting that it's imouto instead of the actual cast, kinda says something doesn't it?

Man those kids were super fucking suspicous, the biggest twist was that only one of them was evil

So what's everyone's theory on the sister's potential death? it's probably going to play out like this:

Close enough.

My response:

Charlotte ep.6
FUCK, NO, FUCK, dammit, WTF. .. I knew it was coming but still, I wasn't ready for THAT! My goodness the creator wasn't fuckin' around with what he said. That whole sequence was insane..

I'll elaborate coharently later. Wow, I was not expecting it to be THAT way.

How come this is the first time I'm actually visiting this OT o.O
Oh well, here it is:

Charlotte - 06

Holy shit. I knew it was coming, but I was not prepared for THAT. That whole sequence at the end was insane.

Oh, and the after credit's scene: Does that mean part of my shitty random prediction a few episodes back was actually correct?
Yuu dies but overtakes the body of someone else just before it, so he survives and becomes something like Yusa and Misa.
I guess I'm wrong, though. But still, this is the first episode of the show where I really want to see the next episode immediately.
-----------------------
And here's said shitty random prediction if anyone wants to suffer through read it:
My guess would be that a meteor shower hits the shool and turns everything into a sea of blood. Would be quite fitting since their school is literally called Sea of Stars : P

Random overdramatic ideas of what could happen afterwards. You have been warned ;)
Our main character is the first to die, but in the moment before his death he uses his ability to possess Yukarin, and because of her ability it works out somehow and he starts sharing her body together with Misa.
MCs sister died as well, which causes him to snap and go insane. Since he is now without a body, his ability has no risks anymore and he can possess anyone without fear. In a fit of madness he starts possessing the corpses of his sister and newfound friends in turns and he starts roleplaying classroom with them.
The end. May need to throw some evil scientists somewhere in there for good measure.

Close enough.
Not really.

10/10
I loved this episode. The show delivered. I was afraid that the whole thing with the sister would be a red herring. That one of the other girls would have the ability. That it would be another episode like the previous ones. I was wrong. SO WRONG.

The whole episode was just fantastic. That crazy girl with the cutter came out of nowhere and really surprised me. That bitch had such a crazy face. And then, the climax. The reveal of the ability was amazing and really well done. And it was a fucking poweful ability. The whole school building went down. I'm just completely amazed with this. And damn, the last scene was horryfying. It seems that imouto died. I wonder what happened to the main character. And that post credits scene was weird. Maybe someone with an ability saved them? I have no idea. In any case, I love the show now.

You are not prepared..

Insert Illidancookingjpg here...

I shouldn't have watched Symphogear before Charlotte, because I need something happy or energetic to watch now. The end of the episode is still weighing on me.

Also, all happened because the pizza sauce ended. Like the pizza sauce was the real charm keeping everything safe. If only MC restocked the pizza sauce....

Wow middle school girls sure mean business nowadays!

I suppose this
can be a depressing turn-around, but when key did it, it just became comedy because you go into the show expected something.
