Chess wunderkind Trump threatens Comey on Twitter

So the President and his people worked together with another party to infiltrate the DNC to steal data and information. President fires the man investigating him. President claims to be recording audio conversations he has with people.

You guys realize I'm not talking about Nixon here right?

Does anyone really think the scandal here is that Russia was depositing money into Trump's bank account? And these transactions would be revealed in his taxes?

That is ridiculous.

Exactly, it's called money laundering. And it just so happens that Trump has owned cash heavy businesses that are perfect for that purpose - casinos.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

That's the story he's giving to his idiot "only three brain cells" supporters.

The real story is that the tax returns will feature numerous shell companies that will result in people "following the money". That's where they would get him.

You fire the head of the FBI, someone far more educated, literate, with a longserving career in Intelligence and Legal circles, who by all accounts was a liked and respected figure in those circles, and then you threaten him publically about conversations you had together in private and you think this a great idea.

Honestly the whole GOP is a bunch of criminals, not acting to protect the intrests of the entire country, and cowardly staying silent and behind Trump just because they're going team over country, are power hungry, and deem any means necessary to reach or keep it.

I think I may never use air quotes ever again (after this post).

If he really does have "tapes", who does he really think would come off sounding worse in them? I hardly think Comey would have said anything incriminating in them, so Trump's just threatening to blackmail himself, all just to prove the "wiretapps" were real.

This administration is going down in flames.

I was going to say, but not even that is true. Donald's NBC interview, where he contradicted his own official letter about the Comey dismissall was yesterday

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1372704

That was extremely dumb, to me this is worse. Threatening Comey about leaking audio of their conversations on Twitter is batshit bonkers. To me it's obvious he's talking about the dinner conversation where Trump demanded loyalty and asked if he was being investigated. As if this tweet would prevent a leak. As if Comey was about to send the audio to news networks but then got this tweet and stopped. "Oh my, I never considered this would make Trump upset." This tweet accomplishes one thing, makes Trump look more guilty than even his past insane statements have, including his contradictions about Comey's dismissal yesterday.

That audio has to be the thing of dreams.

Why is tapes in quotes? Nobody is gonna be mad he said tapes and then it turns out it was a digital phone recording. Like is he that paranoid about being technically wrong?

So, is he trying to imply he taped his conversation with Comey and might have proof that it didn't happen as is being reported? Obviously bullshit tactics to try to save face publicly without any actual proof.

Later he will reveal he was referring to the tape holding his tie in place during dinner

And if he has tapes, than he is really speedrunning Nixon

I don't understand... If the POTUS confessed to robbing a liquor store would he still need to be impeached in order to be arrested?
How far can this go?

No, he could still be arrested but that doesn't actually stop him from being President. Eugene Debs famously ran for President while in prison in 1920, for example. You'd realistically want both impeachment and then arrest.

I guess I interpreted it the otherway, that Comey better hope he (Comey) didn't record their meetings as a legal threat but I guess what you posted makes more sense. It can be taken either way but my original interpretation is so much more damaging that you are probably right.

No this is worse.

I'm probably wrong and thats kind of amazing.

Donald managed to say something dumber than his story about the firing of the FBI director being wrong.

And that just within a day.

I think at this point you have to charge the GOP with obstruction, they are doing everything they can to protect trump and sabotage investigations.(Nunes stopping his car in the middle of the street and running to the white house for instance).

They are jeopardizing our national security to defend thier brand.

...and also you can't always trust what my staff says.

Whenever I imagine Trump on twitter:

Why would I not be surprised to learn that Trump has started chasing Pence around the hallways of the White House whilst brandishing an axe, like Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall?

You think Trump has the stamina to carry and ax, much less chase? It would be Trump with a golf club, and Pence would take the stairs.

I'm honestly still trying to digest and wrap my head around this reality.

Things that would have a President stoned out of office are now completely normal.

What the fuck is going on, what the fuck happened to checks and balances?

Erdogan effect. We slowly get used to worse and worse abuses of power until it's full on fascism.

It's certainly not chess but he's not stumbling into it either. He has learned, or maybe knows instinctively, that the only way for him to sustain all of his bullshit, policy disasters, and reek of corruption, is to keep generating headlines stretching the limits of acceptability, even (especially) if it comes at the cost of the institutions. He's incredibly dangerous, and so are the republicans excusing him.

It's way worse than Nixon. Nixon did the same thing for his own gain, not in collusion with a rival foreign power.

But as long as republicans control Congress nothing can be done. It's fucking infuriating.

Yeah, I'm not sure if there is a method to his madness, but him constant escalating the situation by saying or doing something even more outrageous than the last, has worked during his campaign, and works now. People just can't focus on anything anymore, and we slowly become desensitized to all the horrendous bullshit he is doing.

He's basically doing a version of this Simpsons scene:

I don't want to say he's doing this as a strategy though. He's just an old madman who's flailing around and everybody is just so flabbergasted that they don't know how to act or react to it.
