Choosing a gaming Mouse

Yeah, I'm done with Razer. Back to Logitech...my MX 518 lasted me 5 years (and it would still last me if I were using it)...they've been solid.

I had the same experience with the 518. My 518 works 100% and I've been using it since 2006.

Regardless, just did a minor upgrade to the MX518's successor. The G400.

The same mouse, but with better surface material. Thinner cord. 3600 Max DPI instead of 1600.

Edit. I wrote this hours ago. Didn't press reply. Doh.

Logitech G700 is the only mouse that matters. It's outstanding. Performance Mouse MX is brilliant too.

I have a Razer Mamba 4G too but rarely use it as the battery life is horrible.

Logitech G9x with the wide grip is the best wired mouse I've ever used and incidentally much preferable to the DeathAdder I had at the same time.

I once tried a RAT 9 and thought it not only looked hideous but felt really uncomfortable, despite the ability to change the shape.

I'm interested in the Thermaltake Level 10 M Mouse if it ever makes it to retail.

My gaming mouse... simple, comfortable shape, 2 side buttons, 3 dpi settings.
And CHEAP. Microsoft makes a good mouse.
Don't need much more than that, folks.
I have one of these, and the right side button is awkward to use. I have to go out of my way to press it.

I apprehensively picked up a Razer Naga (2012) yesterday and already love it. How did I go so long without all these easily accessible extra buttons?

I've barely applied it to MMO gaming yet and it's already awesome even just for web browsing.

Thinking of picking up one of these four mice:
CM Storm Sentinel Advance II
Most features for the price, but doesn't have a whole lot in the way of aggregate reviews. I have a CM Storm keyboard and my friend has a CM Storm keyboard and mouse which all work great, but I'm not sure if I should go for anecdotal or aggregate experience.

Logitech G500
Seems to be a great all around choice but it's ugly as sin and doesn't look all that comfortable to hold.

Razer Deathadder
I guess it's the best 'basic' choice but seems really....basic. Not that I need tons of features, but I feel like a few gaming features would be cool. Like being able to change the weight.

Logitech G9X
I'd get the MW3 edition and tape over the logo because for some reason it's $25 cheaper. Looks good, but perhaps a bit small for my hands.

I've got long fingers and use a sort of hybrid palm / finger grip. Mostly move my fingers around with my wrist rested on the mousepad.

Any thoughts?

G500 all the way, if you ask me

possibly the best follow up to the mighty mx518. Easily one of the most used mouse out there and for a reason

Got mine 3 months ago and I love it. Great fit to my hand, nice starting weight with the ability to add even more, up to 7200 DPI wth 5 DPI setting. Oh its so good.

Waiting for ROCCAT Kone Pure. I tried many, many mice but ROCCAT got the best rubberized texture/feel of any.

Old ROCCAT is a bit bulky for me so this Pure edition might do the trick.

Every mouse is objectively worse than the Steelseries Sensei. The RAW is almost better due to the material.

Only complaint possible with it is if you use a claw grip. Get a CM Storm Spawn/Xornet if that is the case.

How do you hold it? It just doesn't look all that comfortable to me.

I've got one and quickly took 2 pictures to show how I hold it. I find it very comfortable (a bit less than the steelseries Ikari I used before, but the scroll wheel is about 5 billion times better for everything, especially internet browsing, so that makes up for it).

I could knock down some nonsense about mice and their impact on gaming but no point people think all sorts of bs these days that isn't true.

Most of my experience with mice have been with ms, logitech, and razor products. Right now rocking a G400, before that MX518.

Get a mouse that you feel you're comfortable with and then just make sure it doesn't have crap performance. Reviews and benchmarks on mice are quite handy and get rid of the fanboy bs you hear about. Outside of that get one with a lot of buttons makes certain genres much easier.

Turn off enhanced point precision and look up how to disable windows bunk form of acceleration and the like it applies to mice.

My Razer Diamondback lasted daily use for five years. Great mouse, most likely my favorite ever.
Mine lasted for ages too until it died earlier this year :/

I got a deathadder since then and to be honest it's not that great for my hand/playstyle.

I was keen on the taipan as it is pretty much the same formfactor as the diamondback....but then I tried Synapse 2.0 after a pc reinstall.
What a laggy clusterfuck of a program :(

I won't be buying any Razer mouse which uses Synapse software.

Back to looking or a new mouse haha

Great post from you as always, Sethos. You really do go out of your way to stir up shit in the threads you participate in.

On-topic, I was using a Razer Naga for the first half of the year, before something internal broke and the pointing functions of the mouse no longer work. My brother-in-law had a Deathadder for about the same period of time, before his right mouse button stopped working completely. For the price, I'd expect better build quality, and so I can't really recommend Razer mice to people.

I'm currently using my old Sidewinder X8, which is pretty good, but I'd adjusted to having all those extra buttons on the side, and miss that. I plan to pick up a Logitech G600 before the end of the year.

Woah, palming to the extreme. That's like fully palming a playstation controller, it just wasn't made for that.

So I started playing WOW again. I need my Naga. Bad.

But I was wondering if anybody here had the G600. Wondering how that compares overall to the Naga. If theres a viable alternative to the Naga I would go with that because I really don't like Razer's hardware quality (or lack there of).

I've heard good things about the G600. I plan to purchase one before the end of the year myself to replace my broken Naga. They say the button spacing is a bit off compared to the Naga - the G600 gives more precision due to the larger button size and differing placement from the Naga, but requires more dramatic movements of the thumb to reach the various buttons.

See, I don't hold as palm heavy as you do. But also don't full on claw grip. Which is why I'm not sure what would be comfortable.

And how on earth do you hold a mouse like that? Do you move your whole arm?

Yeah, I pretty much move my whole arm. It turns out I'm more precise that way for some reason. Although, depending on what I'm doing I might change a bit my grip (I might lift my hand a little bit from the mouse, that way I can use my fingers as well to move the mouse around), but most of the time I hold it like that.

Any good small wireless laptop mice I could use for gaming. Preferably something where the buttons don't click so I can game in public areas without disturbing people.

What kind of games do you play and do you play low sens or high sens?

The Naga is heaven and I can't imagine gaming without it.

Logitech has some comparable solutions if you're not a Razer fan.

In any case, many thumb buttons = brilliant.

All types. With a mouse mostly first / third person action games. Low-ish sensitivity...in most games around the 30% setting.
(edit: no MMOs, if that's what you're asking. So I don't need a billion buttons.)

Except, strangely, Bulletstorm, where even at the VERY lowest it's a bit too fast. The hell? Awful PC port.

Sounds strenuous....
...I'll give it a try.

I have the previous version of this mouse and it is a great mouse, it is big and i can handle it well even though i have small hands, the customization is great, has a great DPI, the position of the buttons is good, but it has one problem, the quality of the mouse deteriorates quickly, i dont have sweaty hands and the texture is peeling off and the little grill is rustling after 5 months of use, the mouse itself works great but aesthetically it looks pretty bad now from when i got it, i dont know why cooler master used that kind of texture or if they changed it for this new version.

If you dont care about looks go for this mouse, it look ace when it is new, but after a few months it will look terrible.

Well, I just ordered it. As long as it doesn't affect the function of the mouse I don't really care. It seems to have an unbeatable sensor and set of features for the price range.

Plus, Cooler Master support seems to be good. I'll report back with my findings.

I've got a mx500 mouse with usb polling rate 1000.

How much smoother will a new mouse be I wonder...

I've been using this baby for almost 10 years maybe...

I don't know if this is a standard feature or if it's unique to the Naga, but you can put a profile switch button on the mouse and basically double your keys. For example, I mapped all the Fn keys to another profile.

I think I actually bought mine because of you raving about it in one of your k-tera streams. It certainly gets the job done for that game, especially for certain abilities that require you to hold down a button while moving around (berserker charges, and warrior abilities that let you reposition combo).

So far it's been absolutely awesome and not just for games. I bind pgup/pgdown, home/end and F5 to the side buttons and use it for everyday web browsing.

But yeah, as a recent example in XCOM I could bind abilities, confirm, camera angle spin, and the ability to cycle through soldiers/targets to the side buttons. Glorious turn-based 1-handed gaming.

My Razer Imperator has just started registering double clicks with the 'go back' thumb button. So annoying as this mouse feels perfect in my hand and its probably my favourite mouse. I'm not getting another one though.

So I got a Roccat Kone + and now the same thing is happening again. I don't get it. I don't abuse these mice, the back button gets a moderate amount of use I suppose but I don't use it so much that I'd be wearing them out after a few months. I'm going to assume I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what. My thumb isn't a hammer. Sheesh.

Despite it being a relic it has some of the best tracking of any mouse ever benchmarked. Even with MX518 or G400 the performance isn't going to much better unless you need the dpi. If you're still using low dpi there is no reason to upgrade that mouse.
