That's some sick models. The enviroment ain't all that though.

EDIT: Or rather, the forest enviroment ain't all that. The city looks nice(though unpopulated).
I get a SteamBoy vibe here.

This upcoming generation is going to be known as the one where NO ONE FUCKING SHOWS IN-GAME SHOTS! Hey, look at these crazy angles with ridiculous amounts of depth-of-field. The actually game looks totally different, but doesn't that look COOOOOOL!?

At least they're showing how the game looks

Last but not least, Sega today dated Chromehounds, its forthcoming mech-combat game for the Xbox 360. In development at Tokyo-based From Software (Otogi, Armored Core), the game will ship for Microsoft's next-gen console in spring 2006, around the same time as the PlayStation 3 launch.

Sega did not release any rating or pricing information for Chromehounds. However, it did release a bevy of details on the game, including the fact it will offer both "an absorbing single-player campaign and a fully customizable Xbox Live experience," according to Sega of America vice president of marketing Scott Steinberg. Steinberg also said the game would sport both cooperative and competitive online play and allow players to choose from "thousands of upgrade options, which affect both the look and performance of player mechs."

Sega also said that Chromehounds would have "cooperative and competitive campaigns for up to 12 players" simultaneously, and let players exert squad-based control in "tactics commander" mode. The publisher also promised "photorealistic visuals" of desolate, conflict-swept battlefields.

Man, Mechanical objects get such an awesome boost from higher polygon counts. Much more so than people since more polygons means more square boxes on a mech.

Hopefully because Sega is publishing it, it'll come to the US and not be left in Japan like Metal Wolf Chaos.

ZoE3 with poly counts like those = :D~~

The depth of field makes everything look like toys. At that scale and with those types of lenses there would be nearly perfect focus front to back. Only if the camera is pushed in to a telephoto image or if the light is extremely low would there be any hit of blur.

Though, I should edit this to say that I still think it looks good.

It's not as though light doesn't "bloom" in real life.

Well, its not just the bloom, but mostly the hard shadows. The DOF is over done too. Most of the shots look good though.

nice. is this from the otogi/metal wolf chaos team? if so, i expect gorgeously destructible environments.

looking really really cool. damn, someone get mikami working on a new steel batallion for 360 *droool

Hawt. Come on November..

Yeah cause cities are always packed with onlookers/people going about their normal business when giant mechs are going at it... :p

I don't like the mapping on the treads in this shot, it looks really off, but, you know, these are early shots.

Other than that, though, it looks fantastic. :)

Looks like they borrowed a page from Steel Battalion with the war shading. Mech designs are pretty cool but environments could use some work. Overall this game has some serious potential. Remember this was originally an Xbox game and got moved over to the 360. The hud was pretty crazy looking on the Xbox version it was orange and had lots of info on the screen. Can't wait to see more.

hmmm, i agree about the environments, at least the natural ones. the urban pics look pretty good though. notice that the buildings seem to have quite a bit of depth and detail to them, they arent just square boxes.

but yeah, even those environments could use more "stuff", such as cars, debris, etc

You haven't played many of their PSX, PS2, or GC games, have you? ^^;;;

wellllll...from my limited experience with them:

DC - Frame Gride: Great looking!
PS2 - A.C.E.: Great looking!
Xbox - Otogi/Metal Wolf Chaos - Great looking!

Though I'll give you stuff like Kings Field and Yoshitsune weren't too hot looking. But they do make some nice lookers :)

When i saw the bloom in wreckless and otogi i actually thought "every game in the future should use this".

I TAKE IT BACK !

No, seriously, it may bother in screenshots but it's usually a lot more convincing motion: if you're going for the realistic look you can't overlook your bloom filters. But it should be very subtle, instead of being used only for the purpose of showing "look, we're using bloom filter !"
This looks good.
Also, a next gen Otogi would be nice.

No, they're working on eM, this is from one of the Armored Core teams, actually I think producer of first three AC and Lost Kingdom is behind this.

Looks really good, especially models and lighting, enviroments are dead cause that's how most of AC game looks like, hope they won't screw up game with shit controls.

Press Release - Games Press via gamesindustry.biz

...This squad-based action title puts gamers in control of giant mechanized military weapons of war. With a strong focus on cooperative and competitive online gameplay, the game is sure to satisfy players looking for a deep, involving Xbox Live experience.

Developed by Tokyo-based FROM software - the creative team responsible for the popular Armored Core and Otogi series - CHROMEHOUNDS offers an intense, photo realistic look at war from the cockpits of colossal metal vehicles. These heavily-armed weapons of war, called HOUNDS, dominate ground battles during warfare in the near-future. Squads of HOUNDs take to the field in international factions; cooperating with and complementing each other in terms of firepower, range of movement, and abilities. Domination of the world is the prize for the mightiest army on the field. Strategic planning, snap reflexes and communication are key to winning the day in this battle-hardened action title. Players will take the role of either a Squad Member or a Tactics Commander, who is responsible for strategically guiding the team to victory with verbal commands on Xbox Live...

Key Features

- Photo realistic visuals bring the game's gritty, war-torn environments to life.

- Strategic gameplay puts the player in the role of 'tactics commander'; manage your squad while testing your reflexes on the battlefield.

- Xbox LIVE support offers cooperative and competitive campaigns for up to 12 players at once.

- Full customisation options present users with thousands of different ways to equip and personalize their mechs.

Wow, that looks really really good. Possibly one of the most impressive titles yet shown for the 360. Oddly enough, it has a certain look to it that reminds me of Wreckless...but more detailed.
