The plot looks good. At first, I had a feeling like they were going to pull off one of those “Seed/Cult of Chucky” plots where you had to endure the entire family of Chucky’s. It’s great they went back to the kid and the doll. That’s the stuff that scared me as a kid. That reboot they did was alright. I wonder if Mark Hamill is done then? He wasn’t bad, but Dourif has the iconic voice.

IIRC isn’t this supposed to follow Cult? So this is just one of the many Chucky dolls out there. Could make for some fun seasons that introduce new characters and settings.

I just don't understand the idea of having a teenager walking around with a doll. It looks kinda weird. I thought the kid in the new movie was way too old for that too.
I think it works best with a young child like in the original movies, but I guess that's just me
He starts off as buying the doll because it’s retro, so we don’t know if the murders of Charles Lee Ray are part of pop culture or not. I sorta get that if Chucky were going to threaten the kid then there’s a reason to why he takes the doll to school with him.

Yeah. The straight to home films didn’t give them a lot of room to tell stories beyond their initial premise.

Yeah I was bothered by that as well. He would've been bullied in 5 seconds in real life.

A new trailer that shows a lot more than the initial reveal. I wouldn’t watch it if you wanted to go in without knowing anything. This show looks fantastic. I don’t own any Real TV service, so maybe I can watch it on a free trial once they all air. Too bad you can’t just pay for SYFY monthly instead of having to get a big bundle for $60 a month.

Finally some teen gay romance. That's what I always wanted in Chucky

All depends on how they handle it. It's a Chucky TV show, so I am expecting some sillyness and it not to be some slacktivist-bent writing. Especially given how they handled the previous two films.

I don't think it's going to be a big deal in all honesty. Same writer as the entire movie series. So I'm willing to have faith

I did. It was pretty good. They had to stretch some things to make it believable, but overall
I am looking forward to watching it. You’re basically getting to watch what most of the trailers have already shown. It’s good to see it picking up, so I’ll definitely watch it. Chucky came off scarier than he has been in a while, which is a huge plus.

I can understand how Andy would find him via a GoFundMe or an auction with the name Chucky in it. I also wonder if Andy is somewhere constantly googling or looking up auctions since he knows there’s a bunch of Chucky’s out there.

This is where Jake and Chucky are on stage together. It’s a good scene, but you feel like they exposed the whole “doll coming to life” bit because Chucky really puts on a performance. Until this part in the show. Chucky hasn’t come to life yet.it did end on a high note and it made me want to watch more.

It doesn't work as a series. This should've been a movie.
They could only do so much with a movie. With a movie you can tell a story for 1.5-2 hours. Here you can tell stories, expand upon ideas and each episode is an hour long. If they catch your attention then there’s hope it’ll get better. With a film you have to wait 3-4 years for them to find time to film the next one. I’m kinda indecisive on this. I see your point and to some extent I agreed with you for a while. Curse and Cult were much better than Seed, but even then it felt like it took forever for them to make another one. You can do so much more if you have multiple episodes. It’ll be a real shame if they mess this up. There’s a lot of potential with this TV series.

Liking it so far, my big concern is the trailers seem to be foreshadowing a team up of kids to take down Chucky. Not a big fan if that's what happens. Didn't like it in the Child's Play remake and don't want this Stranger Things vibe in Chucky either.

I enjoyed that first episode, the show has some potential. It really just depends on where they go with the story.

Chucky having this reluctant accomplice that looks the other way while Chucky does evil shit in an effort to make his life better could have some seriously mileage.

That said I don't think they'll go that route, since they made it a big point that he was bullied and becoming a bullied murderer to other kids probably isn't a storyline that's gonna fly on TV.

That first episode was....something. And unless I'm forgetting one, that ep had Chucky's weirdest kill sequence. Like I guess he has Garbage Pail Kid abilities now? =P

You mean
where he puked the alcohol onto the floor? lol I started to laugh when he did that. It was creepy seeing him walk up to the kid while the lights were flickering and making that crazy facial gesture.

Yeah I'd never seen him use such a method to kill someone before(That I remember). It came out like a full power hose and everything too. =P

I see that point but tv today tells me the plot is gonna drag from being stretched to fit a whole season, and then it'll end with an unsatisfying cliffhanger season finale. The first episode alone had a lot of filler moments in it and not enough Chucky.

Have to admit I didn't really like how it started, but halfway through it finally clicked (the talent show scene), and peaked with the hilariously over-the-top kill. I'm on board for more.

I enjoyed it. Didn’t expect the whole protagonist being gay thing, but everything has to be woke these days, so it’s to be expected. Still, I think they handled it very well. Jake is a likable character. I’m going to watch the entire series because I’m a Chucky junkie. Definitely liking what I’ve seen so far. I hope Andy plays a nice part in this.

I’m surprised the show is on YouTube. They must realize that a lot of people don’t have live Tv or whatever they call cable these days. I haven’t watched last night’s episode, but it looks pretty good.

How is it woke? There’s no politics in the first two episodes at all.

Eh, the writing does come across as blatantly slacktivist in the first episode. The main character is gay, that is the defining characteristic they gave him. His father is a homophobe. His cousin is in-the-closet, etc. It comes across as tokenism, which is a signature characteristic for slacktivist-bent writing. Its the difference between a character who is *is* gay and a Gay Character. The latter is the defining characteristic. The former is just a part of who they are.

Thankfully it seems most of these they are working towards fixing if Episode 2 is anything to go by. Giving them more personality traits and expanding upon their motivations and character dynamics. Hopefully they continue to do this.

His defining characteristic is that he is bullied and unpopular... which gay kids often are. I don't think his cousin is in the closet? Never got that from the first two episodes.

The longing looks and intimacy between the cousin and the podcaster, plus the constant "you are gay" pokes and prods during the dinner scene is all very heavy handed "I AM IN THE CLOSET!" style writing. Very tropey and common in that kind of character writing.

As for the MC, they really wanted to hammer in that he was a GAY character and not a character that is gay. Constant mentions, it being a prevailing, ever present, and heavy handed presence in that first episode - it was a bit too much, IMO.

But anyways, only the first episode felt like blatant slacktivist-bent writing for me, hence why I tried to explain where the other user may have been coming from. Second was much better with almost zero of those problems. Excited to see where they take the series from here.

The first episode was actually written by Don Mancini, who wrote the screenplay for the original 1988 Child's Play film. He's also gay.. maybe he was trying to incorporate some of his own person experience into the story. Anyway, the pilot episode is usually just a way to introduce characters and basic plot lines for a series. Really the only reference to his sexuality in the second episode was the "7 minutes in hell" thing which is commonly done by straight teenagers, too.

I don't see the cousin as gay, though. He has that bitch girlfriend.

Very true, which is why I gave the show a chance.

As for the cousin, that is just how I saw it. Could be that he is straight - but it is also a very common trope that a gay kid hides behind having a girlfriend.

The podcast kid is friends with the cousin. The cousin understands that his friend likes Jake, but Jake doesn’t like his cousin. That’s at least how I see it.

After watching the 2nd episode
Charles was a strange kid. That opening scene took me by surprise. He must have been born with that crazy mind of his. I’m interested to see if they make Jake a killer. That was such a cruel thing to do to him at the party.
