Sadly this wont change until its embraced at a lower level and what I mean by that is for the last 25 years I have worked with a lot of kids in Baseball and have been around a lot of area High School Athletic Depts and Soccer is the sport kids play when they can’t play the main sports

The vast majority of our young truly gifted athletes will not go into Soccer

Yeah, if you're a truly gifted athlete in North America, soccer is the last sport you should get into. Developmental programs are almost nonexistent and there's probably half a dozen better players between Europe and Africa for every good young North American soccer players.

it's also a genuinely great game that is fun to play for seasoned gamers and casuals alike.

also, Canadians really like them some NHL, eh? Every time I think "wow EA is dead compared to their former glory in the mid 00s" the Circa charts come by and slap me in the face with EA just rakes it in with Madden, FIFA, CFB and NHL. They're still selling plenty, they just don't make games for gamers anymore.

I don't think there's really anything that guarantee proof short of something from Nintendo. It could have absolutely have failed, and we all saw the crusade to make that happen, but thankfully the team really poured a lot of love into it that resonated with the fans.

well, thing is, no one saw this game succeeding on nearly such a massive scale as its managed to. avalanche software had spent the previous dozen years making disney infinity & other disney/pixar related games. so while maybe no one expected the game to outright fail, what's occurred has greatly surpassed everyone's (even warner bros) expectation...
