Yeah, not dunking on Yoga here, but DK cracked the top 20 with a fraction of the user base. The user base of PS5 is around 75M, plus is the big PS exclusive game of the year… There's no excuse, the game flopped hard.

Correct.
Kepler Interactive (the publisher) is not an NPD/Circana partner, they don't report sales.
Not entirely accurate, in the comparable things we can track (the UK physical sales and JP sales), it's behind DS1.
We don't know the complete digital comparison between the two.

We shall see in the end of the year. But I'm pretty sure the sales numbers will suffice and the game was already profitable for a so called "niche game". For a game that is very much hated by bitter and jealous pc, nintendo, and xbox fans just because its not multiplatform at launch, and also by Kojima haters and against Nintendo Switch 2 launch period, DS2 July numbers is still a win. They don't provide sales data iirc.adamsapple I need an adult
Now the big question is are things going to get better or worse for Nintendo when they unleash their Pokémon bundle over the holidays? To some around here, this answer is easy. To others whose narratives are being rekt daily...they have to perform mental gymnastics to continue down their rabbit holes of denial.69.....
Big console declines all around. Switch 2 is luckily here to save the day.
Talent always winsDonkey Kong Bananza (physical) has outsold Death Stranding 2 (physical+digital). Pretty impressive for an exclusive game on a 2M user base.
I don't know why you called this game "niche" when the game has all the ingredients that the PlayStation fanbase likes… story driven, gorgeous graphics, exclusive and the beloved Kojima. On the paper is a winning formula. What's the issue here?We shall see in the end of the year. Last year had the rebirth of College Football, which was current gen exclusive. PS5 went up 25% and Xbox Series went up 48%. This year's College Football didn't have that effect. Is Switch 2 eating from the other consoles cake then or something released last year that made numbers go up compared to 2025?
The gameplay is above mediocre, but the technical aspects of the game are top notch, and before that was the most important aspect for the PS user base. It looks like that those audience moved to PC. I can see DS2 doing great on PC.Nothing really standing out to me here. I could care less how well DS2 is selling. I thought the game was fantastic and I don't need a part 3.
Yea but the gameplay is niche as hell which you conveniently left out because you know this already.
Ds2 is a niche game, I admit that, but it is still an impressive number and will get better as we approach end of the year. I think even Kojima never expected a 5 to 10 million numbers at launch for Ds2. I think 2 million worldwide right now is decent enough. Anyway what matters is the game beautiful, very based, none of that woke twisted gender ideology crap and one of the best game this era.Yeah, not dunking on Yoga here, but DK cracked the top 20 with a fraction of the user base.
Being Ps5 exclusive will suffice. Ds1 directors cut on PC and steam are not very good. It will just turned into another spiderman 2, and horizon lego. PC port will just be a risk and add expenses to Sony and Kojima team. The Ps5 numbers will suffice and Kojima team and Sony will just move on to there next gen project which is Physint. The gameplay is above mediocre, but the technical aspects of the game are top notch, and before that was the most importan aspect for the PS user base. Dude, this is pure cope and I say that with love and respect for you. People only started calling it niche when it was obvious it underperformed. Yes, it's "niche" compared to Assassin's Creed but it's not "niche" like Silent Hill or Everybody's Golf. It's a big budget sequel made by Kojima exclusive to PlayStation where the majority of his fanbase is. The game flopped because people weren't interested. It is what it is.Ds2 is a niche game
The userbase is always a bad excuse. Games sell consoles, not the other way around. People don't just buy consoles and sit around waiting for games, they buy them when games they're interested in are available.Yeah, not dunking on Yoga here, but DK cracked the top 20 with a fraction of the user base.
Exactly, the game has all the elements to be a huge PS franchise.Dude, this is pure cope and I say that with love and respect for you. so... death stranding bomb?
Non-mobile subscription (+21%, $0.5B)![]()
Gamepass?
switch performing at this level in the west should be an eye opening thing for sony. Unlike the Wii to Wii U situation, nintendo is seeing the same success SO FAR that they saw with the first switch, which put them at 150 M+ units. We shall see if it continues, but switch 2 is blowing away all expectation especially at a $449/$499 price point.
Gamepass?
And those are July numbers "the slowest months", November and December numbers are going to be huge.Never mind the same success +75% increases Gen on Gen!!!!
It's definitely Everybody's Golf tier, a 3-4M range series while Death Stranding sold 4.3M units on PS4 in a bit over two years (and months after a permanent price cut to $40). The concern trolling is cute for a little bit, but let's not pretend otherwise.Dude, this is pure cope and I say that with love and respect for you. Bro got excited real fast thinking its Gamepass that pushed it.It's all subscriptions services. So Ubisoft+, EA, Ps+, GP, Nintendo Online or whatever they call it. There's no real way to know but you'll know it's gamepass when MS is bragging about Gamepass like they used to.
Everybody's Golf will not sell anywhere close to 3-4 million. It's definitely Everybody's Golf tier, a 3-4M range series while Death Stranding sold 4.3M units on PS4 in a bit over two years (and months after a permanent price cut to $40). From the start, I know DS is a niche game. Even Ds1 was called a niche when it was release. I don't even like it when Ds1 was announced but I became curious and tried it, and I was shock that I enjoyed Ds1.Dude, this is pure cope and I say that with love and respect for you. Don't get me wrong, DKB is a great game, one of the top contenders for game of the year. DK was 100% expected to top the charts. DK is one of the most well loved franchise in history of gaming, just like Mario for Nintendo, or Halo for Xbox or GOW for Sony, nothing can beat that. Add to that Nintendo is the goat right now, the home for true exclusives especially beloved franchise games like Mario, Pokemon, DK, etc. While PS is losing so many fans and alienating many PS owners, for porting exclusives to other platforms, not to mention PS exclusives are so few in this Ps5 era. And worse, Sony focusing on woke infested gaas instead of reviving beloved Sony IP.
4M was overselling it, perhaps, but 3M? >2M is pretty much what it used to do in USA + Japan alone.Everybody's Golf will not sell anywhere close to 3-4 million.
To be fair 480k imo seems quite a drops for the second month of the year launch."Nintendo Switch 2 drove July's hardware spending growth. July dollar sales of PS5 hardware fell 47% compared to a year ago, while Xbox Series spending dropped by 69%."
But...no one's buying it, right?
Remember that the second month was July, not December or November. To be fair 480k is quite a drops for the second month of the year launch.
It used to be relevant but nowadays it's extremely niche. The audience that bought them have aged out of gaming. It's going to sell less than Astrobot despite being multiplatform, even after multiple years at deep discounts across multiple storefronts. I wish that wasn't the case.4M was overselling it, perhaps, but 3M? >2M is pretty much what it used to do in USA + Japan alone.
The new game will flop, sure, but that's because it's a low effort, licensed BNE title.
Remember that the second month was July, not December or November.
Ok but 480k for the second month it's quite a drops.Remember that the second month was July, not December or November.
Only if it's coming from PC. Console sales are flatlining so I don't think that would see growth. Maybe the increase is mainly from Nintendo subs?Gamepass?
Well yes, especially if you're coming from the biggest first month for a console ever. But taking into consideration it was July is a solid number + +75% in the first two months compared to Switch 1. We should wait for the big months to have a better metric.Ok but 480k for the second month it's quite a drops.
You are new to Death Stranding IP sales? Never move a shit.Donkey Kong Bananza (physical) has outsold Death Stranding 2 (physical+digital). Pretty impressive for an exclusive game on a 2M user base.
Sony... with literally doing nothing but taking the 30% cut from all games released on PS5:

July isn't a big month. PS4 in its first July (I know it's not the same, since it launched in November, but still) was 187K. 480k is pretty good.Ok but 480k for the second month it's quite a drops.
To be fair 480k imo seems quite a drops for the second month of the year launch.
Mental gymnastics.Ok but 480k for the second month it's quite a drops.
Launching the console in June had the risks of not having two big months compared to launch the system in November but in the other hand Nintendo now has the chance of stoke pile consoles for November and December and have a bigger user base for the holiday season software.July isn't a big month. PS4 in its first July (I know it's not the same, since it launched in November, but still) was 187K. 480k is pretty good.
Will be interesting to see if Switch or Xbox Series finishes third in units for the year.July - Units Switch 3 XBS 4, Dollars XBS 3 Switch 4
YTD - Units and Dollars XBS 3 Switch 4
Ok but 480k for the second month it's quite a drops.
Switch 2 dropped to a third. DiddyKongRacing69 redeemed.Ok but 480k for the second month it's quite a drops.
Source? It still sold much better than DS1 at the same period.
