Circana - April 2025 U.S. Video Game Market Highlights - Oblivion Remastered #1, Forza Horizon 5 #2, MLB The Show '25 #3

Most obvious reason to me is because Microsoft is putting out a lot of games.

And stock, in Southern IN anyhow, is super low

Was running around this past weekend and saw one Series S sitting on a shelf in a WalMart and several in Best Buy but neither store had a single Series X

Or people finally realizing that buying an Xbox for Gamepass to play Microsoft games makes sense to avoid paying full prices.

It's probably just reached it's bottom now. It's been dropping for how many quarters now since like 2023? If my sales drop from 1 million to 500,000 to 125,000 then to 1,000. Then it goes up to 1,500 that's a huge percentage increase but is it really a good thing?

Indiana Jones was not really selling in the US, damn. Forza 5's bumps in monthly and year-to-date show a massive gulf between the two even with Indiana being a December 2024 release.

So, you think if Sony releases GT on Xbox is not going to sell at lear 1 million of Copies… Or the Last Of Us?

Doesn't really matter. Sony isn't willing to hurt their console sales to sale software. MS and Sony aren't operating with the same strategy in mind that's what you are failing to understand. One company still wants to sell consoles the other company doesn't care about that anymore and only wants to sell as many games as they can. Sony is willing to hurt their software sales in order to increase their hardware sales. Xbox is no longer willing to do that.

This has to eat MS up. They almost had the games, they almost made it, but were forced to go multiplatform right before they all came out.

They walked for 40 years in the desert only to be struck down(to 3rd party) by greed right before reaching the promised land.

Meanwhile....

Microsoft are laughing all the way to the bank.

They have the games and it's showing in the sales.

Are folks just now realizing that PlayStation fans do in fact by games from third party publishers?
When PS fans continually tell you at every opportunity that they are not interested in any first-party Xbox games, that these are second-class games, etc.... you can also understand that there are people who are surprised to see a list that paints that picture. Is it a possibility??

That said, even if we weren't talking about MS, the fact that a publisher puts 6/10 games on the best-seller list is already interesting and surprising.

What sales? Nobody is buying on Xbox.

And yet, studios and publishers keep releasing games on Xbox like never before... Even Kojima thinks it's interesting🙇

And Sony is making 30% of all those sales without lifting a finger, no production budgets no marketing, no nothing...

I do wonder if MS is looking at Gamepass and thinking if it's the way to go.

You realize that you can't take what one person says and extrapolate that to millions of people right? Also a good chunk of current PlayStation owners are previous Xbox owners.

These are good sales numbers but these games failing to sell Xboxes is how we got here in the first place lol.

Folks can say they despise EA games as well but that isn't going to stop the games from showing up on the sales charts.

Weird how Microsoft has more sellers in playstations top 10 then the actual number of games Sony has released this year 😂
They learned from Nintendo based on them having more Wii U titles released on Switch than new games for the first few years.

The most surprising being MS announcing and releasing games this fast, like Indiana Jones, Forza and Oblivion released weeks apart, Gears and Hellblade 2 announced for this summer, probably other games coming as well, I mean why the rush ?

This is a fantastic strategy from Sony. Let MS pay for the development of all the games, then sit back and count the dough. Fucking god-tier stuff.

If you try hard, maybe you'll understand that there's a reason why those studios and publishers keep releasing their games on Xbox more than ever?

Of course, it was an exaggeration, a joke on my part, LOL. But it's not just a thought or a manifestation of a one o few people here 😉

It was a joke on my part...LOL. because there are quite a few people who have expressed themselves like that continuously here.😅

It's funny because, as you say, you only have to look at the annual best-seller lists and 90% are multiplatform games, and almost 95% are identical on PS and Xbox lists.

EA and Ubisoft wish they had fans like Microsoft do.

Maybe they just need to also release hardware that nobody wants in order to attain the level of support seen throughout this thread.

I fail to see how is a bad thing for Sony releasing a +2 years old games on others consoles 🤷‍♂️.
Because Sony would rather not do that and let people on Xbox keep selling their consoles and getting a PS. It will also put all those Xbox one users who are still on the old system a really hard choice whether to stick with Xbox or just move to PS. The choice becomes harder if PS games are still only on PS with Sony showing no willingness to budge on that.

ah.....went over my head. lol. Yeah....rhetoric like that rarely reflects reality.

Or great strategy from Microsoft too… Let Sony users pay the full price and Xbox users pay for GP.
If anything this may make MS analyse their Gamepass stratgy better. We haven't heard anything about a huge increase for Gamepass subscriptions...even with COD releasing there.
Playstation even had more sales this past COD release. Weird stuff.
