I hope this game is great and sells 10 million copies and makes Square Enix look absolutely foolish.

I'd also love for Sony to contract them to remake Legend of Dragoon. I think the battle system with parrying might be interesting/engaging.

Its also the whole semi-realtime aspects, remember how Lost Odyssey had the Ring System that was Semi-Realtime.
 
Great trailer.

My main worry based on some of the previous footage was that this would turn out like FFXIII. Just walking through linear but nice looking environments fighting enemies.
To see a sort of overworld map and an actual town puts a lot of those worries to rest.

It's probably going to run poorly on consoles and low-mid tier PC's.
At least it's turn based so 30fps isn't quite as much of a dealbreaker as in other games (hopefully there's at least a 40fps option though).
 
Wow this looks like a proper next gen turn based jrpg albeit with a french twist. Reminds me of a 3d version of those recent 2dhd jrpgs.

For some reason the game is 50€ on steam instead of the usual 60+, nice.

ahh that overworld map it reminds me FFtype-0 style for it even nino kuni world map





so missing nowadays.....open world system its just so boring sandbox with repeated too much questlines or such
 
Looks quite nice, the combat system will make or break it, it's most of the gameplay outside wandering about and progressing the story. Hopefully it's not too annoying with the button mashing, more Chrono Cross than Legend of Dragoon. Why's everyone acting like overworld doesn't exist in JRPG any more or something, we have everything from just maps or classic style like Harvestella to full scale like Xenoblade & Dragon Quest. Not everything has to have one, SMT never did for folks to act like because Atlus doesn't have it it's gone from every JRPG. Even Dynasty Warriors: Origins has one. It's really only Final Fantasy that used to have it and doesn't any more because Square keeps trying to make FF into Kingom Hearts or Devil May Cry or whatever but they keep it in other games that are more traditional. Not every JRPG had it back in the day either, they tried different approaches🤷‍♂️

This is an AA game. It's an indie dev with a small team of employees. It won't have extreme AAA levels of polish and that's perfectly fine.

I've read that the main quest is 25-30 hours and side quests and extras can push it to about 40.

Not short by any means and $50 is a fair price if the game is good.

Can't believe this just started as a few peoples project and it got to this stage and looks so good on their FIRST project.

This looks insane. One of my most anticipated RPG in 2025.

Completely irrelevant.

Astro Bot and Stellar Blade were AA titles as well.
(Both games I have no interest in either, btw)

Clair Obscur is an art term that describe a painting, picture ... with strong contrast between light and dark.
Such as this one :

So it's in the game's theme which is the painting : "the Paintress", one character is called Renoir whom is a famous painter....


Game is still looking fantastic to me. A day one for me. I want to reward the dev for going back to classic JRPG with turn based, airship, world map... And I love the setting of the game.

Hope it will meet great success and show to the big JRPG dev that old school JRPG formula can still work.

This is the game I'm the most looking forward to in 2025. I was worried it would be delayed, this is great news!

Very different scale.
311 people were on stellar blade and they have a ton of previously released games.
Astro bot Dev is 60 but they used a ton of outsourcing, it was easily in the hundreds, also their third entry in the series.

Sandfall is 35 people and it's their first game, the studio was founded in 2020. If SB and astro bot are AA, this is below that.

Doesn't matter either.

Besides, I said the game looks mediocre and visually cluttered. That doesn't mean it's going to be a bad game or a complete disaster.
 
Just watched the game overview video. Definitely a day one for me. It looks so unique and is really a love letter to old school JRPG.

Objectively it can look a bit rough visually here and there (and a bit concerned about the parry/dodge mechanics which could trivialize the combat) but visuals and performance have no influence on my liking of games.
Overall it looks awesome and love the art direction and strong choice they made.

In the overview video, they say you could adjust the combat system. It's not clear if it's options to turn on/off or just that the system is done in a way that you could more or less ignore the timed based parry/dodge and mitigate that with items.
But they say that people who don't like real time element could just play classic turn base and make use of items, etc... and ignore the real time stuff. EDIT : rewatched this section "People who are not into real time, can use item to counterbalance that". So looks like the system is made to reward player who the use the real time sutff to make bonus damage or negate damage, and you can play "old school" and use potion and stuff to heal you etc... Not sure, pure turn based player will like it.
They made many iteration of the system to find a good balance for turn based lover and Real time lover. Now will it have best of both world ? Or will it's unique thing that's not for everybody ? Only time will say.
I am very enthusiastic for this game and I salute their will to follow their vision and to make this game stand out from others, but the combat system is where I have reserve till I play it.

It has great graphics, it's fully voice-acted, and the music is great. Its production values are AAA. Budget-wise, It's a low-tier AAA, very much like Returnal or Demons Souls remake. AA is Ninja Gaiden 4, for example.

That's fine, but if so, it supports me saying it looks mediocre.
It would still come across as mediocre, but it'd be more impressive for an AA title than for an AAA(-ish) title.

It cannot be 'lower tier AAA' with 35 devs max, working with a publisher that typically doesn't fund AAA titles.

Budget wise, it'd be significantly cheaper than Returnal, Ninja Gaiden 4 or Demon Souls Remake.
