This got pooped on. Badly. I think I'm just really bad at using the balloon.

Also not sure I need arrows and bomb tower since they both do the same thing for the most part, stopping swarms.

Been experimenting a lot and not sure what combo I can use to break out of the 800-1000 trophy range.

thats almost similar to my deck with only 2 cards different. I'm using collector and giant instead of musketeer and prince.

I send the giant first so he gets locked on and then send the balloon with my arrows ready just in case a wild minion horde or minion appear

I was basically doing that only with Prince filling the roll of distraction/tank for the balloon. Same cost and Prince is faster, in both movement speed and ability to destroy a tower if he goes uncountered... The problem is if he is countered he's a lot easier to take down than a giant would be, especially with arrows, so yeah maybe I'll swap him out. Either way, the entire maneuver takes a full bar of elixer, so I typically end up losing to them countering my push with elixer to spare to mount their own offensive in my opposite lane.
 
I've been pushing a boulder uphill, played for an hour and only got 7 crowns and 1 small win out of it. Everyone is outclassing me now, Jesus.
 
well abandoned my mortar deck for a 3 musketeer deck. Doing alright so far. Got Princess in crown chest today so now I have at least one of every card.

Fyi- you take arrows away from that deck and they have a minion army, you're in for a rough time

Good point. I did take arrows away and I've been winning a little more consistently, but I'm still in the arena 3 trench so I haven't come across a minion army yet. Definitely not satisfied with it yet tho.
 
Good changes all around coming in 2 days:

- Gold: Receive Gold for each win, even when your chest slots are full
- Crown Chest: Contains twice as much!
- Super Magical Chest: Chance to drop doubled!
- Giant and Magical Chests: Chance to drop increased!
- Donations/Requests: Increases as you reach higher Arenas
- Card Shop: Legendary Cards can appear once you've reached the Legendary Arena

Preparing to abandon my mortar deck, this one has carried me to 3.2k

Skeleton, Cannon, Zap, Archers
Hog, Goblins, Lightning, Minion Horde
 
Made it to Arena 7 (Royale) as a F2P player. Feels good, man. I fully expect to be knocked back down soon, but I'm actually experiencing decent success so far - have three A7 chests to open.

Deck:

Goblin Hut (L5)
Barb Hut (L5)
Barbarians (L8)
Wizard (L5)
Musketeer (L5)
Mini Pekka (L5)
Arrows (L7)
Prince (L2)

Generally open with one or both of the huts. The 4 barbs are used on defense to shut down hog rider, PEKKA, Musketeer, etc. Mini Pekka is fucking INCREDIBLE on offense if you can sneak him into range behind other units, but he's often used on defense as well, placed to take out an opponent's Wizard or other high-value target, or sacrificed to take out a defense structure.

Deck is very high mana cost and usually loses to people doing things like tossing goblins to one side of the map then placing prince on the other side - I usually don't have a chance to respond to both.

Most common win condition for me is to place both huts on one side, and almost all players, even at high levels, over-commit to defense. If they place 2x units in defense, I usually drop barbs/pekka/prince + wizard on the other side and burn down the open tower. If they clean up the barb/goblin attack more intelligently, or get too aggressive for my deck to get going, I usually lose.

Took me 246 total wins to get here.
 
If I'm level 4, and everyone I'm playing has a Prince, can I safely assume that they paid for them? I didn't think you could get one for free that early.

By the time I was level 4 I'd gotten Witch in the training area (first chest in the game) Prince from an arena 1 chest and Balloon from an arena 2 chest. Have paid zero dollars to play.
 
Oh, good to know. I guess I got the Witch instead of the Prince, and man I wish I had that guy instead. But I've been using a Mini PEKKA with an escort to try the same kind of blitz attack.
 
I've had a witch and a prince for a long time and if I had to give one of them up I'd keep my witch. She's been in every deck I've used so far. She won't take a tower by herself if unchecked like the prince will, but she's useful in far more situations. Prince just seems OP because you might not have any of his best counters yet. As a matter of fact, witch is one of his counters (her skellies tank his charge + she does good damage to him). Along with barbarians, or skeleton + a ranged unit like musketeer or spear gobs.

I'm hovering around 1k-1.1k trophies, bouncing back and forth between arenas 3 and 4 due to barely maintaining a 50/50 win rate but I'm up against people who are 1-2 levels higher than me CONSISTENTLY which I think is bs. I'm only level 5 and I'd say 80% of my games are against people level 6 and the other 20% is level 7. Seems like I'm just at a wall cause I need to level up some more.

I guess the caliber of games I've been playing lately has been more entertaining than the series of roflstomps I distributed on my way here. I just gotta get used to losing more I guess.

Thanks man. It's interesting to consider that every piece in this game has it's trump role, I just wish it was easier to level epic cards.

And about the frustrating matchmaking, it's almost as if they purposefully mismatch to their own financial gain! Frustrating enough to spend a little money...

We've talked about this a lot in this thread. The matchmaking is fine. You just need to be patient and level up your cards.
 
I am doing extremely well with this deck

Skeleton, spear goblins, balloon, baby dragon, bomb tower, minions, musketeer, fireball

Pretty great all around so far. Has a lot of answers and some surprises. I shot up into Arena 4 after being stuck in Arena 3 for a long time using it and am holding my own in 4 well.
 
I'm in an aussie time zone and repeatedly find that competition in the morning my time is a pushover (trophies go up) then in the evening, when europe is awake and east coast is waking, competition is more difficult (trophies go down).

I wonder if people playing at different times around the clock are harder, or more easy, at the same trophy level, simply by virtue of the number of people who tend to be online then. Evening my time would be a much larger player base, I suspect, than morning my time. More people playing = better average skill at same trophy level?
Due to the nature of the game where you tend to wake up with enough space to battle.

IIRC he's spent $5,000 on the game, but he's an expert on all the cards and their counters and hovers around 4,000 trophies. He's super passionate about the game too so he's pretty entertaining if you enjoy Clash Royale at all.

Not too excited about 3 new legendaries.

I'm around 2600, f2p and haven't had one drop yet. This is just 3 new cards I won't get and will have to counter.
 
I left me clan and deleted my account, uninstalled and wiped it all out...there is no going back..no more punishing and slightly evil match making (that is so not based only on trophies) designed to make you want to spend money...feels goodman.

You have to keep in mind that people HAVE to take it out because it will otherwise stay up for a minute. It changes the game if it goes away after 40 seconds, and it'll make it much easier to kill since its HP will drop 33% faster. I don't expect it to be used much anymore, tbh. At the very least, I don't think we'll see people spam 5+ bomb towers a match.

Sparky seems to be the equivalent of a movable boom cannon from Boom Beach. The rate of fire seems very slow so cheap units like skeletons and goblins will make it difficult for Sparky to be effective. I also think it will be useless against spawner decks, unless you attack the opposite lane of the huts.

edit: holy hell, nevermind. that thing does splash damage LOL!
 
We'll have to see about how it all plays out but if you need the new legendaries to stay competitive even at the lower arenas (saw lots of ice wiz and princess even at arena 6 for instance) I am out.
