they all seem like retreads of other characters. not sure if I'm liking this...

hell, I'm actually extremely disappointed in nearly every single tidbit of info we've gotten about S4. FUCK.

Man, I'm gonna have to go with Costanza. I'm not really digging anything about S4 (except S3 stuff left over) so far.

:( Matt.

Anywho, guess Riggins is staying in Dillon? Ugh.

Hopefully these new characters come off great. Nobody liked Smash when we first met him.

You guys worry too much. :D

Probably.

It's just way hard seeing so much change. Especially new/old character wise.

Also the fact the the wrong player left :/.

I hope they new characters are (much) more than their tidbit descriptions.

To be fair, nothing was really unique or mulitdimensional about Saracen, Smash, Street, Riggins, etc when we first met them.

We'll see how these characters evolve.

I'm not that worried about it - the writer's have earned a lot of trust. The way I've always seen FNL is that if you read a snapshot summary for the characters, they sometimes seem like cliches (e.g. star quarterback has career ending injury and must readjust to life without football), but the strength of the show is how they and write them in surprising and memorable ways. The starting point isn't what defines them for me.

FNL characters are all 'sports movies cliches' though, at least they start off like that, it's when they sort of went beyond that that they became endearing. I mean, how would you sum up Matt in a paragraph, or Smash, Street or Riggins?

The Coach's daughter who hates football.

The supportive Coach's wife who wants to do more.

Shy, average back up quarterback has to step up.

Cocky, stereotypically black star player.

All American star quarterback gets injured.

Naive head cheerleader.

etc etc etc.

It'll work out fine, I think.

Guys.

Guys.

These people made Season 3 of Friday Night Lights. I think season 4 will turn up atleast bearable, if not outstanding.

Thats is very, very true.

I'm just mad i don't have DirectTV to watch it as it airs first. Will it be on Hulu next day or will I have to resort to...other means?

We just very recently (last week actually) switched away from DTV.

So I'm in the same boat as you now.

I've finally begun my on-off rewatch of S3.

Still awesome

"Can I ask you why this means so much to you?"

"...Because I need something good to happen."

This is such a brilliant line in retrospect. The viewer only thinks about the past, what just happened to him. Taylor's mind is all about the future. The terrible future ahead. :-/

New interview with Zach Gilford (Saracen):

Cute Zach Gilford who plays Matt Saracen on "Friday Night Lights" is co-starring with Alexis Bledel, formerly of "The Gilmore Girls" in a new summer rom-com called Post Grad. The two play best friends who end up as a couple. While chatting about the film, we asked Matt wazzup with his character Matt on the show. Both he and Minka Kelly are returning to wrap up their character exits.

TeenTelevision: There are rumors that Matt is getting an exit arc on "Friday Night Lights"?
Zach: Yeah. As far as I know.

TeenTelevision: How many episodes will it be?
Zach: I don't know any specifics really. I wish I did.

TeenTelevision: Scott Porter got such great stories last season. Does that make you excited to see what they have in mind for Matt?
Zach: Yeah. I love the show with all my heart. I think they do a good job of writing stories. They've always done really well by me so I think they've done a lot to work as far as who this kid is and his grandmother and his relationships in the town. I'm curious to see what happens. So I was like, I'm not leaving right away'.

TeenTelevision: It's been picked up for two more years?
Zach: Yeah. We all knew from the beginning there was going to be this revolving door of characters. It's supposed to be about high school so if you're not in high school anymore, it's kind of strained from what the show is supposed to be about. We all expected it and we were interested in finding out where certain characters that we thought were seniors in the first season were, in fact, now. And the second season, when we thought they were second-year seniors, they in fact were not. So some people's livespans have been prolonged.

TeenTelevision: Minka (Kelly) said she'd be back for a couple of guest episodes?
Zach: I think everyone is. I don't know.

TeenTelevision: When do you go back to work?
Zach: September.

Totally blah but hey, it's an interview.

*S4 spoilers* Ausiello with the casting listings for three new series regulars and one regular guest star. Let's us know a bit about where next season is headed and who the new faces will be. No one has been cast in these parts yet. *S4 spoilers*
Those first three characters sound good and have potential, but that last one argh (at least she is only recurring), i hope this show dosen't gear to much into soap opera territory like season 2.:(
And while i like riggins, i'm going get sick of him if he dosen't move on and stay in dillion.:lol especially since it may cheapen all the growth he went through in season 3...

Argh at the last one as well. Actually, i don't mind a character like this if written well. It's the Riggins part is what bothers me. If the
sleeping around again thing is true, they've already cheapened his development a bit. Not that i'd expect him and Lyla to last, but
i'm just not interested in seeing this side of him again and don't want them to introduce a new character for these antics.

I do, however, think he is the most believable of the cast to have stick around Dillon, so i'm not really bothered by that side of things, as long as they give the character worthwhile stories.

The season 3 finale provided adequate closure for her, to be honest. I'm not that bothered. I mean, i'd love to see her again, but it's not make or break for me. What else can they really add to her arc?

Really, short of Landry & Julie, I couldn't care less if any of them came back. Their arcs were well wrapped in S3.

Tyra doesn't have to come back. She was wrapped up great in S3.

Bad news guys :(.

I think The Wire S4 (and maybe S3) have beaten out FNL S3.

Honestly, I'd probably just be fine with a one episode sendoff. S3's finale didn't do much for me in terms of closing her story.

One thing that bothered me was that the S3 finale (deleted scenes on the DVD) had awesome goodbye scenes for nearly all the leaving characters.

I guess they didn't air them to get mileage out of those goodbye's in S4.

Bah.

My brother keeps bugging me about starting FNL from the beginning (he missed a bunch of eps on my last watch, and only saw the complete S3).

I think we'll start S1 tonight.

Motherfucker.

Jesus i just watched all of this front to back over the last week.

It's awesome!

Early s2 sucked a bit but s3 more than made up for it.

Love the song strung about the beginning of the episode.

It's called Remember Me As A Time Of Day, by Explosions In The Sky.

Bit early for a re-watch for me, but i just started re-watching the first season, 5 episodes down, though this time i'm watching it with my mum. Who i finally convinced that the show isn't a typical teen soap opera and something she'd enjoy. She seems hooked on it already, we just watched like 4 episodes just then.:lol
One thing to note, is the pilot is so so much better when you already know the characters beforehand, i thought it was kinda cliche on my first watch.

No Matt though. Wonder whats gonna happen there :(.
She'd be pretty boring without matt, i hope they can do something interesting with her, aslong as it dosen't involve making her a bitch like she was in S2.

Bring back the Swede!

No, not really.

Even though he only appeared briefly, he stands as one of the more memorable and annoying supporting characters, probably because his name is so catchy. THE SWEDE! :lol
On episode 10 of my re-watch, <3 the scene at the end where matt kisses julie.:D and all the scenes with him and laundry are some of the most hilarious FNL moments :lol
Really cant stand the tim / lyla love triangle shit that goes on during these episodes though, thankfully it dies down after this next episode..
