Episode 308................
WOOOOW! Tv don't get much better than that! One of the best episodes of FTL. I was tearing up badly at Jasons scene at the end! I love that this season is sooo much more "adult" about everything, and that there is very little "teenage drama" Really glad Julie and Matt's together again, and there being a lot more adult about it! Didn't like the tattoo thing to much though, but it really wasn't that big of a deal!
Is Julie a senior too, I'm not sure if I'm going to watch next season, if most of my favorite character's are gone

neoism, the only characters leaving are
Tyra and Lyla
(and even then they'll still get short arcs to be written out of the series with)

I think Julie's a Junior in S3.

About the (soon to be gone?) characters:

There will certainly be new characters next season. Though apparently only a very few amount of our people will leave. I can comment more fully when you've finished the season.

Come on, give the writers a shot. If every character gets an awesome goodbye like Smash/Street it'll be awesome.

Except Matt and Julie. They'll be there till the end. Or should be, at least.

So trust the writers. They should be able to introduce great characters.

Edit: What Costanza said.

I'll definitely be sad to some of them go, but I'll more than likely watch just for the Coach, and the wife! I agree 100% about the goodbyes, they were both done beautifully.
About Trya and Lyla that sucks pretty bad, that's a lot of eye candy
I also agree with the Julie and Matt thing!

That's good to hear. I thought
Riggins would be gone, too, but I guess that isn't the case.

They better write up a god damn good reason for
riggins sticking around next season, because his final conversation with his brother was so awesome.

I'm going through season 1 right now for the first time, just finished episode 9 last night. I wasn't sold after watching the pilot, but I'm pretty much hooked on it now. Good show, but there are a few things that frustrate me:

1) The Jason/Lyla/Riggins love triangle. Stupid teenage drama soap opera bullshit. I hate this kind of stuff in shows like Lost, and it's even more annoying here because it's part of the main plot.

2) Tyra. What is the point of this slut? She's easy on eyes, but you could remove all of her scenes from the show and not miss a beat. Though I will admit that the scene of her and Jason drinking in the hospital was nice.

3) The Coach/Voodoo dynamic. This subplot is done with (I think) but I think this one frustrated me the most, just because of how unrealistic it was. Any coach worth a damn would tear someone like Voodoo a new asshole the very second he started disrespecting him. I know Taylor was under pressure to keep Voodoo on the team, but a good coach would never take that kind of shit for one second from any player, regardless of how good they are.

All in all I like this show, but I wish it was more focused on the football. Every scene that deals with the coach or the team, or any of the interactions between them, is gold. But all the teenage soap opera stuff is annoying to sit through.

wat

That stuff is so much worse in Lost (not in the amount of it, but in the quality of it, where the writing and acting on Lost arent as good as FNL), and you dont mind it there?

1) The triangle is kinda meh, but the fallout and the way they're all affected by it is pretty great. Overall its worth it.

2) Tyra starts out as maybe the weakest character. But she grows and grows throwout the show. She's one of the best by the end of S3. Her speech T_T.

3) I honestly don't really see it. While he didn't badger him all day, he didn't use him at all. Thats how he chose to confront the Voodoo situation. I may be off a bit with the who/what/wheres and the episode numbers.

I think the balance is great. I hate football IRL, so the mixture in the show works for me. If anything, less football worked fine, as showed in the stellar S3 (not saying I hate football in the show, but you know what I mean).

I don't really see too much teenage soap-opera (aside from the fact that it's a [mostly] teenage-centered drama), except for the mentioned triangle. And a couple one-shots here and there.

Like I said, I'm a little fuzzy with what-takes-place-where.

I see Tyra as pleaseant filler throughout Season 1, but the first episode of S2 establishes her as quite a big player, but in the wrong way:lol She has an incredible speech/arc in S3 though.

All these Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lily avatars are making this thread a torture to read... D:

I agree with you Blader on Lyla/Riggins/Jason stuff. Really disliked it. The execution of the subplot was the best i could ask for, though, and it improves drastically in the second half of the season. Solo is correct that this is still better than pretty much any garbage Lost relationship drama. :P

Tyra, on the other hand, is fucking awesome. Her arc throughout season 1 is brilliant. I suggest letting these arcs play out before writing them off. These writers are great at taking somewhat cliched developments and making them work through the realistic execution.

I'm not really big into football either, but any scene that deals with the coach or the team is 100x more compelling than anything else in this show, which is why I wish it was more football-centric. Or at least, less of a soap opera.

I really, really hope that Devon (sp?), the girl bassist, gets a bigger part in S4. She's awesome.

And (spoiler for episode 3.08 I think)
she's (I think) the only lesbian/gay character, aside from the mayor
.

TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: What a wonderful scene right after. The drive home was incredibly touching.

Edit2: And here comes Mr.Chicken Legs, Buddy Garrity!

Edit3: Finished 3.07; so, so awesome.

What a wonderful moment between Jason and Lyla. Shows that they still have some connection.

finally watching. coaches talk with riggins about street in episode 3 was so heartbreaking. and then her breakdown with Tim...this show knows just how to tug at my heartstrings

"i think i told that kid to get our daughter in the backseat of a car" :lol

I bought Season 3 today, couldn't resist. I'll buy S1&2 when they take'em off Netflix. I've been waiting a long time to watch this Smash arc again. :D

Finished 3.09,.10 last night.

"Women are to be respected.

[long pause]

That is my daughter!"

Just one disc left!

Holy fucking WOW what a spectacular season finale! Seriously who ever wrote this season better come back to write 4!
Damn it... not sure if I can wait to see what happens, I loved it. I love that Julie tried to be an adult about Matt going to Chicago, and him not letting her, and Tim, what a cool motherfucker, I guess him a L are done, but I hope not.
At first I'm wasn't sure at what to think about Coach, I mean, you'd think they would put the coaches under a 2 or 3 year contract, so if the did lose or didn't do good the season before they would still have a job! I guess I understand the talk about this season, I still in some ways liked season 1 more, but it was seriously a great season!
LION VS PANTHER ?????????????.....

Watching 3.12,

T_T at Tyra's speech.

I love Tyra so much.

Edit: T_T

Edit2: Going ahead and watching the finale.

Damn S4 is so close!

Edit3: :) :) :) :) I LOVE YOU TYRA!!!!

So,

What an incredible end to an incredible season that is without a doubt my favorite season of TV ever. Awesome game-changer and setup for S4.

S4 thoughts:

Whats gonna happen to Matt? It seems the writers didn't/couldn't say goodbye to him like Smash/Jason. Though it's slightly worrying (they'll be some more tough times for him ahead), I'm stoked Matt is staying for the long haul.

Seriously, what an incredible setup for S4. Coach vs. THE ENTIRE FREAKING TOWN OF DILLON? Sign me the fuck up. He's going to have to build a team of kids from the poor side of town. Kids who: didn't make the Panthers, didn't care about football, etc etc etc. And then use that team to beat his old one! He going to have to face his creation. It's gonna be epic.

Wonder how Riggins (and other characters in the same position) will fit since he's staying on the show.

:O

There's a very awesome deleted scene that has to do with Matt/Julie/Matt's Grandma and that whole situation in the S3 finale.

He tells Julie that
he cant stand the thought coming to visit his (practically) "mother" [Grandma Saracen] during thanksgiving and her not being able to remember who he is :(. Clears up a lot of the issues I had with him staying. And then Julie has the happiest look on her face, Matt too :).

How awesome? So awesome.

Yeah, the deleted scenes were pretty good on the S3 disc in general. There were quite a few that added a lot of what seems like necessary backstory.

skipped ahead and watched the last 2 episodes of season 3 also. the setup to next season is so good.

i really think they have to have Coach beat West Dillon. i predict that they get stomped in the first game against each other, but Coach eventually wins in the playoffs or whatever, and get to State. i dont think they are going to do more than 2 more seasons, and they cant have him losing the rest of the show.

i am worried though with what they will do with Tim. billy made an awesome speech and Tim looked convinced. what reason could they give? no money? tried it and completely failed at it? and wtf is matt going to do in Dillon?

so many questions...

SpeedingUptoStop said:
God damn, Billy's speech to Tim was so great
why'd they have to bring him back? :[

Thats what I was thinking. After that deleted scene in my above post, I'm (pretty) cool with Matt's situation. What are they gonna do about Tim though?

Any word on who's back next season, Costanza?
It's kinda worrying me that she only specifically mentions Julie/Landry/Riggins sticking around and after saying Tyra is being written off, she says "alot of those characters get short arcs" and "it's going to be different without our core group"

I don't want them to get rid of Saracen :(

Watching now,

Apparently they start filming in September.

Thats kind of late...

Edit: And then immediately airing.

Costanza's right about the cast thing,

but it just seems to me that she just forgot to mention Saracen. I wouldn't read into that too much.

Also her or The Coach are maybe having an affair with a student :lol.

Nice interview. Didn't know she was in the Elm Street remake. At least there's one reason to see it!

I don't see them getting rid of Saracen. At least not until season 5. The dynamic between the Taylors and Matt is one of the shows main draws.

I love the short, poignant arcs of these returning characters.

also wtf at Chandler holding out? :[

she seems to be joking about the affair thing, I think. "I haven't talked to the writers" is a big point.

god damn I am so excited for this show to come back.

I don't see them getting rid of Matt at all. Especially not with S5 being the last season. Why get rid of him in S4? Even more so when (IIRC) all 26 episodes are being filmed consecutively.

I could just be convincing myself though :(.

I don't want Matty to leave! Him and the Taylors are the main characters!

That was clearly a joke. She called him a diva :lol.
