What exactly does the care package glitch do? same as MW2? ...haven't seen it in action yet.

Not sure exactly how it works, but I saw the same players calling in care packages one after another.

It's on Youtube if you're interested in how it works. Pretty sure that they should have found that during testing...

no it is not.

I don't know where you are at, but playing from the NE part of the USA last night at peak time, via a somewhat OK DSL connection that is hardwired, I had zero problems, nor did any of my buddies, we were all loving this game last night.

I didn't get a single frame issue, no warping laggers, no major issue with getting shot behind corners...this runs everybit as well as every other FPS in this series for me.

Frankly, I think it looks as good too...and my god it plays better than MW2...this is actually fun...assuming your connection is OK I guess, or match making is putting you in proper games.

I changed it to look for local games first, I don't want to play with people from far away, try doing that.

i sorta figured with so many people online i would have to wait long cause the servers are getting hammered but :lol :lol at playing a 5 vs 5 or 5 vs 6 team deathmatch. smh cmon we can at least get 8 vs 8

i like buying the challenges (kill 3 people without dying) etc. fun to do

it's not shit, its good :D

Loving the game so far.

Weird playing it on two different systems though.

Played it all night on the PS3 then switched to 360 once it came in from amazon.

360 = waiting and waiting and waiting to get a game
PS3 = play right away no waits.

so far

PS3 > 360

for this game.
Sounds like you have closed NAT on your 360, or it was just too many players on live as I was having party problems last night when the user base was 2+ mil

Same I am flying by people and they just randomly spam the knife and kill me very annoying. Can anyone give me some tips on how to use the ballistic knife.

After reading that DF comparison, I am going to use the $20 in credit I got from the PS3 version of BO and put it towards a copy for X360. Amazon is still giving out $20 credit right now so I am getting both games for a net of $80. I will play on both and make a decision down the road if I want to own both. At its core though, I am very pleased with the game.

Played the PC version yesterday, I can't believe they released the game in this state. It stutters in MP and does so frequently, *almost* unplayable and definitively annoying. I'm sure they will fix it shortly, but you have to wonder what type of QA they had for the PC version to let this one slip.

That aside, this game is a blast and a half. The weapons I like, the maps I like, the perks I like and the kill streaks, for the first time in a COD game, I like. Once they get a patch out I can see myself spending a lot of time with this one.

I'd also like to see a 24/7 FFA Nuketown server. mmm .. the carnage.

Performance is bad during SP, something is wrong and it's not related to my PC.

Loving the story and SP experience so far though.

My thoughts on the game so far is that it's pretty darn good. I actually like it more than I did MW2. I can see how the differences might make some people not like the game or feel it isn't as good but the differences make the MP so much better. The fact that I can go around and play without all the noob tubbing and chaos from MW2 makes this one so much better for me. I'll admit im still growing on the whole CoD points part of it. In some cases its better because unlocking any attachment or perk you want is better but in some cases I can see reaching a certain point and not really need to unlock any other items.

The single player is top notch and I feel more invested in it than I did MW2. Only played around with Zombies for a bit but of course it was pretty much just like WaW but more refined. I haven't had many framerate issues either except for one part in the singleplayer, but other than that it was good. I feel that this game is one of the best in the series and with a couple patches, it can be that much better.

While I can't or not going to criticize your opinion or impression based on what your experiences are with The PS3 version but, please respect I wholeheartedly disagree, thanks in part to my own experience with this poor excuse for a port.

This is game is far from perfect, it's nowhere near great but it's good. It's a good game plague with technical/performance issues. Now I'll admit, during certain times... performance remained consistent. Framerate drops were minimal, so was lag. But overall, the PS3 version performs poorly... there is no denying that. No, it's not on Par with MW2. You like the visuals/graphics? ..quite frankly sir... you must be blind. No offense. This game looks like shit in comparison not only compared to the other versions, also MW2 -- PS3 version.

If you're willing to excuse, "look past", or hell... not acknowledge there isn't any issues that's cool. But there are. As far as gameplay is concerned. It's definitely an improvement over MW2 in almost every aspect, I agree. But those who suffer from CoD fatigue may not, or maybe the changes themselves aren't enough. I'll also admit, the formula... is officially old.

/sort of a rant.

I need to destroy a sentry gun for ghost pro. What playlist do people use them? Guessing object base game, like CTF. Out of 20 levels, I think I saw it once in team deathwatch and that's probably from care package. Drop rate seems very low there.

No it's open for sure. I'm on N as well.

About the knife. I think the timing is different than MW2.

I was like "WTF is going on!!" when I first tried to knife people which I was able to do alot with my stealth guy silenced weapon/ghost/ninja etc. I was something that I had to get the hang of again which felt weird as I played MW2 up until last weekend.

Anyone else pretty impressed with the bot AI? Sure they run into walls sometimes but they're good shots and seem to be able to flank pretty well.

Finished the campaign, overall quite impressed.

After the mission in
Kowloon, escorting Clarke(?)
the game picked up HUGELY. Prior to that I'd completely written it off and was just going to accept that all their focus was on MP.

The vehicle sections were actually enjoyable too. One (
the boat with Gimme Shelter blaring away!
) probably even the highlight of the game.

But the first third or so of the game was dire. Truly woeful stuff.

Aside from the game breaking bug I had in Chapter 1 (forcing me to restart from the beginning), the campaign is pretty awesome so far. It's a bit over the top as usual, but the story is actually interesting. The entire walkthrough scene of the Pentagon was awesome. Even had a Billy Bob Thorton look-a-like thrown in there for bonus points. Sam Worthington is awful though, wish you can mute him.

It's back to being cod4/waw buggy. that's all.

I'm not surprised the PS3 version is sub-par. The fact of the matter is, they also have screwed up the PC version. While I'm sure it can be patched, there is no excuse for the piss poor framerates some people are seeing on the PC. It's sloppy coding.

The PS3 port of Black Ops seems quite a bit worse than the MW2 port was last year. Bad framerates, very low resolution, and loss of detail in some areas are a real disappointment.

Of course, next to the Wii version, all versions look fantastic. :D

Why bashing my poor Wii version. :(

No dude I'm just saying... having just dropped $60 on it I feel entitled to say whatever I want. These are my impressions: W.....T......F...... back into the box, hopefully I can get some money back on it.

The game runs, plays, and looks like shit. You want me to write a thesis? Brother, it's not worth the time. Glad you like it of whatever, but I think that last 40 mins or so was the least enjoyable time I've had gaming that I can recall.

As a noob, with no weapons, classes, or perks unlocked... my first game was 10 mins of complete spawn rape by an enemy helicopter. No one on the team had a counter, we were all new. Pilot was basically invincible for the entire round, and the fucking game must light us up like christmas trees because I was hiding in a corner under a bush and only lasting 4-5 seconds after spawn.

So fun. Cool game.

Is it just me or does this game look just like World at War. Why do Treyarch games look a little off compared to COD4 and MW2? Same engine. Shouldn't look the same. It's just not as sharp as MW2.

I agree - on top of that, it looks like there are scale issues. Something just isn't right. I haven't gone through the entire thread, but has sound come up at all? The guns sound awful.

Having said all this, I still see myself playing this to death - I can't deny that, despite being technically inferior to MW2, it's a hell of a lot of fun (MP).

@reckless -- Put in a couple of more hours (mp) before completely writing it off. While I agree, the performance sucks. It's not all bad. I mean... yeah...

960x544 and poor performance. :lol Someone tell me this is a april fool's joke. I think I'll just rent it now. Treyarch completely dropped the ball.

edit: Apparently this is lowest resolution COD on the PS3. Grabbed from Beyond3D.

Call of Duty 3 (screenshot) ~1088x624 (2xAA)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare = 1024x600 (2xAA)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 = 1024x600 (2xAA)
Call of Duty: World at War = 1024x600 (2x AA)

Play with the 'soft' and 'loud' settings, turn down music and voice and then turn up efx, and then turn up tv. I got decent sound out of my steroe speakers this way.

Its not as nice and shiney as MW2, but it plays so much better.

So wait, Black Ops gets hyped for months and then when it comes out, it's all 'the formula is old' and 'oh, the graphix'. Oh GAF. :lol
Oh stop it.

Awful framerate
Netcode hits
Awful controls...wonky aim assist that locks on the enemy like no other COD before, but only turns on sometimes. When aim assist turns on - it just doesn't guide my controls, it snaps-on like the A.I in practice mode.
Sound effects are awful and don't work - I hear two peoples footsteps when I run and sometimes I make no noise at all even without ninja. People can run right behind me and I won't hear em...again even without ninja.
Maps are all interchangeable and a giant mess of loops and paths...except nuketown, which isn't a good map.
Spawns are awful...always. Not sometimes in certain situations, but every darn match.
Party system broken

and yes, the formula is getting old. The perks in this game aren't dynamic enough and yes, the graphics aren't that good either...especially considering the horrible framerate.

MidnightRider said:

I know (erm, think) a lot of folks are enjoying Black Ops, but thanks to the uneven technical performance (and/or lag --launch week!) that plagues particular platforms... it makes it hard for some people to simply "enjoy" the game.

Yes they do.

The M60 had no pop at all when I was playing the 4th mission.

Feels like I'm replaying MW1/2/WaW levels. Fucking 4th mission and trenches :/ hated trenches in WaW and its equally annoying in BOPS.

MidnightRider said:

I honestly think the core gameplay is much improved. The graphics are worse though but I don't see myself going back to MW2 much at all. The balance in this title is just what the doctor ordered.

Sounds like you played the MP for a few minutes, got stuck in a game against people more familiar with the series than yourself and then rage quit. You should give it some more time. If you take the time and learn how to play smart, you can avoid all those needless killstreak deaths. You can't hate the game based on the simple fact that you were outplayed in one match.

Most of what you've said is nothing ive experienced and you can turn aim assist off.

Also the guy getting chopper raped im 99% sure there is a class with a rocket launcher unlocked from the start.

I'm liking Theater mode, though it kind of sucks to have to download the game each time before you can view it. When you played a bunch of games on one map it's hard to remember which one was the crazy moment you wanted to get a clip of.

Taking clips and making a segment of them is awesome. I wish they had more transitions though.

Johnlenham said:

Exactly.

Perfect frame-rate, netcode, sound effects, controls and party system here. Maps are solid (except for Nuketown) and spawns suck; but a patch will fix that.

Yeah. I played like 7 hours of Black Ops yesterday, and when friends logged on, couple hours of MW2 afterward. Graphics are definitely, guns, environment and so on. MW2 seems more realistic while Black Ops is more cartoony. All the guns I tried all seen to be peeshooters. Doesn't feel weighty and powerful.. Still loving the game since it's more skill base and way less BS moments. Maybe, MW3 will put all good things from both games into one package.
