CoD Black Ops |OT| Always Bet On Black

I'll bet you that it's because of the Zombie content. Different countries have different restrictions with regards to censorship, and they're forced to comply. Just a guess, but it makes sense.
That is it, but it's actually the swastikas and shit, not the zombies themselves.

It's still really annoying. Thinking back, MS will not allow me to download anything that has a swastika in it (just realized that I'm not allowed to buy Wolf3D or CoD1 either), but they made that rule up! I can go to a physical shop here and pick up all the stuff MS believes is banned in my country...

Hah, they did make the exact same mistake again...but they applied the same fix again already. Issue resolved then!

So here's what I think so far (not going to play the zombie map until tonight):
Convoy: Wow! The promo material basically ONLY showed us the broken bridge, but there's A LOT more to this map. First thing I did was turn left (bridge was ahead/right) and I came upon a little village with a diner and a tiny trailer park. Very nice map, I thought. It's very campy (with all the bridge stuff they focused on in the promos), but it's a nice kind of campy. Like, "okay dude, you sit up there while I use one of the 45 available flanking routes." :D
Zoo: Haha, this is a depressing fucking zoo! Everything is so decayed and broken. Pretty cool! Very circular and a little hard to learn, but pretty good so far. I really like that it's littered with little things you can use, like how the monkey rock has a staircase on it so you can disappear through there if you're chased, etc. Like the aquarium and the jungle cage. (As predicted, getting on the monorail is a dumbass move. You die immediately. :lol)
Hotel: First impression is hardcore "meh." So extremely campy and, unlike Convoy, it's in a bad way. Really not enjoying this at all. The entire outside pool area (i.e. 70% of the map) suffers from horrible framedrops too, the entire area sucks to be in because it can crap out at any moment, and it's the majority of the map! Worst map in the pack so far, will probably win worst map overall.

Can't seem to get Stockpile to save my life... Played Convoy a bunch of times and I think I'm in love with it. Mostly because everyone's trying so hard to camp and the map allows me to flank and tear their shit up so easily. :D

Finally got Stockpile. Liked it so far, and this is the only map where the gimmick is pretty awesome! First thing I did was flank around to A flag and then back into B, killed everybody there, closed the blast door and capped it myself before they could get back in. Nice!

What I don't like about it right now is that there's a big "ring" of open space covering the map. There's like a cluster of buildings in the middle, this empty ring and then some random houses on the outskirts. Leaves everything too open when you want to flank, and you can't waste all that time using those tiny outskirts houses for cover. Could've used a couple more trucks in the streets, I guess.

Haven't played Stockpile yet, but I'm happy beacuse these maps are leaps and bounds better than the last pack. Convoy def fun, I really liked Hotel no one really camped it up. Zoo was my fave I think from the 3 so hard to figure out where you're going right off the bat.

Managed to get a ridiculous tomahawk already on Zoo:

Good to hear since I like 3 of the 4 maps on the last pack.

I stopped playing shortly after launch. Fired the game up to get my army fix after reading the Special Forces thread in OT. Got sucked right back in!

I am downloading the Escalation DLC right now. I wonder if I am going to suffer in matchmaking for not having the FirstStrike DLC :/

I'm a bit mixed on the maps overall so far, but granted, I've only played each one once. Hotel seems a bit too long. Noticed that most of my time was spent running from one end of the map to the other, only to find the enemy team camping in some balconies. Boo. Overall, the maps seem a bit more tailored towards high to low combat. Zoo is really like this. I spent most of time looking up, as most players in my match were just camped in some hidey hole waiting for me.

Yeah, you'll probably have less of a pool to pick opponents from, meaning more potential for lag. You'll probably be fine though, enough people should be in the same situation.

Just want to point out that if it does bother you, you can always just delete the DLC and you'll be back in a huge pool of players again.

As far as camping goes on the new maps, that's to be expected NOBODY knows the maps yet and a lot of people love their KDR so much that until people learn em it'll be a lil camp heavy.

Just play the Escalation playlist and you'll be fine.

Stockpile, Convoy and Zoo are godly maps. CONVOY CONVOY CONVOY. Hotel will take time, and doesn't jump out at me like the others. Very unique map, though.

I love 'em.

are the map packs for this game worth the money?
Seriously dude? Can't read a single one of the posts right above yours? :p

(Answer is no, but they're not going to drop in price either so if you want to play them you pony up.)

both $15 right? If you could pick just one which one would you go with?

That's a difficult question to answer, because no-one's had enough time to see how the new maps play out. Map flow is always evolving, and it usually takes a week or two for people to acclimatise and play t the maps in a normal way.

That said, I think the newest maps are better than the ones contained in the first map-pack.

If it was my money, I'd spend it on Escalation.

Just played Convoy for the first time. Not a fan. If there's any map in BLOPS that I've played so far that's completely built for campers, this is it. So annoying.

I definitely differ. The map convoy is worth the $15 alone. Its of the the best maps in the call of duty lineage. First fight there, got 24 kills. I don't camp.

Better than dawnville and carentan?

My thoughts on the map pack so far;

Haven't played the maps in multiplayer yet (except for Zoo). It's a weird map for me. Lots of cover and stuff in my way, makes it difficult to knife consistently. Then again, I've played on it twice (and got a sweet tomahawk from the pride rock cage(lion cage)), but I think it's a decent map.

From exploring the maps by myself, they're a lot bigger than I expected. Hotel seems like a bigger Nuketown with more paths. Seems like I'll enjoy this one.

Convoy REALLY reminds me of 'Vacant'(?) from CoD 4 (the one with grandma's house? I can't remember the map). A lot bigger than what we were led to believe, but that was the vibe I got from this map.

Stockpile Seems like it'll be hit or miss, game mode depending. It feels like a small Havana (the nuke in the middle doesn't help).

As for Call of the Dead,
I either suck at zombies, or it's hard. I can make it to round 5 by myself, and got the power on, but from there I got stuck (and pissed off Romero). Don't shoot him, otherwise he rushes you. Stay out of the water, you'll slowly freeze to death. Zombies can freeze in there, Romero hasn't.

Spoiler'd that incase people wanna learn on their own. I had the most fun with it NOT knowing what to do.

And rage at getting the ray gun in round 3, and dying in round 3. >:[

Not true. All CoD map packs have received a price drop at some point though temporarily, including MW2 maps.

My previous attitude towards convoy has since been negated. You know, since I went 30-4 on it. I guess I like it now. :)

Also, having played more of the maps, I'm warming up to them. But, not entirely happy that a couple of them basically make things like the Chopper Gunner and Hind completely worthless. But, oh well. Dogs it is.

bleh just picked the map pack up from gamestops site and the code isnt valid =/

Call/email customer support and get a replacement code?\

EDIT: Looks like you're not the only one who's having this issue.

http://www.shacknews.com/article/68321/xbox-live-support-warns-issues

According to the Xbox.com support site, some users are experiencing issues with the redemption of download codes (or vouchers) purchased at GameStop for the most recent Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack.

"Users may experience issues redeeming Gamestop Call of Duty: Escalation map pack tokens," the service site currently reads. The known issue listing notes that Xbox Live's support team is aware of the issue and thanks users for their patience--which we've recently had time to exercise.

Hotel is fantastic. It's like Highrise all over again-we needed another small map for Domination (Nuketown never shows up anymore).

Stockpile has a lot of interesting paths to the camping spots; it's definitely a unique map. Reminds me of Summit.

I only had one match in Zoo and had a tough time with the billion lines of sight. I'm sure it'll grow on me.

Convoy? I hate Convoy. I hate its face.

Stockpile is probably my fav, reminds me a lot of Summit. <3

Zoo is awesome too! Really fun.

Don't like Hotel, always disliked Highrise though from MW2 though which it reminds me off.

Convoy is a bit weird, don't have an opinion of it.

If you do shoot him accidently, make him follow you into the water and he calms down again.

I like the maps so far. It feels like I'm playing a map made 10 years ago with Hotel. It's very square with little rooms. Zoo has so many lines of sights it's nuts. Convoy is the fav so far. So many people trying to snipe B in Domination. Easy kills. Not played Stockpile yet.

I really enjoy Hotel. It forces a style of play I'm more comfortable with. I think a lot of effort went into making this one.

Finally played the all new maps, multiple times. I know it will probably change once people get used to it, but I am balling out with just my sniper rifle, ballistic knife and tomahawk. I just float from spot to spot, flanking people. Tons of fun.

So I'm beginning to hate Zoo.

The map has no flow. It's so circular, and has one main, two-story building where there's ALWAYS action, but every avenue to access it is open, devoid of cover and easily defensible from multiple vantage points.

That leaves 75% of the map as a wide-open, unfocused mess of wide, uncovered corridors, foliage-covered camping havens, leaving a large portion of it an absolute death-trap to flankers.

Just my opinion, obviously.

damn just played a few games of tdm with a whole team camping in full force

in particular they LOVED the room in hotel above the spawn with the casino

so much that the whole game that all 6 of them would crouch in or around the room and they would claymore up the whole place elevator stairs etc and sit inside each corner of the room and inside the elevator
it was the most blatant and ridiculous camping setup ive ever encountered

The hotel rooms are insanely easy to flank and get behind. I played Domination, got behind their C and just camped around their own camp spot.

Went 18-4 with 2 plants and 2 defuses in one game of Search today. The hate messages were delicious.

Apparently the MP5 is a noob gun now!
