College Football 2013 |Week 1| - Death Throes

So, I just finished talking to someone who should know, and he's got me 99.99% convinced that Texas Tech will be starting true-freshman walk-on QB Baker Mayfield in the season opener vs. SMU this Friday.

I couldn't believe it was actually happening...but now I do.

Welcome to a few weeks ago. ; )

I wonder if a D1 school has ever started a true freshman walkon at QB in a season opener before?

Super excited for FSU to come to Pitt monday night. Hopefully Savage returns to freshman year Rutgers form

Also, as an athlete, we get free tickets to all the Pitt games. I've always wondered how they're allowed to do that

Has there really been 2 generations of QB's at Lake Travis since Garrett Gilbert or did one of the 2 Lake Travis QB's on Tech's roster never start in highschool?

First tragedy, then farce.

Isn't that what Tedford has been doing ever since Aaron Rodgers got blown out by Tech in that game that certainly wasn't the Rosebowl?

Cyan's a mod now...we must be careful on touchy subjects involving Cal.

Oh wait he's an LSU SECSECSEC fan, nvm carry on. Texas earned their right to play Michigan!

Why are we even discussing Cal? Cornballer is the only Cal fan that posts here and I don't think he was involved in this discussion.
I'm staying out of that. The new kid is crazy
when he's not disappointingly breaking character.

I got grudge sucked!
Mrs Hansbrough worked for the University of North Carolina as a fundraiser for the athletic department. She dated an ex QB at UNC and they took trips together on the schools dime to watch her younger son play bb for the dormers.

Also, she was magically hired during Tyler senior season.

No, she dated John Kupec, vice chancellor to university advancement and UNC's most successful fund raiser. She was initially hired on for the school of dentistry because she had a relevant degree, but was quickly moved to Kupec's department, where the two were soon dating. They took several trips not just to see Ben play at Notre Dame, but also to various vacation spots, all on tax payer dime. For any other school, it would have been a gigantic scandal.

EDIT: Enough about UNC.

Anyway, here's piece on how Duke actually was, at one time, a FOOTBALL SCHOOL.
and yes, I get the irony that its posted on Duke Basketball Report

I like graphs, but I don't like crazy subjective parts. To be more embarrassing that Rape Town, Tennessee...

Arkos

Nose how to spell and rede to
Wake up. Shower. Put on jersey. Grab a beer. Turn up the jams!!

d It's Gameday, Gameday, gotta get down on Gameday d

Whoo! Can't believe it's already here. Did you know? People (rightfully) scoff at playing on a Thursday, but for years the Carolina Clemson game was always played on Big Thursday, during the state fair, long before cable and shit. Now you know...

There's really been 2 generations of QB's. I belive each of the guys on Tech's roster started for 2 years.

Spurrier:

Did you have any genuine interest in the Alabama job in 2007 when Saban was hired?

SS: No, I was all set here. [Athletic director] Mal Moore called, and I told him to stick with Saban. They’d already gone after Saban, and Saban told them the first time he was staying [in the NFL]. So when Mal called me, I said, ‘Listen, stay with Saban. He doesn’t like pro football. I was there. It’s no fun. He doesn’t have a very good team in Miami and knows he can recruit and build a team at Alabama.’ I’d say they got the right guy.

If you can believe him, glad Mal took the advice.

I have a feeling that I'm going to feel really stupid at the end of the season for not picking the Fightin' Gondos to win the Big XII but I have a hard time looking past Texas' 19 returning starters in a conference that is as wide open as the Big XII is right now.

So from the "this was a thing?" department the B1G can now have unlimited replays!

The Big Ten will allow its member schools to show unlimited replays on stadium video boards beginning this season as part of an effort to upgrade the game-day experience.

Big Ten schools previously had limited in-stadium replay opportunities and typically didn't show controversial calls by officials. They also couldn't show replays at less than 75 percent of real-time speed. The new policy, approved by the Big Ten's football game-day experience subcommittee, places no restrictions on replays or the speed at which they're shown on the video boards.
