Suggesting that if Nussmeier goes to UW, it makes it more likely Saban goes to Texas.

One could argue Saban’s in a similar situation to what Urban Meyer faced at Florida. In 2008, behind Tim Tebow, the Gators won a second BCS Title (the first was in 2006). In 2009, the Gators were poised to do it again, but were beaten by Alabama, which had the hot new (well, new again; he won a title at LSU in 2003) coach on the SEC block, Nick Saban. The Gators finished 13-1. After Meyer’s star QB graduated, the Gators struggled to finish 8-5. Meyer left coaching to spend time with his family.

Eleven months later, he resurfaced in a much easier conference to dominate: The Big Ten. Meyer is 24-0 so far at Ohio State in the Big Ten.

MVC? The Missouri Valley Football Conference? That wasn't created until a couple 2-3 years ago.

Weird that it would be 1981, D1-AA (now FCS) was created in 1978.

http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/conferences/mvc/

After further research, It seems in 1985 the conference voted to drop football.

As for the creation of Div1-AA, I guess it would make sense for the 2 lower football conferences to drop a level. Didnt know Div1-AA was a new thing.

On June 6, 2008, the Gateway Football Conference changed its name to the Missouri Valley Football Conference, effective immediately. This change aligns the conference with the Missouri Valley Conference, a conference in which five of the nine Missouri Valley Football schools participate. The conferences will share the "Missouri Valley" name but will remain separate administratively.[8]

haha interesting.

Bama in the MNC would be turrible

World's worst Coverup, still successfull!

I can't tell if you're being serious or not every time you say this stuff (referring to Jameis as a rapist the other day, this sort of repeated post, etc.). I hope not because all the evidence points towards him being innocent. They issued warrants and got access to her phone logs and text logs back in January (remember, she did not actually identify her accuser for weeks after the incident) and continued to follow up on it until February when she stopped cooperating and indicated she did not want to pursue the case further.

The reality of this is that there are "cold cases" in every city that are inactive for any number of reasons including lack of cooperation by complainants. There are MANY inconsistencies in her story and in all reality, this not coming to light was far better for her than otherwise. She was still at FSU, still attending games, still participating in her sorority, still having as normal a college life as she could have and now she's had to withdraw from school and her life is probably going to be ruined.

I don't think it's any coincidence that her brother answered an ask.fm question about Matt Baker (the TBT reporter who unearthed this and tipped off TMZ) with saying that he hated him for ruining their life. Once the story was out there, her attorney (her aunt) had to double down because there was no turning back.

I wasn't really aware of how much the Saban to Texas rumors have picked up over the last day. I still don't think it happens, and I really don't want the new coach to be 62 years old anyways.

Yep, so we have a Roethlisberger situation where for the rest of his career people will make rapist jokes.

Still don't know if he did it or not and won't if we never hear more from the alleged victim, but I suppose I will switch back to just assuming he didn't do it.

"Now for the football angle of this story, we go to Paul Finebaum."

Who even needs Ron Burgundy? ESPN has the comedy covered!

Interesting. The "threats" about Tallahassee being a big football town, life ruined etc is really blown out of proportion, the cops have to test how firm the complainant is and she needs to know all possible outcomes. I am not going to take an attorney's word for what the detective told the alleged victim but I can see this statement being viewed as a threat or a very frank discussion on outcomes Are you really sure you this happened as you allege because your life will be changed forever? Are you strong enough for that outcome? These are normal questions to test the complainant's story as well as their resolve. Recanting witnesses are terrible for everyone involved particularly the defendant who then has a rape charge and dismissal on their record if not expunged.

The fact that it is not a publicized part of the story that her aunt is her attorney is very disturbing to me as a lawyer and casts doubt on everything she has stated to the media.

If they publicized that her aunt was her lawyer they would be publicizing the victim's name. Isn't that a no no? Obviously people found out fairly quickly anyway, but still.

I happened to peruse an FSU message board just to see how little they cared about playing Duke for the ACC Championship and I noticed one guy has a sig that said something like "just because you regret it, doesn't make it rape" and I realized how awful this story gets anytime sports is involved. Nobody can see past their team allegiances or what it'll do to the national championship hopes. I'm not calling them awful human beings, but there is a lack of perspective. Nobody won the the Duke Lacrosse case, there was no winner there. There is no winner here either. The girl's life is ruined and there will be people that think Winston raped whether he did or didn't. Whatever suits their narrative and biases, thats all they care about.

An interesting conundrum for sure and why smart attorneys don't take family members cases. There are very few people who would know who the complainant is based on an aunt/uncle relationship I think. To me the whole tenor changes when I know a relative is the attorney. She couldn't even get a Gloria Allred type?

Rape cases in general are horrible for these reasons, and the effects are made worse when the case is prominent. Crime in general has worse effects when it is widely reported on, at least for the people involved. Anytime it is sensationalized for the sake of a story, it impedes effective justice.

It sure is depressing having to go through double-digit coaches before getting to someone that would actually want to coach here
before leaving for Oregon when Helfrich gets fired in 2 years

He'll join Ben Roethlisberger in top hated athletes listss, or maybe he wont. Mark Sanchez isnt ever on there

Anyone watching the press conference? I'm at work so curious as to why they are not charging

It started earlier than 2PM, so I missed the opening. It seems that they'll be releasing a report (later today? sometime else? no clue) that will give more details. There was one point brought up that I found interesting, but I'm hesitant to talk about it here.

I'm assuming you mean GAF as a whole since most of the regulars here are reasonable and I'd like to think they can discuss things even if they don't agree

The attorney is being very careful not to say whether or not he thought something happened beyond "a sexual event." He, at least so far, has not said whether he thinks an assault occurred. He has only (and repeatedly said) that he did not believe he had sufficient evidence to prosecute an assault.

Well, they found a second male's DNA in addition to Winston's. Under questioning, the attorney has seemingly confirmed there at least is an ongoing relationship between the owner of that DNA and the reported victim.

Press conference summary:

- Not enough evidence to claim it was a sexual assault
- Another man's DNA (besides Jameis') was found in the girl's undies
- No probable cause for rape

Basically, no evidence to call rape other than the victim saying "he raped me." Meggs is very sly on his words.

The big revelation was this

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will NOT be charged with a crime stemming from allegations he raped an FSU student back in 2012.

The announcement was just made by State Attorney Willie Meggs, who said, "No charges will be filed against anyone in this case."

Meggs said there was "several people in the room" when the incident happened.

Meggs said there was a 2ND MAN'S DNA discovered ... insinuating the accuser slept with another person around the time she had sex with Jameis. Meggs said the 2nd man's DNA belonged to an unidentified person.

Are we assuming the 2nd male's DNA is as old as Winston's, same time frame?

Well, it seemingly was found on the same clothing as Winston's DNA, so it would presumably be around the same date.

He mentioned that the DNA was from her boyfriend whose name is unreleased. Even the sites that have published her name have not provided any info on her boyfriend or her friend who is the one who apparently called the police initially.

Edit: Well, I just saw her supposed boyfriend's name but it was promptly deleted by a moderator on Reddit. No clue the apparently validity.

So now I'm hearing that it could have been a consensual gang bang, others were involved? Are there girls like that who would really be fine with 3+ guys having sex with her, without some sort of impaired judgement?

I think they only found 2 DNA samples in her underwear. Can't say for sure whether she had sex with her BF earlier in the evening and then had it with Jameis later or what. Jameis' attorney has always said they had testimony from 2 people who would exonerate him so presumably it was from the other people who were present in the room.

Sounds like regular Fraternity/Sorority Type things.

In some sororities, sisters will need to perform certain acts to be accepted. Acts generally on their allied fraternity

In some fraternities, brothers will need to perform certain "acts" to be accepted as well.

Well, I don't know what people are saying on the internet, but nothing like that was discussed in the press conference.

As far as the toxicology report, I believe the alcohol level at the time it was measured was 0.04, and via extrapolation they could work backwards and say it was 0.1 at the time of the alleged assault. Legally too drunk to drive a car, but not "fall down drunk" (not my words, these are words used by ESPN analysis, which is occurring right now). There was no evidence of other drugs involved.

Group sex is not some exotic thing that happens only in porn.

There is nothing to suggest that is true other than your conjecture.

The alleged victim just went public with the alleged corrupt investigation by the Tallahassee Police Dept., in which she claims she immediately reported the incident back in December to cops, but was later told, Tallahassee was a big football town and that she would be "raked over the coals" and her life "will be made miserable" if she pursued it.

According to the statement, Winston's roommate witnessed the alleged rape but the cop refused to interview him.

While those things may certainly be true, you do realize they are statements from just one side of the story, correct?

I was responding to someone who claimed there was nothing to suggest it was true. One side of the story is not "nothing."

Branduil

Your initial statement suggested it "probably" happened.

Because I think it's very likely based on her statements and the documented history of how police departments deal with rape. It's not based on nothing like Meier falsely claimed.
