Looks like Bret is learning quickly about how to cope in the SEC west:

Biggest loss was the backup QB (Brandon Mitchell) and he probably would have dropped on the depth chart when the two frosh QBs got here in the fall. I liked that guy though. I think he would be a good fit at K-State with Klein gone.

Justin Connolly will be in charge of the SEC Network. His name is important because he runs the LHN as well.....

Is it just me, or is ESPN positioning the LHN to be be attatched as a "rider" of sorts to be sold to networks along with the SEC networks. Hey providers: Want the SEC network? You must take the LHN as well! <3 your friends at ESPN

Cyan; use your mod powers to suggest that Lonestar get a Troll Porn Expert tag; pretty please.

Copyright Troll Expert, more preciously. Can't be a Porn Expert, when everyone on GAF is a porn expert.

Missed the decision because I was at a funeral yesterday. Nice way to brighten my mood.

Not sure if there's a logical reason. Bruschi is voted in, who shares the career sack record with Thomas (52).

My best guess: They want to stick with "official records" and Sacks didn't become an official record until 2000. Yes, the year 2000. Terrell Suggs has the season sack record (like 24, I think), but Thomas had 27 his Junior Year, for the actual record.

Don't think Alabama has had a coach or player put in the HOF in 2 years. Now, Alabama has had it's fair share put in (because hey, you can't ignore players from a top 5 all time football school), but 2 years is an interesting development, when there are 10-20 inducted every year. Could just be running into players from the 90's and 00's, and Alabama just wasn't very good.

I was wondering the same thing. Odd.

I do think Bob is slowly realizing that his national championship window at OU is more or less closed. He's not getting the defensive talent he used to get, mainly because of Aggy and the Big 12's reputation as an offense-only league.

I honestly wonder if he'll leave in 3-4 years after continuing to post 9-3 and 10-2 seasons. That's not good enough for most OU fans, even though it would be really hard for them to get anyone close to his caliber.

As you said Bob is just mad because he has been shut out of the high profile tx recruiting now that the sec is making inroads since we moved. Both ok schools lived off getting tx players which is now beginning to shift east.

We still live off Texas players. OSU still gets the same players we used to get, but OU doesn't. It has kinda helped because we're used to looking for diamonds in the rough, while OU simply isn't. The talent gap between OSU and OU/Texas is smaller than it has ever been.

I think he's also bitter that OU won't join the SEC because they're tied to OSU. Being in the SEC would benefit OU tremendously. Part of me wonders if the administration changes, whether they'll decide they've taken care of little brother long enough and bolt.

Then OSU would be forced into the new "Big East" and form a potent rivalry with Tulsa!

Since going to a 9 game schedule in the SEC is a topic again, it appears that Kentucky is against it. They seem to be trying to inspire confidence in their athletes:

Going to nine SEC games a year would make it more challenging for UK to get enough wins (six) to become bowl eligible. Barnhart says the physical impact on Kentucky’s players also factors into his stance.

“History says it’s very difficult for us to have the level of depth, the second, third, fourth lines of players, that some of the other schools in our league have just as a means of their in-state recruiting situations,” Barnhart said. “When we have to play a long line of league games, it’s a grind, our teams can get beaten up physically. It’s better for us, for our players, when the schedule allows us to have some so-called breathers, so that our kids can sort of restore themselves physically in-season.”

And this part is good:

Still, strictly from a position of UK’s self interest, Barnhart is right to oppose the ninth SEC football game. If they are smart, the administrations at schools such as Mississippi, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee and even South Carolina will fight it, too. [Emphasis added.]

They had like 6 teams with 10 wins last year. Why are they even considering this?

Only playing everyone but your permanent opponent from the other division once every 5 years, I guess. In other words, some players will come to UGA and never play Bama during the regular season.

I think the new SEC network also factors into this, along with future rumored expansions. Mike Slive was pretty coy when he was asked about why the network will be located in a state with no SEC presence. Doesn't take a non-SEC graduate to think those discussions have probably been happening for a long time with Duke and/or UNC.

That and SOS concerns (gotta keep the payday games in) for a second team in the playoffs.

I'm licking my chops at someone forcing the Big XII to eventually go to 12 teams and host a CCG. Unless they look west for those two in Boise and BYU. Then fuck 'em.

They'll just stay at 10 and fade into BEAST/The Conference Formerly Known as the BEAST territory. This is their fate after refusing the opportunity to form the MDC.

Was going to say, I think Alabama got a 4 star LB out of Texas in the last few weeks.

Cliff Harris.

Gets busted for reckless driving to his court appearance. Then gets cited for driving without a license. Then gets a ride to the courthouse but arrives after the cut-off time and the judge issues a warrant for his arrest.

Such a waste :(

Throw games? Me too.

Bah!

Kansas State not in the Top 25... I can agree especially after losing 12 players to the NFL this year.. Our defense is the key to running the Big XII again.

Wonder what pre-requisite courses are needed for Anal Copulation 101. Rimming 101? A.P. Rosebudding?

I'm 24 years old and just learned a few months ago what "rosebudding" and "prolapsing" was. I had no idea the body was capable of doing that...and now I can't unlearn it. Thanks Obama

Bum Phillips = best recruiter in the Sec.

Barker said he attended a UK camp early last summer and was told to follow up with the coaches a couple days later.

"So I called them, thinking they were going to offer because I had performed pretty well at camp," Barker said.

"But when I talked to them, they were like, 'So, have you been to any camps recently?' I was like, 'Oh man, I was just at your camp and you didn't even know I was there!' It was kind of funny, but that's when I cut it off. I was done with UK."
