So UCONN, Cincy, and USF are getting paid a shitload:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...sf-cincinnati-could-get-pay-day-from-big-east

I feel much less sorry for them, since basically everyone is comping new facilities they don't want to pay for themseves. Honestly I would be pissed if I were UCF and others as well - charging you for entry fees while they're hoarding a shitload.

Blaudschun had close ties to Providence (the Headquarters not the school), but he always gets his facts wrong.

Today's Crazy rumor.

USF/UCF to Big 12.

Eh. On one hand, I don't care that much because we're not technically part of the conference. And given technically three are at this point, that is where the money would go. On the other hand, yeah it sucks for the teams that had been committed for all of this time and have had to put a lot on the line to leave existing conferences to join something that turned out to be vastly different.

I'd like for them to work something out - but I'm not expecting anything. And at the very least yeah, entry fees need to be reduced to a formality or erased all together.

I just don't understand how by weird circumstances and timing how three teams are holidng up everyone else, while at the same time hoarding all the money. Rutgers, Notre Dame, and us got out, then the Catholic 7 defected, which at the same time would have been enough votes to dissolve the conference. But since the Big Ten/ACC moves happened first, somehow we lose our voting rights, and the Catholic 7 couldn't dissolve it alone.

15 teams are in the basketball league right now, and 12 of them don't want to be there. Somehow that isn't enough to get these strings cut. That's the fucked up thing.

I just don't think they should be hoarding the money and dictating fees. You have just as much right ot the money as them, hell maybe even moreso because if not for UCF/Houston/SMU, etc, they wouldn't even HAVE a league. They're the ones sending gift baskets to the ACC ready to jump at any moment, but at the same time holding everyone else up and hoarding the money?

In addition to that earlier USC/UCF to Big 12 rumor there is now a rumor that the 4 million for the C7 television deal is only valid if it includes ND, otherwise the value goes down.

Apparently, this is all due to Fox wanting to spite ESPN as much as possible.

Who comes up with these? Notre Dame has already agreed to join the ACC, they're not involved in this league in any way, so I'm not sure how any hypothetical deal would even include them in any discussion. They may as well say "well X million is only valid if you have Texas and Florida State in your deal" - it makes as much sense.

They can back out, and they already have investigated joining the C7 for 2013 when the split happens. Tje deal will still be valid if ND doesn't go there but it won't be 4 million per year.

But yeah it's a Tuxedo Yoda/WV insider special, this is not going to happen but more for entertainment purposes.

Leaked Memo: How Texas Tech Could Craft The Image Of Its New Coach And Become “The Hippest School In The Game”

Kliff- We place his nickname..GQ, Hollywood, Swagger..(we talk to him and see what we can place) we need to dial in Kliff's style and hammer it as a the "cool kids" here at Texas Tech.

Starting point: if we are going to place KK in the media spotlight. He must be spot on in terms trend & look. That is what we can hang our hat on... I have reached out my friend and owner of Fred Segal LA. http://www.fredsegal.com/ He has dress and made the image of many stars: He has helped style Micheal Jackson, Brad Pitt, Madonna, Ashley Olson, Bruce Willis, The Beatles, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert. List goes on. He's a go to guy for helping read and place the stars image in terms of looks. I sent him Kliff's pics. He said he would help me put Kliff in what on trend for his style...and more importantly body type. If he puts his signature on Kliff, then Kliff also gets introduced to the Hollywood A-list. He will then assign a stylist to Kliff for season review and help.

Middle point: We hire a branding firm out of LA that specialized in getting our boy on the B-list. We need him to be seen at NY fashion week, some Hollywood events, and the hip scenes around the nation. ( I know we have a firm working the TTU image) I suggest we use a firm that specializes in placing people in the scene. I am told there is 3 main firms. Why? We get B-roll for your normal sport channels. (espn , ABC, ect) We ask Under Amour to help with the cost of branding their coach.

lol a lot of salty UCF fans now over the O'Leary contract extension. I mean I see where they're coming from and I about lost it after we gave away the Mizzou game and lost to Tulsa - twice, but the hyperbole, oh my. The inconsistency does suck. But damn, the school has had so many first under his watch, it's crazy. We actually have more of a pulse now. It's funny how fans will ignore past, clear and even recent successes to fit their agendas.

And given the conference issues now, it's not like we're going into the gauntlet we thought we were. It's CUSA 2.1 and a couple extra hundred grand. Not like it's worth buying out the contract and then also paying for someone else given he'll be perfectly capable of competing for conference titles still and he's having to face issues where other coaches are mentioning he's at the end of his contract in recruiting.

Might as well keep him on as a measure of stability as this shit blows over. Then make a move when it actually makes sense. GOL has actually been instrumental in keeping the athletics department from completely imploding after the old AD basically ran it into the ground.

I was planning on posting this when I could come up with a decent joke to post. Too bad the article itself beat me to the Jean Ralphio reference because it's pretty much perfect.

It should be noted that by "leaked memo" what they mean is "email from random Lubbock business owner." This last quote from the link pretty much sums it up -
Texas Tech spokesman Blayne Beal downplayed Spiegelberg's involvement with the school. "Like anybody else in T-shirt sales, you know, they're always trying to give us their input on things," he says.

I threw together a Kliff Lambert for Monroeski and Pristine. Sorry my photoshop skills suck, the microphone is obviously lodged in his neck

Every fanbase has those nutjobs. They're usually the ones that say "ITS UNACCEPTABLE THIS COACH IS MAKING X MILLION A YEAR!" while not spending a penny on the school they root for, either in academics or going to the games.

Should have seen a couple years ago how many people were yelling for Pitino to be fired and said his recruiting was horrible because of a two star guy we had in that class, who turned out to be an 18 PPG high profile scorer for us this year.

Look at USF. They fired Leavitt and the bottom fell off of that ship with Holtz. Fans always think the coaching grass is greener and any move made is an upgrade instead of just sticking with what you have. I only support job changes if it's completely and readily apparent that the coach is not going to improve the situation and it's only going to get worse ALA Kragthorpe.

If Texas Tech does launch this campaign for KK, I would become a Texas Tech fan.

I'm just happy that we're relevant again even though we haven't even played a single game under the new regime. Even kind of embarrassing news like this is better than no news at all. Tuberville's wife killed a guy and that barely even got any mention here (and it took a few months after the fact for it to even get that)

They need to avoid use of the acronym "KK."

For obvious reasons.

K2 and K² didn't really take off.

ESPN & FOX or what NBC execs now refer to as "FOSPN"
http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2013/03/04/Media/ESPN-Fox.aspx
An indelible image of the unique bond between these two came in the summer of 2011, when ESPN and Fox executives traveled to Switzerland to complete bids for the Olympics’ media rights. While NBC executives holed up in their suite at Lausanne’s Palace Hotel waiting to hear if they won the rights, ESPN and Fox executives socialized together in the lobby bar, laughing with each other and swapping stories.

NBC has no right to bitch. If they wanted to be part of big time athletics, they could have paid for it. Everyone knew ESPN and Fox wanted to keep NBC out. And NBC just sat around hoping everything would work out as things passed them by.

Anyway hearing its likely the UCF at UL game is for Friday night. Puts a dent on the prospects of traveling to that one. Penn St may be back on the radar.

Ayup, Fox completely overpaid for C7, but by doing so they improve that product.

NEW YORK -- Big East football schools will get almost all of a $110 million pot in a deal that will allow seven departing basketball schools to keep the name Big East and start playing in their own conference next season, a person familiar with the negotiations says.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the separation agreement has not yet been finalized. That is likely to happen by the end of the week. The football schools will receive approximately $100 million under the agreement.

The basketball schools will receive $10 million, the Big East name and the right to play their conference tournament at Madison Square Garden.

Of the $110 million in exit fees, holdover members Connecticut, Cincinnati and South Florida will get the biggest share, but the new football members -- Central Florida, Houston, SMU, Memphis, Temple, East Carolina, Tulane and Navy -- also will receive a share of the exit fees to help compensate for the lower-than-expected worth of the media rights deal, sources told ESPN's Brett McMurphy.

The Big East's stash of cash has built up in recent years through a combination of exit fees, entry fees and money the league's members earned in the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Since 2011, the Big East has lost 16 schools that were either members or dropped out before playing a game. That figure includes the seven Catholic basketball schools.

The so-called Catholic 7, which is expected to add at least two more members before it begins competition in the 2013-14 school year, is made up of Georgetown, St. John's, Villanova, Seton Hall, Providence, Marquette and DePaul. The new Big East has a television deal from Fox waiting for it, though it still needs to hire a commissioner and set up a league office.

Big East commissioner Mike Aresco has said the conference is looking at adding another member to give it an even 12. It would then break into two divisions of six and play a football championship game.

The Big East football schools recently agreed to a seven-year deal worth $130 million with ESPN. However, the first year of the deal will be reduced from $10 million to a lower amount, a source told McMurphy, because of the departure of the seven basketball schools.

The Big East will receive $20 million annually for the final six years of the deal, or about $2 million per school, sources told McMurphy.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/s...ose-110-million-league-split-according-report

At least the new members get a share, I wonder what the split is though. I'm guessing Tulsa is the next expansion target.

30 million each for the existing members and 1.25 or something for the incoming members. Guess they told Temple to fuck off or something.

Not confirmed but very likely that is the split.

Do the new members still have to pay an entrance fee? If yes, how much would it take to break even?

As of now, yes, as far as I know. Although I'm sure that's going to be a point of contention moving forward for the incoming schools and probably Temple too. We're still technically joining an existing conference and the BE bylaws would still be in force. We're just joining one in which three teams have decided to sell the branding and pool the exit money among themselves.

Not that they care about the relationship of this new...monstrosity, but it would help ease things just a bit if those entrance fees were either eliminated or at least significantly reduced.

Those guys are going to take the money and run. For a minute I thought they'd go with an even split to try and bring those other schools up to snuff. Guess not.

They would in a heartbeat, but it seems like none of the ACC teams are budging, they've circled the wagons.

I think it will probably be a little better for the new schools. The conference is hedging on the conference doing well in the next 6 years so they can cash in at the end of the current deal.
I don't see the point in giving the holdovers so much more money than the new members, especially when Cincinnatti and UConn have made it clear that they'll be on the first bus out of town to the ACC. Overall, this was a good financial move for the old Big East. I'm intrigued to see what name they will choose. As an East Coaster, I can't wait to see the new Big East play basketball. It's refreshing to see football finally being pushed aside.

By the way, NBC is ridiculous. If they were so desperate for sports, they could have paid but now they'll be stuck televising CAA football (which is not bad) and some captivating Ivy League football. I thought they were really going to try to invest in college sports but clearly that isn't happening.

NBC Sports Network made an offer. Problem is, ESPN had the right to match any offer. The league really wasn't even given a chance to have a bidding war, it was basically "OK we'll talk with NBC, then ESPN will match it."

I think if you're on the outside looking in, I would be marketing myself in a certain way by becoming regional. I can't imagine telling recruits "hey come here, we play at Memphis and UCONN!"

There's enough Texas schools on the outside looking in to form their own league, I would do it. There's four Florida schools on the outside looking in, I would merge with smaller schools in SEC territory (Southern Miss, UAB, LA Tech, etc.)

At least you cut travel costs, have something to recruit to, to kids in the area, and have as good a shot as any to be the best of the outside groups. Plus with a shitload of bowls in the south, those bowls would rather have a UCF in a Florida bowl than UCONN or Cincy.

I just don't see what Cincy and UCONN have in leverage, other than convenience.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
KKK coach? Oberlin has a football team?

truly101

I got grudge sucked!
USA Today just ran a piece that says we're changing our offense next season to the single wing.

Why.............................. :(

Draxal - everyone's just biding time until the courts "encourage" both sides to negotiate it down to something lower.

Thus, UConn and Cincy are still fucked. Syracuse, BC, and Wake will become fucked.

Everyone else in the ACC has a fighting chance to find a lifeboat out of there. Even Duke.

Wondering what the new name will be. I'm hoping for some form of Metro in there. Metro or Big Metro. All teams are in big metro areas except ECU and Navy if they're still coming along.

It's not in use, some of the teams played in it previously and it has some history. Better than trying to come up with a completely new one.

I wonder if it's legal to sell the naming rights to the conference like NASCAR or something. The Budweiser Eastern Conference sounds good.
