ColonoscopyGAF - Have You Put It In Yet?

Going to have one of these awkward examinations on Saturday afternoon and I’m dreading it a little bit. I’m suffering from a condition called GERD and they need to check what’s happening down under.

Members who’ve had or know somebody who has completed this procedure should leave their stories below.

Thanks in advance

i went to l'hopital in nihon a while back, said 'i'm 30 i think i need my prostate examined' and he said 'it's okay, we just do a blood test for platelets' or something... and i'm like.... "does every western dr just enjoy fingering us in the poopshoot?"

OOC: here's the secret... it is will probably take less than a minute, just grin and bear it, clenching will only make it take longer. Be clean and courteous.

I had one in my 20s, to find some internal bleeding that was going on. I was taking iron supplements which makes it really hard to clean yourself out completely. While I was asleep, the doctor had to spray the walls of my colon that were still covered. It was so uncomfortable and it woke me up mid procedure. I started to ask if they were finished and the doctor told the nurses to up my dosage. The next thing I remember, I woke up in a recovery room ready to go home. Although the procedure hurt when I woke up, the worst part was that stuff I drank the night before to clean me out. I had to make a drinking game with it just to finish it.

I have just one and think that it's actually fucking horrible procedure. Maybe not ERCP (endoscopy) horrible, but yeah.

I’ve had a colonoscopy and (camera capsule) endoscopy done, and the liquid diet prep followed by the seemingly endless liquid gushing out of the butthole were much worse than the actual procedures.

This isn’t filling me with much hope when I have to down 2 litres of the stuff.

I had a sigmoidoscopy with a doc that was a little too enthusiastic and it practically turned into a colonoscopy. I was awake for it, but for the full colonoscopy I think they usually put you to sleep.

Except for a bunch of strangers messing around with your butthole and some bloating discomfort and amazing farts, it wasn't bad.

I meant did you break wind during the examination? I don’t want to embarrass myself.
Brother, leave your pride at the door. You are either going to be asleep and not worried about anything, or you're going to be laying there while they pump water and air into your butt as water runs out your butt and a nurse is ready with towels to clean up "just in case" while it feels like you are actively soiling yourself with diarrhea. Then the nurses clean you up afterwards and wipe the excess lube off your butthole.

When you are out of the procedure what happened inside will never matter again except for deciding treatment. Those people have seen thousands of butts and heard more toots than anyone should be forced to in a lifetime.

Shit. I have to drink a litre of the stuff tomorrow and another on game day. “MoviPrep is the one I’ve been given.
I don’t remember what mine was called, but it came with a couple of flavor packets. The flavor thing made it a bit more tolerable, but it’s what happens after about an hour of drinking the stuff that really sucks. Good luck with everything.

Were the stomach movements painful and for long did they last? Also, what was your last meal going in?

I had one without sedation in march. One of the most painful things I have ever experienced (Worth noting that it's different for each person. Some feel it, some don't).

If you are given the choice, take sedation.

I've taken it in the mouth but never the anus.
I didn't go for the sedation and it sucked balls.

Hope it feels better in your ass. Good luck my friend.

The only painful part was when I woke up during the procedure, and the doctor knocked me out right away. The clean out process was more of an annoyance than painful; I basically played on my GBA the whole night so that I could stay mobile between my chair and the bathroom. I had no restrictions on the last meal, but I could not eat after I started taking the liquid; I believe I had pizza. My doctor was very cautious apparently and I was not able to eat afterwards for 48 hours. I have checked with people who had the same procedure with different doctors and they literally went out to eat on the way home. Hopefully, you can eat immediately afterwards, because you will be super hungry. Good luck with everything.

With my 46 years it's about time to have a check.
Not very keen on having something stuck up my ass, unfortunately..

My fiancee has to have this done yearly because of lynch syndrome. Check with your pharmascist and doctor if you can just mix in Crystal Light lemonade powder with pre-op shit juice you have to guzzle down. The flavoring they give with the jug is rarely enough.

They gave me fentanyl for it. Apparently I made drug jokes while looped up on drugs.

everyone said the pre liquid was the worst part, the was not my experience as I just chugged it all at once to rip the bandied off.

good luck, hope all is good down there.

Thanks man. It’s at around 4PM, so hopefully it’ll be about an hour, then followed by the recovery and I’ll back on the bus and home at around 8.

Why are so many people on this site getting cameras up their asses all in the same few months? Middle aged GAF. I'll die of ass cancer before someone gets a pipe up there, I'll wait for nano machines dammit.

Good luck! I hope they find what they’re looking for. It’s a bit more painful when they have to send an camera down the other direction.

Isn't it recommended to have these these regularly for prostate cancer checkups once you reach a certain age?

I should probably know, if so then I'd likely be in that age bracket already. And it would probably be smart to have it done then. But so far I've chickened out to even Google or think about it...

Hold onto your panties
You go to sleep and then you wake up and go home.
You forgot to mention the farting.

In the early 2000's I had a colonoscopy done as I was a teenager with extreme hypochondria. I thought I had blood coming from inside which turned out to be something non-deadly. Anyway, I spent a few days prior on a liquid diet, had to drink some awful salt water mixture which causes the squirts. I was under heavy anesthetics and some up with a huge pain in my lower intestine which was pushing on my bladder. Family was asking me to eat and drink something and I literally got up in my hospital gown and gunned toward the bathroom. I got in and let out a toilet fart which lasted somewhere around 30-45 seconds and was too tired to even get the joy out of laughing at such a thing. Mate, they're gonna pump your whole lower intestine up with air. Prepare for the fart.

I have to get them every 2 years. The worst part for me is the prep because you can't eat for close to 24 hours and you basically shit all day long and for my prep I have to do 2 bouts of drinking the prep and it flushes you out. Wiping makes you sore, so I usually just sit there for a couple hours and watch a movie on a tablet so I don't have to keep running back to the toilet and wiping and get all raw down there.

The actual procedure for me never hurt at all. You don't even know you've been probed. I've always been given propofol for deep sedation. When you wake up usually there's a little blood because they take small biopsies from your intestines and you might bleed a bit, but it goes away quickly.

I returned from the hospital with a numb mouth and sore ass (I’m sure there’s a joke there). And the reason being I was booked for a gastroscopy alongside the colonoscopy, unbeknownst to me. I agreed to having both procedures and I’m telling you that throat examination was horrifying, especially since I was awake.

The endoscope was incredibly thick and black covered in lube (another joke) and they had to force it down my throat as I struggled and tried to breath. I remember grabbing onto the attendant’s hand and damn well breaking it off. It was an unpleasant and awkward sensation, but fortunately it didn’t last long and the nurse was very supportive.

The colonoscopy was also unpleasant with the large probe going in and filling my bowel with air, the pain was excruciating, like I was being stabbed, but I got used to it and carried on without any laughing gas.

Surprisingly I didn’t fart once during the W examination and both of them took around 10-15 minutes. The bowel preparation was also overblown as many users said it was the worst bit, but it was only diarrhoea and I managed it quite easily.

Anyway thanks for the advice and stories. I’m glad to put this behind me and I hope the tests were accurate despite the short time they took to complete. Next time I’ll be asking for the smallest endoscope available to avoid being traumatised 😂.

They allowed you to be awake for both? What backwards shithole country do you live in? Also, I’m pooping right now.

I chose to be awake as I didn’t have anybody else available to pick me up at the time and was taking public transportation home. I didn’t mind the strong pain from the air during the colonoscopy, but the throat exam was very difficult and horrifying. Fortunately it only last about 30-40 seconds. I live in the UK.

I had an endoscopy before, but I was out for that too.

Next time, take an Uber or something man, don't put yourself through that while awake.

You should've asked for a flexible gastroscopy.

Saying that I've had a flexible endoscopy up the japs eye, with a local in the tip of the Johnson. Procedure was ok, if a little awkward, but felt like pissing glass for days after.

Do you really I had a camera tube put through the vein in my right arm to check my heart and though they gave me a sedative that supposed to put me to sleep I still remain awake through the procedure and could feel them poking through my own arm so it didn't hurt

Was uncomfortable for sure but fortunately it didn’t last long. The camera down the throat was not pleasant but didn’t last long thank Jesus.
