Never heard of power girl . . . is that super girl or something?

She's been around forever. If you ever watched Justice League Unlimited, Galatea was their version of her. Basically Supergirls powers with boobs.

Superboy Prime was an irredeemable character though. There's no place for him in the universe and they'd exhausted all the misdeeds he could do. He's not complex enough or vulnerable enough to make it as a recurring villain.

Yeah but it's really dumb since many people who work on comics admit they are fanboys themselves. They can't stand to have their favorite characters die so they bring them back through canon. Even if they commited fatal crimes. Maybe Superboy-Prime would be revealed to have been infected by Parallax. :lol

I guess those actions are self-negating to the companies because they can undo anything and thus any work they did do was for naught. I really liked Lo3W 1-4 because they proposed a massive change for a character but in the last pages of 5 made a cop-out by implying neither. They story was a good mirror for the Legion looking for validation in the eyes of the United Planets. They get their redemption/validation but why not Superboy-Prime?

because you're stupid, stupid-boy. oh, your eyes were glowing at the end? did your lame powers come back?

They make me more interesting. You stupid human, you can't even make your eyes glow. You're just jealous.

A) Because they decided they liked Connor as Superboy.

B) Because a villiain with the crazy-ass powers of Golden Age Superboy makes a good challenge for event comics.

C) Because Geoff Johns likes him as he is now.

The salvation of Superboy is a story that will no doubt one day be told, but as it stands now he's a cosmic-scale mass murderer. It would be pretty tough to just say "...but this time he saved the day, he's good now!"

They can say he was possessed by parallax.

Ending of LO3W= awesome. So surreal. It was hilarious to see Prime's
room stuffed with comics and collectibles as he's hunched over the computer
.

GL#44 was 'okay'. Some interesting plot points fleshed out but nothing really major. I guess after the bang that was BN #1, that's too be expected.

Picked up ASM#600...it was okay, I guess. Not sure I like Slott's writing style. But I'm willing to pick up the next issue and give it a chance.

Maybe they'll introduce some avatar of the Red Lantern Corps, to compete with Parallax and
the Predator
, and then say it possessed him.

Or, y'know, he could just be a whiny brat.

i think superboy-prime will be Conner's bizarro now. he had a black t-shirt (with death of superman "S" on it) and jeans. that will make an awesome villain for him. but he's s-still a kid, aren't you super-BOY?

Well I didn't think they would have him replace Connor in canon, but rather find his home and maybe have him on the path to being good again. Maybe he'll grow out of his anger now that he's home. But really I think the opportunity real character growth was switched out for taking a swipe at fanboys who like things a certain way.

Maybe with the ending they wrote they're going to Jason Tood him to see if he lives/dies.

I feel bad talking to you like that MisterHero...but you playing along is so much fun

Only way I want Superboy prime back is with a neck beard and a lot more weight!

I'm not going to get a neck beard and get fat because my supermetabolism is too fast and I know how to shave, in fact the sun is more responsible for my energy than paltry human food. I just make her make me grilled-cheese sandwiches to show her where her place is!

I feel sorry for you lame nerds because you get fat.

Also I'm going to college because I'll show them I'm the smartest. I have super-intelligence. Those old comics say so!

How was Hulk #600? I keep wanting to jump back into Hulk but I'm always disappointed more so than any other series maybe besides X-Men.

It was a fairly fun read, though underwhelming when read after Spidey #600.

It definitely set things up for the upcoming split though. (i.e. Pak taking over Incredible Hulk while Loeb continues adjectiveless Hulk.)
Bruce can never turn into Hulk again.

Well you didn't give it Billy Mays stamp of approval. I might check it out. I love the character they just always seem to run out of things to do with him. Spider-Man #600 was such a damn treat though.

Yeah all the DC comic book characters are laughing at me or ignoring me! They were like Marge Simpson talking about Nelson Muntz "Nelson's a troubled, lonely, sad little boy. He needs to be isolated from everyone."

Why can't DC write me as happy and have lots of friends so we can laugh at stupid people?

STOP LAUGHING!!!

Like that'll last.

Obviously. But it sets up an interesting canvas for Pak's run. Judging by the covers, it looks like
powerless Bruce will be alongside his son Skaar
. That could be fun, and in Pak I trust.

Just read Kick-Ass, #1. I love the feeling of this book. Up next in the queue is Deadpool #1-12 and then due to many recommendations the entire run of Preacher.

Anything else people recommend for any ongoing or completed series? Quitting a job can be so much fun!

Yeah Kick Ass is pretty rad apart from the fact that it doesn't come out regularly...

Obligatory Sandman recomendation.

EviLore said:
Mmm, the Preacher hardcover is a nice edition. Would have liked oversized, but considering how shitty DC can be with this stuff I'll take the decent coated paper and Starman Omnibus format. Now just 3 years or so to get all of it on the shelf...

I don't know why they can't just Omnibus/Absolute it all in one go. Even if they had to split it into two or three volumes it would be better than this. Y, too.

Would make far too much sense. So far, though, Sandman's the only long run to get an Absolute treatment, and DC doesn't seem to like Marvel Omnibus-style collections. DC doesn't like coated paper, either, which is why I was relieved Preacher wasn't on bright white uncoated paper like Y the Last Man Deluxe or newsprint (afaik) like Saga of the Swamp Thing Deluxe. Absolute editions are usually lovely, but most other DC collected editions suck, especially Vertigo trades, which nearly exclusively suck.

Marvel prints so much random garbage in beautiful heavy glossy paper and oversized hardcover format, and DC won't even do oversized for Preacher or Starman, both much more than worthy of it. Frustration.

Right on, so much stuff Marvel collects isn't worth getting but at least I can get what I want. Not to mention that they collect stuff so much quicker than DC do as well.

Got around to Top 10: The Forty-Niners. Really can't say I liked this one nearly as much as Top 10 or Smax. There are hints of Moore's storytelling greatness here, but nothing has any time to get going before the extremely tidy wrap-up, and the narrative feels a little drowsy. The tie-ins and nods to the main Top 10 books are neat, but far from a required companion. Gene Ha's different take on the art here is pretty and sets the time period apart, but isn't very expressive. Whole lot of buts, so I'm going to go with "missed opportunity."

Evilore, no love for Tom Strong or LOEG?

LOEG is there. Tom Strong is sort of borderline for me; there are some fantastic story arcs (Tom Stone, downright incredible), and some merely good ones, and then it goes all non-Moore and doesn't really tie itself together very well as a whole. So not quite right for my "strongly recommended" list without qualifiers.

Edit: Speaking of Tom Strong, I think I'll start on Tom Strong's Terrific Tales before I head to bed.

Don't tell me you haven't gotten around to reading Scalped yet.

Also, I just finished working my way through the Johns Green Lantern trades - tbh the first two years are just okay, with the exception of the Manhunters stuff. I ended up dropping the book when I initially collected the singles, most of the stories take place on Earth and aren't that interesting imo.

But the book really takes off once it shifts into space and the War of the Light becomes the main theme of the series. Sinestro Corps War is going to be somewhat impenetrable to anybody who hasn't read Crisis on Infinite Earths/Infinite Crisis, but everything after that is amazing, comic book space opera at its finest. The way Johns creates a mythology and then builds and builds on it is pretty amazing. Doesn't hurt that he gets to work with DC's A list artists either.

Wow I really liked ASM #600.

End spoiler I guess
They've been hinting at it for awhile that Mary Jane and Peter would eventually meet but I am still happy :D. I look forward to a decade of multiple women flirting with Peter (because he has so many women in his life right now. Seriously, it's like a harem anime) but him eventually picking Mary Jane, making all right with the world. I expect to die seeing them married damn it!

I have, but not very far. I can't justify buying such shitty vertigo trades, it's such a poor reproduction of Guera's art (which is so heavy on shadows and darkness), ruins the experience for me. Maybe that's anal, but so be it. I'm patient.

I actually felt it added to the grit a little, and I appreciate the fact that I can get such an amazing book for $15. And hey, the quality is still better than Japanese phonebooks. But I totally understand where you're coming from. If you've got the cash and the patience, by all means wait on it.

OMG, I just found my comic book longbox from '04-'05, the last time I seriously collected comics until now. There's some books there that I don't even remember purchasing: The OMAC Project #1-3? WTF? Marvel Knights Spider-Man #1-3? I don't even remember some of these series. I've got all 13 issues of Ultimates Vol. 1, all 12 Sleeper Season One issues, the latter part of Morrison's New X-Men run, the first 16 or so issues of Catwoman, the first issue of Ex Machina, the first two issues of Green Lantern, the first 10 issues of Ultimate Fantastic Four, the Ultimate Six Miniseries...this is crazy :lol

I used to do silver, but I figured modern bags might be better since they're more snug for the comics.

Is there one that is preferable?
