So what's the consensus on A vs X infinite for people with Tablet devices on GAF ?

Chris Sims seemed to like it.
Marvel has been terrible about communicating this, but you don't need a tablet device. It's fully viewable on Comixology's reader (and on iOS/Android smartphones, if you have one but not a tablet)

Why does everybody love Bachalo's sloppy, monochromatic "art" so much? We should demand more from our four dollar comics than a sloppy, paint-bucket colored mess.

I liked him back in the 90s but I can't stand him now. I skip any issue of W&tXM with him doing the art.

How much does it hurt the experience if you don't have a cam on your device like on iPad 1?

He's one of the only artist I'll blindly pay 4 or 5 bucks or whatever for and not be bothered by the price at all.

His stuff looks like it takes a lot of effort. It looks like he's trying so hard but the result is always a disaster to look at anyways. Also he rlyrlyrlyrlyrlyrly needs to start working with a colorist. He could probably put out an issue every month if he didn't have a bunch of unnecessary cracks and splotches all over everything he draws and "color" his own stuff.

people clammor for tumor-mans work too. but bachalos work is pleasing to the eye. like others have mentioned, ill drop money on something hes done despite the strength of the writer.

Brahs never gave me an opinion on hell yeah and danger club, so i went ahead and got both.

I thought Danger Club was OK but I don't think I'll be back for a second issue. Nice art and mostly well written, but there just wasn't enough of a point to drag me back for more. I think a book about teenage superheroes would need to be pretty spectacular to get me coming back though. What can you really do with it? In all, I think the whole Lord of the Flies in tights idea could have been put across stronger and with more oomph. I really couldn't care more about what happens to these characters as it is.

How did you find it?

You know, I didn't even realise he colored his own stuff until you pointed it out, but I did remember really enjoying the colors in this. The white in the space sequences especially was nice and restrained, where the splah with beast cutting loose was awesome with the red and the blue.

I can get that you didn't like it, but I really did it. It has this crazy kineticism to it that you don't often find. Every panel is moving, confusingly so at times, but I find it very readable and exciting to look at.

The part that bothered me the most was the entire book, including the portions that took place at the school and casino were inexplicably only red and blue. There's zero sense of shading or effort put into the coloring at all. This page is just red for no reason. This one is blue, also for no reason. Space and space suits are white and black, whatever I don't even care about that whole section of the book, but even during those panels a random panel will just be either all red or all blue! There's no consistency, no rhyme or reason to any of the coloring!

There's a panel where Warbird, KG and Genesis are all bright blue. Almost no shading. They're just blue. There's another panel where Beast is in space and inexplicable he is completely blue. Him and his space suit. Just bright blue. Almost no shading.

There's another panel with Beast and Sabretooth fighting in space, in a space station with a red background. Next panel, same scene the background is white! Two panels later back to red background! Next panel white background! Fricking HELL. I'm gonna quit reading comics.

So I'm not really up to date on anything in the Non-ultimate Marvel universe other than X-force. What's the necessary catch up reading I need to do (major arcs) to be up to speed? I stopped the big events right before World War Hulk.

Note: I read Fear Itself also.

Fuck me, that was just awful. I didn't like the #0 issue either, so I think this event is going to be a safe pass for me.

I'll have chance to read it tomorrow, but teenage superheroes is my thing though.

I got the Simonson Thor Omnibus and Chew from the local library. Chew is an amazing comic, love the storytelling. And on this weeks stuff Static Shock was an absolute mess. I don't it is possible to ruin a character or make a worse comic if tried on purpose.

Static Shock is a goddamn shame. How can you consistently fuck up black Spider-Man!? By all accounts, Bendis is making it look easy!

Poor Fantomex :(

I've only just finished up the Dark Angel Saga... (Which by the way was fucking obscene. They flopped the AoA universe, and exploited everything, and anything - though not necessarily in a completely bad way.)

But, damn. Fantomex has been such a great character so far.

Just by process of elimination, it's gotta be Fantomex

-Wolverine: LOL, he aint dying

-AoA Nightcrawler: Just became a member, Remender said he's got a plan for him that really kicks off around #28, which is after the issue someone dies in #27.

-Deadpool: He's going through a DEAD storyline right now, I think if he survives that, he'll be ok in UXF.

-Psylocke: She just got on adjectiveless X-men in June, and remender said that her and Wolverine end in a very different place at the end of this story.

So yeah, it's Fantomex.

Darkstar's revenge!

Could it not be Genesis? (Not sure what's happened to him post DAS)

He seems to be alive still...

Well spoilers a bit, but in issue 19(the epilogue), Deathlok leaves the team for awhile and Genesis is now a student at Wolverine's new school(he's that kid in above panel getting angry at people dissing Kansas).

My bet is on Jack O Lantern in Venom.

Ugh. Yeah, I just read it. That premise was paper thin. "I think the Phoenix is going to come to Earth and inhabit Hope because...um...her hair is red! And then she'll save all mutants by, I dunno...something! Who's with me?" "We all are Cyclops! Because we're mutants, and when you get down to it basically everything we do is kinda racist and condescending. Let's punch America!"

The only cool thing was Nova's new costume.

Non naturalistic colouring to emphasise impact or tension, fairly normal trick and I think it worked really well, but then again I like it when a colorist will fuck with the form a little bit.

Here's a tip though - never every ever read the Greg Rucka / Martinborough run on Detective Comics. Red and blue, the whole thing. Batman's costume is red in one panel, and then blue the next! Heavens forbid!!

Remender writes 3 books, not just X-force.

It could be a character from Venom or Secret Avengers.

I agree with Liquid! that Jack O Lantern seems like a good candidate.

Also, Remender fake kills Fantomex every other issue of UXF.

Get your areyouawizard.jpg ready.

Seriously, Jack has characteristics that it seems like Remender enjoys and enjoys writing in characters but they've been building up a big confrontation between him and Flash for a while. Also, legit killing off Fantomex is just fuckin crazy talk and there doesn't seem to be any readily expendable characters in SA, not to mention he hasn't really been working on them long enough yet to have any major fondness.

Shouldn't this be blue or red?

The other 90% of the page that panel is on is almost completely red.

e: Does Genesis have random lens flare on his tie? I guess that would be one of the good things about the art in the book.

The Curious Recoloring of 'Flex Mentallo' (Bleeding Cool)

Like to hear some thoughts on this from people who own both the issues and this new edition. That first page they cite as an example really sticks out as a change for the worse, as does that cityscape with the lamp lights; those scenes are so muted now it's ridiculous. Personally, I don't have a problem with digital recoloring so long as the new colorist understands and respects the original colorist's choice of pallette.

In other words, I prefer a light touch.

Wow!! I hadn't compared them and was really impressed with the recoloring. But seeing that, yeah. A lot of the changes are really baffling. It must have been by choice, since the green hood of that one dude still pops like fuck.

Wow, what a kick in the nuts. I don't get the aversion to color and vibrancy in most modern comics. Everything has to be muted and "realistic" all the time and that's kind of a bummer.

You know, every time I go to the shop I finger through Iron Man comics wanting to pick some up and I am constantly turned off by the muted coloring he is constantly getting in his book. Back in the day Iron Man was bright-ass, candy-apple red and to me that's the way it should be. Now 90% of the time he's brown, it's ridiculous.

By contrast look at a book like the current Justice League or Green Lantern New Guardians. There's some books that have colors that pop off the page and make them exciting to look at. All this muted color nonsense is a real turn off to me.
