I mean, he is, but, maybe it's fucked up how he's worshipped like a goddamn hero for it and everyone should follow his example because THE MAN doesn't want you to protect yourself because of them NAMBY PAMBY LIBERAL LAWS stopping you from shooting a guy multiple times because you don't like the way he looked at you

Well Rucka's run was different from Edmondson's in the way that more people were disgusted with him aside from Rachel. I do prefer not glorifying what he does, so yeah, Rucka handled things way better.

I hope the next Punisher run does go back to Castle being more of a lone wolf and knowing how messed up he is. Also, the beard needs to come back.

Just read the spoilers, it's not like the comics they're about are good :V
Least I don't think so, I could be wrong.

Waid's Strange mini was really really good IMO.

It's been this entire week. Books I read and like we're spoiled. Books I don't were. It's not about the quality of the books, it's about taking the two seconds to click spoiler. But now I am done being annoyed by it.

I like how he is apparently just now realizing that the concept behind the Punisher, a guy who straight mercs criminals, might be a little fucked up. No shit?
As I said yesterday, not knowing about the writers, the book did rub me off the wrong way:

I read a few issues of that run and while I love the Ennis and Aaron runs, which aren't exactly bleeding heart, some of the subtext made my skin crawl. So I'm totally not surprised here.
There's always been an element of parody and hyperbole in these two runs that didn't make them look like a stand-your-ground-shithead manifesto. This one takes itself seriously and really reads like hardcore conservative porn.

This is nothing new with people wanting to make anti-heroes cooler in the spotlight. Look how many people are asking for a hardcore netflix Punisher show? Lots of people to this still worship the Joker from TDK.

That's part of the reason I liked Rucka's Punisher. Wonder what happened to Rachel since then?

I think people can't resist shocky spoilers because they don't associate them with actual story spoilers. For instance, the superman and johnny storm spoilers today and the identity of rabbitman seem like things people talk about more than story developments that should be tagged. I'm split on this, i dislike spoilers because i always like to be surprised, but I can see why people jump to discuss future shenanigans. Maybe it is best to have OT threads dedicated to spoilers for the new developments like Spike made with Supes and others made with Rabbitman.

I love your posts sillymonkey

Also, thanks!

To be fair, the issue isn't liking anti-heroes, it's mistaking them for heroes.
Any Breaking Bad thread eventually illustrates that.

What does that even matter? Like, look, I get having issues with the writer of the book being a fucked up person but if I was reading the Punisher the last thing I am going to want is constant deconstruction of what a terrible person he is and how fucked up he is and how everything he does is wrong. I know that. It's probably why I'm reading the Punisher. And of course there is an element of visualizing yourself being in the same position as him, taking out feelings of frustration on criminals who get away with fucked up shit. Most street level vigilante superheroes satisfy this feeling. The fact that the Punisher kills them instead of crippling them for life is just a different level on the scale.

I kind of want that article writer to take a look at Deadly Class. Talk about a book full of worthless human beings who do fucked up shit and get glorified for it.

Err, there are repercussions (terrible ones) to everything that's going on with those kids, and I don't get a glorified feeling from it AT ALL. Like, Marcus has been pretty unlikeable since the get, but as you see his flawed ass spiral into more and more fucked up shit, and learn about his brutal childhood (which he's still going through) you do kind of cheer for him to just get the fuck out alive. Think you're reading this book utilizing the wrong lens, my dude.

There are people that like their heroes to push it to the edge. I don't really think the Punisher is on the same level as something like Breaking Bad.

You kids need to read Waid's F4 one, that goes double for you Messi, unless you already did, in which case good job, otherwise, get to it!

Hi ComicsGAF. This is my first time posting here but I've been a long time lurker. I mainly read DC books and just read the Superman spoilers for Divergence and man
Lois really revealed Clark's Identity lol. I like the idea of Lois being a Superman antagonist. I really shakes things up. Also since she reveals Superman's identity doesn't that mean she knows/revealed Wonder Woman's since she knew Clark is dating Diana Prince and the world already knows that Superman is dating Wonder Woman. I hope they explore the Lois/Wonder Woman relationship in the Truth storyline since it's going to be in the Superman/Wonder Woman book as well.
I'm really excited for a lot of the post Convergence DC titles.

I read Pax Americana last night for the 3rd time and it's not my favorite comic, but I recognize it as one of the greatest single issues of comics ever created. The paneling and art in those panels is mesmerizing. The flow of the story from panel to panel is unlike most of the stuff out there.

Hello!

Yeah the spoiler bit does seem interesting. I'm curious if its a genie out of the bottle sort of thing that will eventually be undone but why not, lets explore this a bit for now and see where it goes.

I've been thinking about doing that, as I'm going on vacation and looking for stuff to binge read. Busiek's Avengers, Priest's Black Panther, Astro City and Stray Bullets were also on that list.

Poor Wieringo. :(

You picked a review I strongly disagreed with. I think I stopped watching that when he called the art crap.
I don't think the art is crap, or that the book is as horrendous as he makes it out to be, but I definitely thought it was super mediocre. He clearly has a very passionate dislike for Jason Todd, but I can agree that I think Starfire doesn't belong in that book, and that her and Arsenal come off as really just dumb. I liked Jason in that book. Kinda wish Jason had a book all to himself, because I really liked the RHatO's Future's End one-shot.

Oh well, at least Red Hood and Arsenal is gonna be its own thing, so that's a step in the right direction.
Oh wow, someone should make a thread about this in the OT.
God no
The only way Parker was able to get a girlfriend recently was to have another man inside of him

The Comics Code really fucked things up back in the day. I brought my Joker 75 book to work today and from 1940-42, the stories were awesome. Dark, twisted, murderous Joker who I know and love. Then It went to shit until the 70's. According to this book, from 1943 to 1973, the Joker did not kill in the comics. Anyways, I just couldn't read the stories from that time. Too corny, I skipped all the way to the 70s.

I didn't. Is she hulk in it?

I am in the cinema. Waiting for Ultron to start. Forever alone :(

Wow shit at a new Dark Knight Returns with Azzarello and Miller

To wrap the panel, Corson called onto stage writer Brian Azzarello to a round of applause. The teased that three letters would be coming up in at DC: "DK3" -- then confirming that "Dark Knight Returns 3" is in the works.

"For the past six months, I've been working with Frank Miller to bring the next chapter in the 'Dark Knight' to light. It's been humbling. I've learned a lot, and I call him sensei. It's a really, really big project," the writer said.
