If I've never read a Daredevil comic but I'd like to read some before watching the TV show, and I have Marvel Unlimited, what should I check out? I have a limited series called The Man Without Fear marked to read but that's it. Is there a specific run that influences the TV show or does it draw from lots of stuff?
Its the Man Without Fear ;)
You should also look in the other things Frank Miller wrote on Daredevil.

You want Frank Miller's Daredevil material. That's Daredevil #158-191 (he just did the art up to #166, started writing afterwards), the Born Again storyline (#226-233) and The Man Without Fear (although I consider that the weakest of Miller's Daredevil).

Ooof. I'm working too much guys...
These 60 hour weeks are not healthy.

I even had to *gasp* skip a few pages of ComicsGAF that I missed and just read the most recent page or two.

Good lord that last page in Nameless #3. Damn!

Also read Descender #2 and only 2 issues in and I am in love with this book.

Fucks yeah! I was hesitant about another Lemire space-book after Trillium, but Descender is entirely lovable and great so far.

I still need to read my Nameless ish.

Yes and Yes.
I actually enjoyed Trillium for the most part,, read the first 3-4 issues as they came out,, then just collected them and read the whole run.

Felt good to lay in bed this morning and just read some comics again. I have 3 more issues to read and I'm caught up with my backlog. Try to read them at work today and watch Daredevil tonight.

I think that could have ultimately been my issue with it. I picked up the first 4 but the story just wasn't clicking with me, and I'd usually forget what happened in the previous month's issue. I'll probably pick up the trade after Descender wraps up, just because I do really like Lemire.

If you weren't planning on watching Daredevil, you should make plans to watch Daredevil. It's exactly what you would want it to be.

It's a deliberate rejection of the blatant cynicism of the other Netflix series and a reconstruction of the good-guy street level superhero?

I keep seeing that people are recommending Frank Miller's Daredevil stuff but that is so dated today - ground breaking for its time, sure.

Bendis + Maleev's Daredevil run is the height of the character and of their creative careers. It comes in 3 nice ultimate collection tradepaper backs. Some of the greatest comics of all time and the foundation of modern Marvel.

Please, you have to show me. I'll be on steam later. My jealousy knows no bounds.

I'll try to buy a better frame this time. I'm still going to buy it at Walmart though.
:lol

Edit: AND Ultron came. Daredevil Day feels like a legit holiday to me.

Starman #31 - #33:
A decent end to the Dr. Pip arc and Copperhead was fun. The Black Pirates back story was rather interesting. Solomon Grundy. :(

And then suddenly, Batman. The Starman/Batman dynamic is hilarious.

CBR has an interview up with DiDio and Len Wein about 70s comics, Kirby, and Convergence/events.
It's a pretty solid read, and I love this anecdote from Wein about he and Marv Wolfman meeting/hanging around Kirby.

Oh God, yes. I knew Jack from the time that I was 12 or 13 years-old. He lived in the neighborhood next to my neighborhood. I found out through various machinations the whys and wherefores and Marv Wolfman and I, gullible little children that we were, wandered over to Jack's house by bike one Saturday morning, introduced ourselves, knocked on the door, and said, "Hi, we're big fans of Jack. We just wanted to come by and say, 'Hello.'" And Roz [Rosalind] Kirby being the wonderful über-mama she was, invited us in for milk and cookies and it became a ritual. Many of our Saturday afternoons were spent just sitting over at Jack's house just watching him draw. [Laughs]

I might get my codes off eBay for a $1, but I always buy front row seats to the concert.

Edit:

Just read Kurt Busiek's introduction to Rage of Ultron before I head out for a bit. That man just got me hyped for this book.

On the latest Amazing Spider-Talk, they say they don't know where JJJ Sr. gets all of his money from. IIRC, he's meant to be a successful novelist or something, right? Writing under a pseudonym, I think.

So is Punisher ending? Sorry, I don't follow comic news much so let me know if I should I go back and read this thread? Punisher is one of the few comics I pull these days.

Also does anyone read both Punisher and Black Widow? Do they tie together somehow other than that one moment in issue 9 or 10? I'm wondering if I should try to read the Black Widow series too when it comes out in trade.

Just caught up with Deadpool #45 and the latest Ultimate Spiderman.
I'm still not quite sure what caused Deadpool
and his friends to die. Was it the convergence thing?
Still, what an awesome issue. It was the perfect Deadpool show.
Miles' story seemed a bit rushed in this last issue, and I'm assuming it's because of Secret Wars. I mean, that's fine and dandy, but it just didn't feel right at times. Still, the art was great, the characters did their jam, and the ending was one hell of a way to foreshadow.
I'm really excited to see what Secret Wars will bring.
