A man after my own heart. Yeah, Ivar is my favorite at the moment, but Bloodshot Reborn is really good; I think the latest issue was my favorite work by Lemire. Imperium is good, but not as good as Harbinger has been. I think Ninjak has been solid so far, but next issue with Raul Allen is gonna be killer.
D.Gray-man used to be a pretty popular series a few years back before it went on hiatus. Initially follows that shonen format for a time, but what really set it apart at the start is the atmosphere. The character designs are Tim Burton-esque and the art style is pretty in line with that, as well; quality-wise, the art definitely gets better with time as the author gets more comfortable with the drawing, but she has some beautiful and memorable designs throughout. One complaint I do have is that she occasionally skips frames or close-quarters attacks during battles are messy and hard to follow; she gets better at this as well, but it's a minor gripe.
Story-wise, what I love is that it feels much higher stakes than any of the other shonen I've ever read - save maybe Hunter x Hunter in a particular arc. The main characters are very much fighting a losing war and the author makes that known in subtle ways. Also, as it starts moving away from the typical shonen my team vs your team format, it just starts getting crazier and darker. The theme of the story is religion and I think the author does some very interesting things with that theme, especially how it's ended up shaping each of the main characters in different ways.
Also, I'm not sure where you stand on it, but the author barely does any fan-servicey, moe-type shit.
